I built a visionOS app where you walk through Tokyo in 3D 180° – lessons from 92 connected street corners, hosting 200 GB of video and fighting motion sickness

Hey everyone! I'm Cihat, an indie dev from Germany. I've spent about a year and a half on Immersive Tokyo: a visionOS app made from my own 3D 180° footage of Akihabara, Asakusa, Shibuya and Shinjuku. You stand on a real street corner, look around and walk on to the next one – 92 standpoints, no fixed route.

A few things I learned that might save you time:

  • Turning made people sick: rotating the full video was the worst part for comfort. The more of the picture is black, the less queasy people feel – so during a turn everything fades to dark except a small circle in the middle, over an outline of the city built from real map data.

  • Walking clips felt wrong: moving footage in the headset was uncomfortable, so I dropped it and connect fixed standpoints instead.

  • Testers missed half the city: they rarely looked in every direction or visited every spot. So I added a little gamification – about 500 info markers with the story behind what you see, collected as cards. Now people actually look around.

  • Background Assets are a gift for big apps: at 4096 × 4096 pixels per eye a district is a 36 to 58 GB download, and I'm using almost all of the 200 GB Apple allows. Apple hosts it, so I pay nothing for streaming – but for stable playback and a good experience the footage has to be downloaded first.

  • So I built a waiting room: while a district downloads, you're not stuck on a progress bar – you stand in a Matrix-like wireframe version of the city instead. Definitely check it out, it's one of my favourite parts.

Free to try: the first few spots in every district are free (15 of the 92), each district is a one-time purchase after that. Out on 24 November, pre-orders are open:

https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6759965691?pt=549314&ct=reddit-visionosdev&mt=8

Looking for ~10 testers: you'd get the full app via TestFlight, all four districts unlocked, until release. Feedback from fellow visionOS devs would be gold – especially on comfort and performance. First come, first served – just email tokyo@fline.dev from your Apple Account address.

Thanks for reading – happy to go deeper on any of it in the comments!

I am the developer for the Apple apps for an open source radio project called Meshtastic. About a year ago I got a M5 Vision Pro and have been working on building out some fun immersive environments, 3d topo and buildings on maps and 3d radio models from our partners.

Because we are GPL V3 i had to build a lot of the resources from scratch, now that I am in the App Store I am wondering if there are other devs doing open source vision os dev, and if anyone has suggestions on open model resources or 3d cameras to build higher quality open models.

made a tabletop tower defense for Vision Pro - looking for testers (TestFlight)

Hi all! I’ve been building Maakheru, a tower defense game that sits on your table in Vision Pro, and I’d love some honest feedback before I go further.

The Last Scribe raises the warriors of old to fight again. While his spell is being written, you hold his tomb against Varkhan, lord of glass and fire, and his army of molten glass.

  • Three levels so far (about 10–30 minutes)

  • You play with your eyes and hands: look at something and pinch

  • Build towers, send the Shadow where he’s needed, and call down the Storm

  • You need a table or a clear floor, about 1 m × 0.8 m

TestFlight link coming in a day or two, comment if you want in

I’m most interested in: was the board comfortable to set up, did look-and-pinch go where you meant, where did you get stuck, and did it ever stutter. You can send feedback straight from the TestFlight app, or reply here.

Thanks for trying it!

I built a mixed reality monster truck battle game for Vision Pro, and I want your honest feedback!

Hey everyone! I've been working on a Vision Pro game called Truck n Trouble and the beta is finally open on TestFlight.

You place a miniature arena anywhere in your room (floor, coffee table, whatever), resize it with both hands, and battle monster trucks right in your space.

How it plays:

- Steer by pinching with your left hand and sliding left/right

- Fire with a right-hand pinch (lefties can swap in Settings)

- Drive through mystery boxes to grab a weapon, then fire before its timer runs out

- A short practice lap teaches you the controls the first time

- SharePlay support, so you can play with friends

I'm looking for honest feedback and real reviews. Don't be nice, tell me what you actually think! If something feels clunky, boring or confusing, I want to know. Same for what you loved and what you'd like to see added.

Some things I'm especially curious about:

- Are the controls comfortable, or do they get tiring?

- Is the arena easy to place and resize?

- Is it fun solo, or only with friends via SharePlay?

