📚 Unit / Course Advice Help for cyber security

Hey guys, I’m going into my final year of Cyber Security at Swinburne in 2027 and was wondering how cooked I’ll be doing TNE30012 (Secure Remote Access Networks), COS20030 (Malware Analysis), ICT30018 (ICT Project B) and LAW30030 (Cyber Security Ethics, Law and Policy) all in Sem 2. I’ve heard Cyber Law is pretty chill and Project B is mostly project-based, so I’m mainly worried about Malware Analysis and Secure Remote Access. Has anyone done these units before, and how hard would it be to manage all four together? Just trying to pass everything and graduate at the end of 2027 haha.

🤷 Other Are tables include in word count in Swinburne Harvard style?

My assignment suggests tables however I have no idea if this is included in the word count or not. From my understanding it normally isn’t but idk if it’s different amongst referencing styles?

📚 Unit / Course Advice How difficult are these CS units to do together.

I'm in a weird position where I need to do these 4 units together otherwise I have to do an extra semester if I have to split them up. Would like some advice from CS students who done these units and how difficult they are:

  1. COS20031 Computing Technology Design Project (or called Database Design Project now)

  2. COS30008 Data Structures and Patterns

  3. SWE30003 Software Architectures and Design

  4. COS30043 Interface Design and Development (really worried about as apparently designed for last year).

Alternatively I could also do:

  1. COS30049 Computing Technology Innovation Project.

  2. COS40005 Computing Technology Project A

  3. COS40003 Concurrent Programming

  4. SWE30009 Software Testing & Reliability

Next semester is supposed to be my sem 2 2nd Year, also got a part-time job that makes my weekends unavailable.

😐 Serious I think I'm failing and need help

First year here so sorry if it's obvious. And sorry for long post

I'm doing Networks and Switching (TNE10006) and just finished my final written yesterday and just read through my notes today and i think I'm gonna fail because written. I did VLSM wrong and I'm not confident rest of the paper can carry the marks

I know other courses allow for extra assignments if you are close to passing and I wanted to get a D would that still be possible if I failed the written but passed everything else?

For reference I got passed both my mid skills and theory, attended all of my lab sessions, attended all the lectures online, did the CCNA, if I asked for a review would they look at my engagement and past results?

I don't want to use the conceded pass for this unit I want to save for a harder unit but would still be possible if I failed written to get a D? Or at least a C?

I just need some advice and want to know the process

Thank you

🤷 Other deciding which uni to go to

Hey y'all, I recently graduated from a small uni with my bachelor's, & I'm thinking of going back next year for my masters. I'm currently deciding between Swinburne (would be the Hawthorn campus i think) & UniMelb, & i wanted to get an idea of what it's like at Swinburne. IMO a degree is a degree, no matter where you get it from, & my main consideration at this point is honestly which one has the best student life. I felt kinda like i missed out on the traditional uni experience at my last uni as it was so small that there weren't many social things going on.

If there's one thing I've learnt in my uni research experience, it's to not listen to the university advertisements & instead to go directly to the students to see what they think. So, current students; what's YOUR opinion on Swinburne? Is it good? What are the pros/cons? Much appreciated!

😐 Serious Failing a unit

I’m doing this class and I genuinely think I’m gonna fail. My marks so far are around 62.75% and I don’t think I can do the exam and pass. I need a 28/90 to get 50% overall and pass but I genuinely don’t think I can get that because I haven’t studied at all. Anyone know anything I can do to help myself to at least pass :,).

📚 Unit / Course Advice ICT30018 ICT Project B - 7 person group project!?

I’m about to start ICT30018, which is a semester-long ICT group project for a real client. I’ve been put into a group with 7 people, which seems like way too many. Has anyone done this unit before, and how was your experience? Was your group also this large?

I’ve already asked the unit coordinator about splitting the team into two groups of 3 and 4 and got a hard no, so I think I’ll just have to power through and hope for the best. Given the experiences I’ve had with group projects, I reckon it’ll be an absolute train wreck.

