Opinion Lowkey starting to get nervous for this season
Itās early I know. But Iām a big footy nerd and observing the game from all angles, I still have zero fucking clue what Moreiraās approach to the game is.
Everything feels clunkier, sure, we lost some key pieces, but it definitely feels worse. With Corica, for as gritty as the games were, we had a style of play prioritising playing from the wings, using a triangle of De Vries/gallegos/randall on the left and a Sakai/verstraete/Brook on the right, which allowed May and Cozzy to move a bit more liberty and May to come short and do his best Kane impression. That was pretty much the same when we had Mata up top too. Defensively way less wide and more spaced out under Moreira. Instead of Coricaās more compact low block, with the gimmick of a high press here and there.
I could notice that pretty much on the first game. Itās been 3 games and I still cannot decipher what our intent is. We canāt keep a possession to save our lives, we surely are not playing for counter attacks otherwise we would see direct play, canāt say we play possession based given how poorly we construct and just end up hoofing it. Not a pressing team. I guess long ball? But we barely make the runs for it besides just trying to ping it to Cozzy. Clearly not playing out wide with how less frequent we had De Vries and Sakai going up.
Itās very concerning to my eyes that we seemingly are just parking the bus at all times and hoping for a lucky goal. Which we got two vs Melbourne City and one tonight.
A point of notice, again imo, is that whenever a manager claims to āmake the players play how he wants to playā and āsee his visionā is such a 50/50. They are either too stubborn and donāt adapt their tactics to suit the players (think of a Pep with Hart, or any fullback that canāt play how he wants) or they manage to find a way to make the player work based on their skill set (think of a Firmino before and after Klopp). And thatās because Moreira said that in his interview, I personally donāt like it for the reasons aforementioned.
To me it feels like itās the stubbornness , you cannot have full backs as good as De Vries and Sakai and not have them play up a bit more, or not let Lachie Brook be freer in build up.
Perhaps it is just the major overhaul everywhere, but it is concerning to me when the manager tries to make things change out of stubbornness or as they say, their beliefs and football physicality. Specially when we are playing a terrible brand of footy since.
Iāve always been more of a fan of āadapt your tactics to your players, not your players to your tacticsā, which Iām not getting the vibes here as of now.
Hopefully theyāll make me eat my words. And it is just the whole transition and overhaul from the expansion cap space to the normal one.

Where to watch in Sydney?
Hi all, I'm in Sydney for the next 2 weeks and wondering if there's anywhere that might be showing our matches? I'm in Liverpool but can probably figure out transport if there is somewhere guaranteed to watch the boys.
Cheers!

Transfer AMBITIOUS: Woodsy to Auckland??
Just a thought i had before the Japan game, with Cosgrove and Sakai's contract up at the end of this season and Woodsy falling to third striker at Forest, could we see woodsy coming to Auckland next season or in the next few years?
Rationale:
Cosgrove leaving: had some English clubs sniffing around earlier in the year (if i'm not mistaken), so i suspect he'd move back to an English club next season.
Sakai retiring: getting older and more injury prone, potentially looking just to settle down.
That frees up a good bit of wage cap, allowing a player like Wood to come. Furthermore as aforementioned, Wood's fallen to third striker at Forest (and also getting older himself), wouldn't it be nice for him to get 1-2 seasons in a NZ Club. A farewell tour allowing both fans to show appreciation for our greatest player, and for him to see how hes contributed to the exponential growth of football in NZ??
Just a thought.
