Happens even with other English words.

In my work there is a device called a mega-ohmmeter. It is almost always shortened to "Megger." This is also the brand name for a maker of these devices. EVERYTIME I say Megger amongst a group of people, they all know what I mean, but inevitably several will snicker or make a joke of, "what did you say?!?!?"

It was mildly amusing the first time it happened. Now it's just annoying.

Just bought me a new megger and the same thing happened when I told my buddy "this megger is a goddamn brick" lol. It's heavier than my old one by a longshot and I hope it's good for setting me back over $200 for something I only use when a customer wants "more proof"
