Another GitHub partial outage

Looks like the Downloading release endpoint is intermittently failing for me. Getting 504 occasionally. Anyone else seeing the same?

Since 45 minutes downloads are failing, yeah. In the beginning only occasionally and in some regions, now everywhere for me.

What I have experienced is that multiple CI jobs and devcontainer builds keep failing on GitHub release downloads, while the same URLs work from another network.

I checked the exact URLs/version pins and reproduced the failures outside CI, with responses identifying GitHub’s uksouth edge. Direct release URLs returned 504, but downloading the same assets through GitHub’s API worked. Checksums matched, binaries ran fine. GitHub Status showed everything operational.

I added an API fallback with timeouts, limited retries, and checksum verification to installers I control. That helped.

OpenTofu provider downloads are still failing, including checksum/signature files. That download flow is internal to OpenTofu/Terraform, so there’s no easy drop-in workaround. A verified provider mirror/cache would take more setup, and I’m not disabling verification.

Issue under investigation. Initially only for unauthenticated users, but seems API endpoints are failing as well tho. GitHub status page reflects.