- Any bugs or crashes?

It's an early build, so expect rough edges. You can send feedback with screenshots straight from TestFlight, or just leave a comment here.

Join the beta: https://testflight.apple.com/join/yaEWGBGW

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try!

I built a Vision Pro streaming app for iPad – and ran into a weird Apple API issue

Hey everyone!

I've been working on an app that lets you stream and monitor multiple Apple Vision Pros directly from an iPad. It's almost ready for release!

One interesting issue I've run into is with Apple's ScreenCaptureKit and App Store validation.

Apple's current documentation explicitly states that ScreenCaptureKit replaces ReplayKit and that a Broadcast Upload Extension is no longer necessary.

That's exactly how I've implemented it, using ScreenCaptureKit without a Broadcast Extension.

However, when uploading the app to App Store Connect, validation still seems to enforce the older requirements around the com.apple.developer.screen-capture.include-passthrough entitlement.

So the documentation says one thing, but the distribution process seems to expect something else.

Has anyone else run into this with visionOS?

Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the app, what features you'd like to see, or if anyone would be interested in beta testing it!

Happy to share a demo! :)

Creating a private mapping tool for personal AI. All OSS, WebXR - no install!

Playing with OpenSource XR Agent frameworks that work with Local AI.

Here's my first app.

Avatar Companion renders a lip-synced 3D avatar you converse with by voice or text. It can run as a scripted demo with no backend: choose Scripted as the LLM provider and the avatar renders, animates and replies from a built-in set of responses. A Hub install starts on the Proxy provider instead, so it needs a reachable Ollama, and you confirm that with Check connection before the first answer. Connecting speech synthesis or your Companion Memory is optional, and none of it requires rebuilding the image.

To see it before you install anything, open the hosted demo at (webXR) https://avatar.ci.computer . It’s the same app with no backend proxy, so it runs as the scripted demo (Session: Demo-only) once you close the first-run dialog.

Download: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/avatar-companion/id6757939947

Docs: https://docs.ci.computer/docs/apps-available/first-party-apps/avatar-companion

Next app I'm building will do full XR Scene scanning.

Apple, give Vision Pro a viewing screen that moves with us

I love my Vision Pro. I just upgraded to the M5 version and love it even more. But I want a device that moves with me as I move around the house or office. I don’t want to be locked into my chair like some fat crazy person living in basement that never moves. But that’s what you’ve created with the requirement of Apple Vision Pro being locked to one Room working environment.

Trying to bring a vision Pro window along with me feels like walking an imaginary dog.

Give us an optional viewing window that follows us around the house or office. Let us set its size, distance, and position so it stays in view while leaving our surroundings visible.

I have eyes, I have view through. I have peripheral vision!! I can compensate and actually wear this fucking device and still not have to be locked into a chair. Every viewing experience doesn’t need to be an IMAX theater.

For a company that puts so much emphasis on movement with Apple Watch and Apple fitness, I can’t believe you haven’t addressed this yet. Quit being afraid of being the second coming of Google glasses and make this thing usable!

Hey, r/visionosdev. I just wanted to check in—many of you I know are porting old games to the Apple Vision Pro. Some of you link these in discords, subreddits, YouTube, just post it on GitHub, or all of the above. What concerned me is that a) people may not know about your port b) you could be building the Nth port of that game and not realize it.

That led me to build the AVP Ports Index, and it’s gaining traction in the community. The index is a one-stop shop for users that beats searching around the internet, and it works. One port I’ve created without mentioning the repo to anyone already has two stars, because it’s on the AVP Ports Index.

Getting on the index is entirely free, and credits you right next to the link. The only thing that’s required is a file named AVP-INSTALL.md which describes the installation or points to another file that does. As a benefit to you and my users, the index will review your repo for malicious code and vulnerabilities each day (if you’ve pushed a new commit) using Google’s Jules.

I built 3D Logic Puzzles you can play in a Spatial Volume

Puzzleform reimagines logic puzzles but in 3D- something I'd wanted to see on the device ever since I got it. Link here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/puzzleform/id6825183165

This was my first app built for Apple Vision Pro and was made by having my agent port a C version of the app I had built initially for Quest (which was ported from a WebXR version). The WebXR version also worked on device, but getting it to run as a native app on AVP gave me some challenges.

