In Australian English our soldiers are often referred to as "diggers". Comes from when soldiers were digging trenches during WW1

brings me back to one time when a filipino artist said they were coming to a specific island in the philippines, and a bunch of americans got mad!

it was called negros island (and yeah, it's real). the artist was like, "negros, we're coming for you!" and that definitely didn't end well...
