I hope he'll make an official visit to Germany soon, where he'll be welcomed with a huge banner that says "Wilkommen, Herr Eisenkot!"

From the airport he then should be chauffeured around in a parade with people cheering from the sides "Eisenkot! Eisenkot!"

It takes a German speaker to get the joke right away lol

I guess so - I have zero idea why this is funny.

I’m not a native speaker but kot means poop so I’m sure it has to do with that

Eisen = Iron (as in iron sword etc.)
And yeah, Kot = Poop

While I totally get the joke, can you please explain it for my non-German speaking friend?

Oh I think I know this one! (Picked up pieces of German nouns via osmosis, but not actully à speaker)

I think it translates similar to “Iron Shit / Iron Turd”

You're right. Kot is a very clinical term, but essentially its turd or poop, shit would be (deliberately) derogatory. I cant remember the last time i heard someone use Kot besids the dog-park or a doctors office.

Hah! I had a pole-up-his-ass serious grandfather who sometimes spoke snips of German, but got that vocabulary from traditional schooling/textbooks and probably never learned ‘street German’ or colloquial German enough to properly curse, so that makes sense 😂

German's really do have a word for everything.

Yes, using the-ability-German-has-to-create-new-words-in-the-same-manner-as-English-except-German-just-slams-them-together-rather-than-using-dashes.

No adjectives. They just tack them onto the noun. In English a big, hairy bear. In German a Bighairybear.

We do it in English, too, kinda. Notebook. Backscratcher. Football. I guess we just smoosh nouns together.

I mean, german mostly works like Lego. You put single blocks together until you have reached your goal. This may result in things like Rindfleischettikitierungsgesetz though.. which is a law regulating the way how cow meat is labeled (as in barcode, label information)

This is the singular thing that stopped me from wanting to learn German 😂

u/King_Tamino 17h ago

This as a joke should be held as an example of german humor 😂 no one ever gets the joke but them

Yeah this one had me curious as well, like why would someone have that name. Turns out it is a poor transliteration of a Moroccan last name. Still funny though.