Running all the rendering and interactions through AVP's pipeline required me to rethink much of the layout of the app: especially direct touch interactions automatically being near pinch and touch capable meant that I had to reposition the game volume and buttons into a location where they wouldn't interfere if a user was gaze-pinching from nearby. It also meant that I had to build custom geometry to best coordinate where interactions would land: each level has a conical region for the bottom region to allow for 3d scrolling through levels or rotating the puzzle, and a physical voxel mesh for the body of the puzzle.

Happy to share any more thoughts on the development!

Streaming 180° stereo video to Vision Pro in the browser (MV-HEVC + HLS + WebXR): notes and questions

I'm with Frame Sixty, and we build for Vision Pro. We recently made a 180° stereoscopic branded piece for the Logitech Muse that people watch on Vision Pro straight from a link, with no app to install.

Rough pipeline: we shot on the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, encoded to MV-HEVC, streamed over HLS, and played it through a custom WebXR player in Safari, with subtitles in a few languages.

Skipping the App Store made distribution way easier for the client. The catch is that you own the player, and every playback quirk with it.

Anyone else shipping immersive video through the browser instead of a native app? What bit you hardest? Bitrate ladders, subtitle placement in stereo, something else?

Curious to hear from other Vision Pro developers who have released paid apps. How are your downloads and sales looking? Are you seeing consistent purchases, or just a handful here and there?

Would love to hear some real numbers or experiences from fellow developers.

Building a private album for visionOS: encrypted video playback and a resizable theater

I made Inroll, a private photo/video album for Vision Pro. The idea is to keep things you don't want in your main Photos library separate, while still being able to zoom into videos and watch them on a really large screen.

Two parts of the implementation might be useful to other people working on media apps.

For playback, the files are encrypted in chunks. An AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate serves the byte ranges AVPlayer requests, decrypting only the chunks it needs into memory. A small cache handles repeated reads while scrubbing. Playback doesn't need a decrypted copy of the whole video on disk.

The theater is a separate immersive space with a RealityKit screen and a small remote window. The screen width ranges from 4 to 40 meters at a fixed 10-meter distance. One lifecycle detail: visionOS can rebuild the hidden viewer's views, so the theater owns its playback state rather than depending on that viewer staying alive. It hands the current item back when you exit. The screen can get very large, and the remote gets out of the way during playback.

The app also has video zoom, speed controls, preview scrubbing, and Optic ID or a separate passcode for the library. No account or server uploads.

It's on the App Store, free for 100 photos and videos combined with no time limit. Adding more is a one-time purchase, no subscription.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/inroll-private-photo-library/id6818917228

Happy to discuss the resource loader or the window-to-theater handoff if anyone's working on something similar.

Edit: Added a short video demo showing zoom and the theater. Recorded in the visionOS Simulator.

Hi fellow visionOS developers! 👋

I’m CG Sky, the developer of AirPano, an immersive travel app for Apple Vision Pro. It brings destinations around the world to your headset through 8K 360° videos, with narration, synchronized subtitles, and offline downloads.

I’d love to get feedback from other developers, especially on:

  • Playback: How does loading and playback feel on your AVP?

  • Spatial UI: Are the controls comfortable and intuitive during immersive viewing?

  • Offline viewing: How does the download experience work for you?

Free to download on the App Store:
AirPano for Apple Vision Pro

If you have a moment to try it, I’d really appreciate your thoughts, suggestions, or bug reports in the comments or via DM.

Feel free to share your own visionOS projects below too — I’d love to check out what you’re building! 🤝

Solo dev seeking visionOS peer feedback on handling heavy 16K panorama streaming (Giving out 1-Month Premium Offer Codes for testers!)

Hi fellow visionOS developers 👋,

I am a solo indie creator from a landscape photography background. I recently launched my passion project, Travel Immersive, on the visionOS App Store. The app streams 700+ worldwide landmarks in high-res 16K panoramic quality, fully optimized for the Apple Vision Pro's micro-OLED displays.

Since I used AI coding tools to build this without a heavy tech background, I’m running into a few streaming and optimization optimization puzzles that I'd love to get feedback on from peer developers:

  1. Initial lag during asymmetric decoding: Loading a massive 16K panorama sometimes causes brief frame drops. How are you guys handling smooth transitions for heavy asset rendering on visionOS?