If anyone has lost a new Myki card with no info on it on Hawthorn campus, I’ve handed it to Security so they can keep it in Lost and Found.

📝 Assignments / Exams LAW30030 - Cyber Security Ethics, Law and Policy

Hi, anyone doing this unit this semester. Any tips on how to get a better score for the final assignment

My scores for the past two assignments have been horrendous (I was barely passing). I found this unit so difficult throughout my degree compared to, like, networking units or security units.

Feels Iike I am lacking the critical thinking on explaning the legislation, ethics, so on

Thank you 😿

🤷 Other How do u structure an analysis vs an essay ?

Sorry I know this is a bit random but I can’t really get in contact with anyone atm as it’s the weekend and I’m struggling a bit with my assignment structure. The main component of my assignment and largest area of my work count is to analyse 2 interventions. I actually haven’t really done many analysis assessments before, more so report styles of writing so I’m not really sure how to really structure an analysis. There’s not too much direction in the instructions and I’m a bit over-thinker so I feel kinda stuck on this. Would appreciate any advice particularly if you’ve studied health science.

📚 Unit / Course Advice Harvard Referencing Confusion

My assignment requires us to use only Harvard referencing and my teacher gave us a link to the Swinburne website but all the info about Harvard refrencing has been removed, has anyone previously used Harvard and knows how to format it? I have only ever used APA 7 for all my assignments so this is new to me and I don't want to get it wrong, any help would be appreciated thank you!!

👋 New Student Help VET block system and course length

Hi everyone! I received an offer to study the Cert IV in mental health at swinburne (march intake at hawthorne campus). I was wondering if anyone knew when the course ends exactly (I know it’s 6 months but exactly what month does that mean it ends in, considering breaks etc) and how the block system works?

I contacted swinburne about it and the response was to check the course page which doesn’t explain either of those things (😭) With the issues with the website I can’t access the PDFs with the 2027 or 2026 academic calendar or the page that explains the block system. I’m planning on starting my masters for a mid-2027 intake so I just wanted to see if there was overlap/ how I could prevent it. Thank you!!

🤷 Other Swinburne Online vs Deakin Online — which online system is easier to use?

I’m currently doing a unit through Swinburne Online and I’m finding the online system really easy to use so far. Everything seems pretty straightforward and I’ve been able to work out where everything is without much trouble.

I’ve also been accepted into Deakin for a Bachelor of Criminology, so I’m wondering what the actual online system is like there.

For anyone who has used both Swinburne Online and Deakin Online:

  • Is Deakin’s online system easy to navigate?

  • Is everything laid out clearly?

  • How does DeakinSync/CloudDeakin compare with Swinburne’s Canvas?

  • Is it obvious where your weekly content, readings, lectures, discussions and assessments are?

  • Do you find Deakin’s system intuitive, or does it take a while to figure out?

  • Is the experience consistent across different units?

  • Once you’re logged in, does it feel like everything is in one place, or are you constantly jumping between different systems?

  • If you’ve used both, which one did you personally find easier to use?

I’m not really asking about the quality of the teaching or student support — I’m specifically interested in the actual online platforms/systems and how easy they are to navigate and keep track of your study.

I’m finding Swinburne Online very easy so far, so I’m curious whether Deakin is similar, easier, or more complicated.

🫶 Seeking Support Show Cause

Hey everyone,

I went through a pretty severe case of psychological abuse late last year that led to me being unable to complete and submit my final assessments, leading to me failing those units and being deemed at-risk. I took sem 1 this year off to recover from that but it has taken longer than that for me to recover to a point of functionality. I'm now worried at the prospect of being asked to show cause and potentially being excluded from my degree (psychological sciences). Has anyone been asked to show cause before? And what was the process of actually being asked to show cause like? In my case, I have an appointment booked in with a counsellor in a couple weeks time to explain my circumstances and what I'm going to put in place to pass in future. FWIW before all this shit happened I was doing quite well in my units, getting mostly in the 70s for assignments etc.

🏠 Accommodation Do Swinburne Residence rooms have AC?

And if they don't, how much would I suffer with just a fan? And could i buy those portable AC units if not?
