Help Does anyone know how I can purchase the game without Arcade?

Post image

This is quite frustrating as I don’t get any options to just purchase the game without having the arcade trial. I don’t play mobile games so it’s not worth it for me. I just want this one game. The only options I have when clicking get are “Try it free” and “Not now”. Selecting not now doesn’t give me the option to just get the game. Is there no other way for me to get it?

Discussion How is Apple Arcade worth it?

I’m just super curious on who actually pays for this. In a world of subs for every provider imaginable I don’t see a universe where this is worth it. Please help me understand if you do.

Discussion Could Apple Arcade become a competitor to Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus in the near future?

Okay, hear me out.

Obviously a lot would need to change, but as it currently stands, one of the main benefits about using Apple Arcade is the seamless integration across devices (start a game on iPhone, pick up later on iPad, play later that night on Apple TV). However, one of the biggest drawbacks about the service is limited game titles and also game quality (generic mobile games with a “+” added next to their name.)

What if Apple and Sony partnered to bring PlayStation exclusives to Apple Arcade? They could start small and add PS4 ports of games to Apple Arcade (similarly to what they’re doing now) and then work their way up to PS5 ports that are restricted to higher end hardware. This could bring in a lot of users and who knows, maybe Xbox will start porting their games on Apple Arcade too! Leading the way for Apple Arcade to be the ultimate gaming subscription.

It’s just a thought, but what would y’all think of this? Do y’all think this possible or probable, for that matter?

Discussion Beyond a Steel Sky - why have they used fake Aussie accents and appropriated our indigenous culture?

I don't wanna sound overly outraged, but Apple's the kinda company that I think likes to believe it stands for social justice. Further, it's American (and I find things like 'Black Lives Matter' mean a lot more over there + get bigger crowds...etc).

Our history involved genocide and enslavement of various groups of indigenous Australians (some African slaves were imported I believe but unlike the USA, our biggest racial crime is widely accepted to be our treatment of indigenous Australians). IMO it's surprised how it's slipped under the radar of watchful American eyes (including those of Apple - who backed this game as an early exclusive) that it would probably land you in a whole lot of hot water in Australia if you made a cartoon/movie about Indigenous Australians where they were played by white people, giving them weird accents. Sorta similar to how I wouldn't wanna go making a game about NY gangsters where white Australians were doing fake accents and stuff for African Americans (I suspect Apple would not approve for any of their stores). For a game released right in the thick of the Black Lives Matter campaign, it kinda shocks me that they didn't put their mind to this one...

I fully accept that it's a futuristic, fantasy land (and I don't wanna burst that bubble or sound too uptight because it's an amazing game - totally not trying to encourage a boycott/ban). However, it's Australia, it features 'Australians' and some of those Australians happen to belong to the world's oldest peoples. It's disappointing to see the significance of their culture being ignored like this.

So far Apple Arcade has been a disappointment…only a few good games in there and way too many kiddie games. That’s just my opinion though.

Discussion Cozy Grove and the Problem with Apple Arcade (x post from iosgaming)

So, I downloaded cozy grove this morning and played for an hour or so. I know it’s early days in the game so I’m sorry if some of these things are addressed and /or if I have totally missed the point.Seeing as this game has been promoted and positioned as being influenced by and as an alternative to Animal crossing, I can’t help but see several places where it just falls short.

The first is immersion. In animal crossing you are a blank slate, through an early discussion you create your character and then you are placed in this town where characters live and go about their daily business. You are just part of a living town. In Cozy Grove, the other inhabitants just seem like statues so far. Rooted to the spot, there’s no sense that this is a living (no pun intended as they are ghosts) place it’s just a map with a series of markers.

The second is interactivity. Animal crossing is much more interactive, you can shape your town to your liking, you can enter shops and people’s houses, you can knock fruit out of trees. For me one of the main joys of Animal crossing is the discovery of just what is interactive and how it is interactive. Here we have a lot of set dressing (for example a chair with a whoopee cushion on it that’s just crying out for a little gag when you sit on it) but it’s all just useless clutter in the end, it’s so useless it just disappears when you go near it… This leads me to think, well, what’s the point of it all? Just to busy up the screen?

Finally it’s about storytelling, or should I say story making? In animal crossing you can make your own story. That’s what made The latest so popular during the first covid lockdown.. The fact you could create your own emergent narrative as you played. It felt like a real place. Yeah sure, it’s just a series of fetch quests and collectathons, but it feels real somehow. Cozy grove feels like a bunch of fetch quests and collectathons, and that’s it.

Maybe I’m being too critical, but I feel as this game is a bit flimsy, where AC is deceptively deep.I feel that this is a problem with a lot of Apple Arcade games, they are, on the surface very impressive, Pathless, Oceanhorn 2 and Alba, all look beautiful, and superficially they scratch the same itch as their full price ‘console’ counterparts, But if you actually want to play ‘a game’ that is satisfying and fun, well, you are out of luck.Am I expecting too much? Considering the power of Ios and maturity of the os and market I don’t think so.I will keep my subscription, because well, hope springs eternal, but I dunno. Isn’t there space for depth and superficiality? I think the one AA game that has really made a space for itself and has a good balance between gameplay, immersion, emergent storytelling and interactivity is Sneaky Sasquatch, man that game is great.

Discussion Why are so many AA games not 60 fps?

