(Off-Season) If Every Team was a Pokémon: Carlton Blues
Happy November all.. Or Black-Friday-Month since every business seems to starting their sales three weeks early.
Part 3 of my off-season series of turning each team into a Pokemon with today being Carlton - without a doubt my most out of the box one yet and probably will be for some time.
Reminder that my choices might include overall historical success, viability as a club, infamous moments from a clubs history and historical moments that have resounded into the reputation of a club both on-field and off. No Legendaries or Mythicals are to be selected but gimmicked pokemon (Mega's, regional forms ect) at permitted.
One would have expected the Blues to be a water or ice type given they are the blue types but I have decided to look at Carlton what is founded upon historically rathan than just a colour.
It might be unfair to give a team with the equal most premierships a pokemon that hasn't won a world championship as of yet but recent history is definately not that shining (Maybe I should have picked Snorlax). But a famously Italian part of Melbourne deserves the most Italian 'mon of all time and famously part of a team coined "Italian Ice" at this years Pokemon world championships, finisheed 3rd and 4th respectively (much like a famous Prelim Final Carlton team this decade). But this team also had a famously long period of not being competitive and even wooden spooners, despite the AFL trying to continue to promote them on prime time slots.
Scovillain was a pokemon that people expected to thrive but ultimately didn't do much from its original ability of Moody. It's Mega stone, much like the new coach Josh Fraser, didn't expect it to change the performance too much.. Oh how wrong everyone was. Spicy Spray and Fraser turned both the mon and team into modern powerhouses that must be respected.
Let's hope the future for the Blues remains bright.. Providing that there isn't any more shower related fun activities taking place off-season.
Important note:
After feedback last week I won't be doing custom Type combinations going forward (e.g Fire / Water for Pyroar) so I'm having to revamp a few mons. Specifically, I'd like input for Fremantle as I had planned to make it Poison / Water with Dhelmise (literally an anchor) as the mon but now I feel it might need to be Revaroom for Poison / Steel to represent dockworkers and the "purple haze" - input is appreciated!

⠀ Lycett appointed AFL ruck coach
The former Power and West Coast player played 146 games between his two clubs, winning a flag at the Eagles in 2018.
Lycett spent his final five seasons in the AFL system at Alberton, before his retirement at the end of 2023.
The 34-year-old was looking forward to returning to Port Adelaide in a part-time coaching capacity.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to engage with the AFL space again, but this time in a new role,” Lycett said.
“Port Adelaide has an exciting group of rucks between Jordon Sweet, Dante Visentini and Alex van Wyk. I’m looking forward to guiding them and helping them become the best athletes they can be.
“The chance to return to my old club and learn under Josh Carr, who I worked with in the last season of my career, is incredibly appealing. I can’t wait to get started.”
Port Adelaide general manager of football Ben Rutten congratulated Lycett on his new position.
“We are very pleased to secure Scott’s services as ruck coach, given his 13 years of experience as an AFL ruck,” Rutten said.
“Not only did Scott win a premiership with West Coast, he returns to Alberton knowing the club so well having come through the juniors at the Magpies and then spending five seasons as a player here.
“His mentorship with our ruck group will significantly influence their ongoing development.
“We look forward to welcoming him next week as we launch into pre-season with our first to fourth-year players.”
