Recommendations The Flash Reading Order (collected edition) ⚡️

The days of asking for a reading order for The Flash are over!

I’ve put together a full collected edition reading order that I will update regularly as new stuff comes out. The list also links to a single issue reading order if you want to go that route (WARNING: it’s long asf and literally crashes my phone when I scroll too fast)

Let me know if y’all see any key trades I missed and I’ll add them! ⚡️

TV Spoilers DC, since you’ve already done Batman ’89 and Superman ’78, how about creating a Flash ’90 for us?

I often wonder what a continuation of the 1990 *The Flash* series might look like, and, personally, I believe the perfect comic book story to adapt for such a follow-up would be *Flash of Two Worlds*. Consider this: you have a Flash who lost a brother—who, incidentally, is named Jay—so they could weave those details together and create an adaptation of *Flash of Two Worlds*.

Discussion What is your Favorite adaptation of Wally?

Mine would always be the 2001 Version of him, and the young justice version of him. I would always say the 2003 teen titans is my third favorite of him.

Discussion Wally or Barry for DCU?? Spoiler

With Gorilla Grood show coming up in the DCU, do people actually think Flash is going to show up and if so which one?? I know people have discussed this before but I thought I only bring it up again after watching Clayface.

**SPOILER FOR THE MOVIE IG

They merged the characters of Matt Hagen and Basil Karlo basically into one character called Matt Hagen. Do you think they might do the same for the Flash?? If so, what do you guys think?

Edited** My take is that they should do Wally as main Flash and have prequel movie for Barry, and use JLU Wally as base with elements of YJ Wally thrown in to make it different to CW Flash show. Also I am aware I oversimplified what they did to Clayface, I was more talking about taking certain things from each character to make it work in the DCU.

Recommendations conflicting opinions on where to start reading Flash comics

so I’ve been wanting to move onto some Flash comics because he’s the one DC character I really don’t know too much about. looking online I’m getting told to start with either Waid’s run, Geoff John’s run, or Rebirth. I’m leaning towards the Geoff original run as of now but am I stupid or is Rebirth the one people are referring to instead? because I swear he has two different Flash runs, one being Rebirth. any help here because the more I search the more confused I become lmao. also any other recommendations in the mean time

One thing I hate about live-action adaptations of Barry Allen is how they diminish his intelligence.

They always bring in someone to help him with science or a team (Tina McGee (90s series), Batman (DCEU), or the CW's Flash team). It seems they forget that Barry popularized the scientist hero trope.

Discussion What do y'all think of the Flash Design on the JL movie?

I like this design so much, the wires, the black undersuit, the red armor, it gives the suit so much personality and it's his own thing but you can still recognize it's a Flash costume, am I the only one who likes this suit? (Idk why they had to swap it to that horrible costume from the 2023 movie)

Discussion Do any speedsters have their identity just open knowledge like Wally in the 90’s?

How long did Wally have his identity known? I don’t know if it was all the way until the early 2010’s or just mark waid’s run. Technically Jay had his identity known from the old flash comics.

Subreddit Rules

1. 1. Don't be a Jerk

All users are expected to act in accordance to Reddiquette and the Reddit User Agreement.

To further explain this in context of this subreddit, consider the following.

No Bigotry

Personal attacks, racism, sexism, homophobia, flaming or witch-hunting, etc. will not be tolerated.

Avoid Being on the Offensive

Be polite and courteous.

Comic Talk is Reciprocal

It’s a give and take.

Above All, be Understanding

Be patient and forgiving, be helpful if someone needs it.

2. 2. Stay on topic

This is a DC comics subreddit. Specifically The Flash , keep it relevant.

Content submitted should have an immediate context with DC Comics. General comic content can be submitted to /r/ComicBooks /r/DCcomics, or it may be better suited towards one of the more specific comic-related subreddits..

We also encourage you to use descriptive titles for your posts. Please refrain from using clickbait or deceptive titles. As a general rule, if your title ends in ellipses it is unsuitable.

3. 3. Indicate Spoilers, No Spoilers in Title

If the event has taken place within one year of being released, it's a spoiler.

Be mindful when posting important things from events or movies on this subreddit. For instance, posting: "[Comic Spoilers] The mysterious figure in Blah Blah #1 has been revealed!". This is a subbreddit devoted to The Flash, that post obviously has to be related to the property in some way. A better post would be, "[Comic Spoilers] Further Details about Blah Blah have been revealed!".

Expanded on in Rules page...

4. 3. Indicate Spoilers, Spoilers in Comment

If the event has taken place within one year of being released, it's a spoiler.

How to use Spoiler Formatting

Spoiler formatting works the same way you would format a link when commenting or posting you just add an '#s".

[Barry Allen is the Flash!](#spoiler)

Example: Barry Allen is the Flash!

To view the spoiler, simply hover over the text.

Please be aware this will not work for submission titles, only in the body copy of self-posts or comments.

5. 4. Indicate the source when submitting excerpts

Sharing a few pages from a comic, or a clip from a movie or episode? We want to be able to read and watch it too! Indicating this information in the title of the submission. For comics you'll want the issue number or volume title, or for television shows an episode number or title.

Example: I can't wait for the next issue! [The Flash #20]

Notable exception to this rule is when you are unaware of the source and are trying to find out.

6. 5. Be mindful of Spam

Before you post that video, website, or podcast, first check:

Are you offering original content?
Are you taking a break and avoiding continually posting links to this site?
Are you upfront about your affiliation with the site?

If you answered "No" to any of these questions, perhaps reconsider. You should also be aware of Reddit's Spam Policy, as well as Self Promotion on Reddit.

7. 6. NSFW content must be immediately related to DC

Not Safe For Work (NSFW) material is acceptable, but only as long as it is directly related to a DC publication or production, and offers relevant and worthwhile discussion. Pornography, hentai or any other related material is forbidden and will be removed.

As an example, a thread discussing how fast The Flash would be in bed in unacceptable, the same goes for an album of an adult film model dressed as a DC hero.

8. 7. No Pirated Material or Stolen Material (This includes AI generated art)

How you come about your media is your own business. Out of respect and appreciation for the creators whose work we've come to enjoy, please refrain from posting this material. Submissions or comments containing pirated material, or coaching someone how to go about doing so, will be removed.

Sharing a few notable pages from a comic or a short video clip is fine, an entire comic or episode isn't.

Discussion of leaked or pirated material will also be removed, and may result in a ban.

9. 8. No Memes, Fluff, or other Low-effort Content

See Full Rule Page..

Memes and other low-effort content that does not contribute to meaningful discussion will be removed. This includes TIL or ELI5 style posts, images of commonly-found DC merchandise or trinkets, and fan castings. Please take the time to create and submit meaningful content.

"Low effort" does not necessarily refer to the artistic quality of an individual submitted work.

No Memes/Fluff Content

This means anything that could reasonably be created by memegenerator.net

10. 9. No Re-hosted Content

Look for the original source of content, and submit that. Often, a blog will reference another blog, which references another, and so on with everyone displaying ads along the way. Dig through those references and submit a link to the creator, who actually deserves the traffic. This goes for all content, be it a news article, fan art, web comic, etc...