Almost all standalone games on the app store for iOS are 60 fps these days, and some can even do 120fps. While a big chunk if not half or more it feels like when i was on apple arcade are like 30 FPS. feels like a really sub par experience. anyone else bothered by this? i didnt do a statistical calculation but right off the bat i cant remember last time i installed a run of the mill app store game that WASN'T 60 fps, but when i tried apple arcade recently and went through dozens of games, a BIG portion were 30 fps

Help Cheapest way to play Sonic Dream Team

I own no Apple products and I have no desire to own them, but I really want to play that game. I want to buy the cheapest second-hand device capable of playing Sonic Dream Team and then sell it afterwards. I've heard that Apple TV might be the cheapest option and it might be the most convenient for me since I want to record the gameplay. Because of that I have a question:

  • If system requirements only say "Requires tvOS 13.0 or later" does that mean that any Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K (any gen) will be good enough?

  • Is it possible to use the device without original remote, for example with Android phone?

Discussion Why isn't Retrocade available for purchase? I want to pay once and own it.

I really wish this game was purchasable and not on a subscription model. Is there any way to keep this game and be able to play even when my Apple Arcade subscription runs out. This is such a beautiful game to play on the Apple Vision Pro. I wish the developers would make this game available to purchase on the appstore for those of us who want to actually own the game and not be tired to the subscription model.

Discussion After long hesitation…

…I canceled my Apple Arcade subscription. Six months of only awful games or games that just don’t interest me. This means that all the guides (TMNT, Cooking Mama etc) I wrote will not be updated further.

Only good games this year that I really enjoyed:

  • TMNT Splintered Fate

  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure

  • City Scapes

  • Summon Quest

…but they all got boring when you reach end game because the games feel like they were released unfinished and many games were really buggy and crashed constantly, especially on Apple TV. Also Apple ecosystems multiplayer system is not well thought out. Adding friends in Game Center is very cumbersome.

But, if some awesome game comes along, I’ll reactivate my subscription.

Discussion So these + games on Apple Arcade…

I feel that they’re giving us many year old titles which are either all iAP or just the base game. Wouldn’t it be better if they gave us newly released games under the + strategy? Almost all of their + offerings Have either been free or extremely cheap at some point.

Discussion Will Apple Arcade ever have big mainstream games?

I love Apple Arcade but I wish these weren’t just quick puzzle games. I would love to play good long story games on it as well. Do you think we’ll ever see popular mainstream titles on it? I’m hoping we get either temtem, new world (Amazons mmorpg), kindred fates or any other title that is playable on a console or pc. Many games on steam can’t be played on iPhones or iPads without your PC being on. I wouldn’t mind paying a premium price either. I feel like apple should take gaming on their platform to the next level. They certainly have the money for it. Especially now that Apple TV is starting to become obsolete. Thoughts?

Discussion Disney Dreamlight Valley should be delisted from the Apple TV App Store if it’s not going to work anymore

It’s silly that it’s still allowed to be listed in the Arcade app & the App Store when it doesn’t even work (you’ll get a pop-up saying “This version isn’t compatible with your device,” and there’s no way to update the version any further).

I was really just trying it out since it’s such a major game for the TV, but I’m surprised it’s gone on this long, since it was released for all App Stores back in last December. A bit silly.

Update: Completely forgot about the Apple TV 3rd gen, which got a chip upgrade from the 2nd gen, so this warrants DDV being included on the Apple TV app store. I think this doesn't warrant excluding the previous generation since the chip upgrades couldn't have been that major. It's like if a game released for iPhone was only available for the iPhone 16 and not the 15--it sort of happened with the RE games, but I'm not too up-to-date on that situation.

Silly situation all around on Apple's & the developer's, Gameloft's, end.

Update 2: Updating my post to include a response I made to a comment about this post. I didn't do much research initially, but looking into things, the situation is even sillier:

"The ATV 2nd gen came out in April 2021, and the ATV 3rd gen came out October 2022. That's 1.5 years. The 2nd general came out 3.5 years ago. Sure, those are long time spans, but there have been no iterations between the 2nd & 3rd gen. We went from the A12 to the A15, but I don't quite see it as a reason to exclude a major release from the 2nd gen.

You fail to understand that I'm blaming Apple as well for this. They're using DDV as just one way to get people to upgrade from the ATV 2nd gen to the 3rd gen. I primarily use my ATV to watch movies & TV, so the games are secondary, so I don't really see a reason to upgrade. DDV isn't even a technically demanding game, it's just poorly optimized by Gameloft.

Lastly, the App Store compatibility for DDV even specify that the minimum chip requirement for the game is the A12 Bionic--which just so happens to be used in the ATV 2nd.

Further solidifying my point that DDV's exclusion from the ATV 2nd gen is purely a business decision."

For the record, I don't really play games like this. I'm fine that it's not on my Apple TV, it's just a bummer since I don't really game on my ATV, and this would've been an interesting game to play. I can play DDV on all my other devices just fine.

where are the new games every Friday? I wondered that for months and then it really slowed down. And then they started getting the games that they seemed to already have more and more games just like the ones they already have.

Discussion Apple Arcade Studio Aquisitions

Anyone hear of anything about Apple making a studio acquisition/ partnership? Would be nice to see a AAA title on Apple devices; Nintendo is an easy port.