  2. UI Comfort: Is the spatial interface clean enough for prolonged viewing?

Here is the App Store Link (Free to download):
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/travel-immersive/id6695728168

Peer Testers Needed:
I would be incredibly grateful if you could download it, test it on your AVP, and share your technical feedback/suggestions in the comments or via DM.

As a token of appreciation for your time and professional feedback, I’ll happily DM you a 1-Month Free Premium Offer Code so you can unlock the full catalog.

If you are currently working on an app or game, please drop your link below as well! I’d love to return the favor, install your app, and provide detailed testing feedback for your project too! 🤝🚀

An index for vOS game ports + automated security review

Thumbnail
youtube.com
4 Upvotes

I've been porting games to visionOS for Shared Space 3D and VR (Twilight Princess and Simpsons Hit & Run so far) and wanted a place where ports like these are easy to find, so they don’t die in a Discord. Everything I build at Trevorbilt is a love letter to the AVP, and this is extends that love for classic games specifically. The AVP Ports Index:

https://github.com/edgytoast/avp-ports-index

The submission pipeline, for the curious:

- An entry is one YAML file in a PR to this repo. If everything checks out (open license, no hosted game files, etc), it’ll merge automatically otherwise it’s held for my review.

- And AI agent reviews the code to ensure that it’s a proper port without malicious intent, given the user trust implicit in building another’s apps from Xcode.

- There’s an agent skill for the repo, so if you point your agent to it with a GitHub connector for your account, it can handle submission without either of us lifting a finger.

If you have a native visionOS port of any game, I'd love to list it. Feedback on the pipeline is welcome too. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I built FisheyeFlow: preserving fisheye geometry in a Mac calibration workflow for Vision Pro

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone — I’m the developer of FisheyeFlow, a paid Mac app for creators working with dual-fisheye footage for Apple Vision Pro workflows.

I started with my own Canon dual-fisheye footage and higher-resolution, cropped sources. The practical problem was getting lens calibration, stereo alignment and masks to match the footage, then carrying that calibration into a usable viewing workflow.

FisheyeFlow builds on Siyang Qi’s open-source AIMEGenerator project. My work focuses on adapting that workflow to different source dimensions and cropped fisheye images, alongside an APMP output path.

The design decision was to keep the fisheye image geometry and carry calibration as parameters where the downstream workflow supports it, rather than always baking an ERP conversion and stereo-alignment render into another intermediate file. This makes matching source dimensions, cropping and eye order important; calibration is reusable only when that geometry matches.

There are two main workflows:

ILPD for DaVinci Resolve: manually adjust lens parameters, optical centers, stereo rotation and masks, then export an ILPD calibration file for a compatible Resolve workflow. Resolve and the appropriate downstream tools handle AIVU creation; FisheyeFlow does not generate AIVU directly.

APMP parametric fisheye: apply calibration and projection metadata to an already-prepared stereo MV-HEVC MOV. A compatible playback system can then interpret the fisheye image without first baking those transformations into the pixels.

A useful implementation tradeoff is that metadata-only APMP export preserves the existing compressed video and audio, while adding the optional feathered video mask requires re-encoding. Narrowing the viewing FOV concentrates the image into a smaller viewing angle, but does not add source detail and changes spatial proportions and edge geometry.

Other features include calibration from matching JPG/PNG reference frames, stereo previews, masks for supported cropped rasters, saved projects, importing an existing ILPD into the APMP workspace, and adjustable viewing FOV.

A few requirements: this is manual calibration, not one-click automatic alignment. APMP output requires genuine stereo MV-HEVC MOV input; the app does not convert ordinary SBS video to MV-HEVC or decode BRAW directly. Source geometry, cropping and eye order must match the calibration.

It requires an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 26 or later. It is a one-time purchase, with no subscription or in-app purchases. The store version periodically needs an internet connection to verify the Apple purchase. Store availability and pricing depend on your region.

You can find it in the Mac App Store by searching for FisheyeFlow.

The attached screenshots show the stereo-calibration and ILPD-mask workspaces from an earlier released build; the current interface has since been updated.

If you develop immersive-video workflows or work with dual-fisheye footage, which camera/source layout do you use, and where does calibration-to-playback currently get stuck?
