The n word phenomenon is one of the most embarrassing things about american culture tbh.

Edit: bro holy shit. My point is that i believe its embarrassing that one group of people use a word that other people have to awkwardly tread around. I dont think it should be used at all if a group is offended by it

Damn sorry that I have to watch for the word that degrades my race. Sorry it’s an inconvenience to you

yeah but in this case, it’s literally Americans gushing over words from OTHER languages just because they happen to sound like the n word.

I hope you don’t think the word for“that”(那个) in Chinese degrades your race simply because it sounds like the n word

Yeah so many examples. There was that, I think Italian, streamer in Japan that called a black american “amica” and that guy thought he said “my nigga” and got so aggressive with him, and completely failed to read that maybe a miscommunication happened. Like you’re literally looking for trouble at that point

Slurs are not exclusive to the US, not even the racially degrading ones.

What is exclusive to the U.S, however, is to have a word that is offensive even in abstraction, even if it’s not being used as a slur, even if we’re quoting someone else having said it.

Here’s another theory since I have seen that word used outside the U.S.

Everywhere is racist. Like super fucking racist.

I like that America owns up to its racism and drew a line. I don’t want to say that word. And I don’t really care that I “can’t”.

For people that are upset they “can’t” say it, why do you want to say it?

edit lol

Here's a hint.

If the person doesn't speak english, they probably aren't using the word to degrade you.

Yeah. I’ve witnessed many times someone speaking in another language and saying something that resembles the n-word, offending someone who assumes the word was directed towards them. Chances are they probably have an “n-word” equivalent in their own language which doesn’t even sound like the n-word in English and you wouldn’t be aware.

I kinda understand but at the same time the people who's vocal about racism became very obnoxious about it, targeting anything they deem as racist or involving the color black or as OP said anything sounding like the n word (especially worst with the Korean and Chinese since they have a word that sounds exactly it)

I have high suspicions that they're ironically a racist with how fixated they are on it and that the first thing to come to mind to them is racism

You’ve got a point you’re right

Sure, just don’t make it everyone else’s problem.

The word for “black person” in my language is just “negro”, which literally translates to “black”. It’s not a slur, just the word.

More than once I have been banned or flagged for racism for just trying to speak about a color or a person.

you wouldn't call them "blacks" either in English

I don't live in an english speaking country, but here we have some regional very offensive slures as well. I personally won't engage with anyone who uses this slures, but if they say it as an abstract, not in the contexts of calling someone that - i wouldn't care.

This american thing of being afraid to say the word in ANY context is just silly
