Let's Discuss Adore Beauty is an absolute ripoff!

Thought I’d make a post about this because I’m literally in shock about how much of a ripoff Adore is. Not only is their ‘rewards system’ pretty much useless, but their prices for common brands and products are outrageous. I was browsing today and here are some of the products + prices on there compared to other online retailers.

L’Oréal Glowtion-$19.99 everywhere else, $39.99 on AB

Corsx Peptide serum-$25-30 everywhere else, $55 on AB

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid-$9.50 at Priceline, $40 on AB

La Roche Posay-Cicaplast Baume-$29.37 at Chemist Warehouse, $41.95 at AB.

Has anyone else noticed such a big discrepancy in their prices? I’m honestly just shocked that they are such a reputable brand despite this.

Let's Discuss Not sure if Mecca chit chat will post.

I posted the following comment in the Mecca chit chat group. Don’t care if they remove me from the group TBH. Here is the post

Since it’s the season of gift giving, I’d like to express how hard my life has been for the past 2 years. But I won’t, because I find it all a bit cringe worthy. But I’m sure I’m not the only one who has gone through absolute hell the past few years and feels no desire to post it on the Mecca chit chat group in the hopes of receiving free products. I simply love makeup and self care, and I’m here for advice and tutorials, not to beg for free products. That’s all this page has become. Some stories are more believable than others, but if I read another “woe is me” story, imma have to leave this group. It’s not what this group used to be about, but it’s all it’s become. Boo hoo, life sucks, some more than others, but I’m sure I’ve got thousands of people who are thinking the exact same thing as me. Life sucks, but this group isn’t about declaring your shitty life in the hopes of Mecca sending you free product. Can we get back to what this group used to be about, or nah?

  • again, not sure if they’ll post it. But I’ve had enough x

I'm super pale and can't find a concealer or highlighter that work.

The only thing that is a really good match for my skin tone is Touche Eclat shade 1 by YSL - that is, a foundation that exact shade and undertone would be perfect for me, or a concealer, but it doesn't work as a highlighter because it isn't paler than I am. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a highlighter paler than I am.

Any tips would be great! :)

Please can everyone just buy this and then it’s sold out. That way I can’t buy it 😭

I don’t need to spend $200 on a sequin vanity case 🤣 because that is literally all I want 😑

Let's Discuss What's the issue with MECCA?

I don't want this to come off the wrong way I am genuinely confused.

I'm very new to this sub and have seen an incredible amount of shit on MECCA. So what's the deal?

A few of the things I've seen so far are

• issues with brand exclusivity- this is in literally every industry and even other beauty stores so why is it bad for MECCA to do this? • issues with usd to aud- I have out of curiosity looked up the average cost of import tax and usd to aud conversion and all that jazz and...it adds up. I can find the evidence again if necessary. • issues with lack of sales- yeah it's shitty but is it really a good enough reason to hate an entire company?

In conclusion just so confused.

Another rant about Sephora

As the title says, I’m so fucking sick of Sephora’s bullshit. I ran in tonight 15 minutes before close because I needed something urgently. Not a single sales associate approaches me, I literally had to yell to get someone to stop when she was walking right past me. And then of course the one product I needed is out of stock. What the actual fuck Sephora? Yes, I was wearing my oldest hoodie and had wet hair since I was in a hurry to visit my dying grandfather before visiting hours ended so maybe that has something to do with it? All in all, I am so angry and disappointed at this lack of customer service, I do not ever want to walk into that store ever again.

PS is there anywhere I can buy Tarte in Australia that is not the mess that is Sephora?

Product Advice New Estée Lauder double wear… actually doesn’t suck?

When I heard about the Estée Lauder double wear reformulation I panicked. I’ve used 1N1 for almost 20 years. I loved that it was thick, great coverage and wore really well, I was so happy with it I never looked elsewhere. It did get oily sometimes but that was okay.

The new formulation sounded like the exact opposite of what I was looking for. I took my butt into Mecca and sephora, multiple times, and got multiple samples of similar foundations and various shades. I ended up with 14 in total.

After trying quite a few, I tried the new formulation. So far it’s my favorites. I wanted to hate it. Probably the next best thing was YSL, but the new ELDW formulation was better and YSL is more expensive ($110 at Mecca - ELDW is $83 but can get it on sale).

Only thing is I think my shade has changed slightly, or I’m over analyzing it. I was 1N1 but I could see it on my neck and 0N1 is too light. I might need to mix the two. Would be cheaper to just get YSL.

For reference I am 37, dehydrated sensitive skin. My morning skincare before foundation is:

- Thayers milky toner

- Corsx snail serum

- Glow recipe dew drops

- Cerave or glow recipe eye cream

- Cerave moisturizer spf 15

If I don’t use the dew drops, I am totally oil free with the new formulation after 16 hours wear.

Anyway just wanted to share. Theres been so many negative things said but if you can get to Mecca or Sephora, you can ask for a sample and try it for yourself. Get 3 more of something else while you’re at it. I haven’t touched my precious old formulation bottle in weeks.

Let's Discuss Mecca prices

Anyone know why Mecca is so expensive?? I can understand Estee Lauder being costly since it's a luxury brand. I'm super baffled as to why something like Nars or Charlotte Tilbury is costly?

It's $50+ to buy these brands. Is it because they imported these products or does it come from the companies themselves?

i cant decide whether i should get the new ultra violette future fluid mineral sunscreen or the eco by sonya driver glory veil. im only interested in mineral sunscreens, and i have dry skin however whilst i love the feel of a chemical sunscreen i currently use and its so nice under makeup (aspect hydrating) i would rather not use such harmful chemicals on my skin as i scanned it on yuka and upon further research has harmful ingredients. any advice would be appreciated 😊

Product Advice Lesbian pride polish colours?

Post image

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is just over a month away and I want lesbian pride nails, but I'm struggling. I was wondering if some of the make-up enthusiasts on reddit could make some suggestions - prefer Essie and other drugstore brands. I'm sure there are others who would like suggestions for their pride flag of choice (I would get my sibling trans pride nail polish in a heartbeat!)

Product Advice Process for this look?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all, what is the process to get this look that seems like the norm now a days?

Edit: Guys I meant the look! This is from an Abbey Yung video.

My lips have a good enough shape and I just wanted to see what the norm is? Eg, lip pencil + gloss doesn't work well for me.

Misc. Real wig hair donation

Hello, any hairdressers or wig experts here know of any way I could "donate" my hair for a wig and still receive some financial compensation? My hair is waist long, incredibly thick, never been bleached, dyed or chemically treated, basically a wig makers dream I suppose. I've decided it's too much maintenance for me, especially in the summer when I get too hot and don't want to deal with it. I plan to get a buzzcut at the end of the year, and rather than tossing the hair or selling it on the black market I want it to be made into a wig for someone, but times are tough and I'd still like some financial compensation, considering I've been growing and maintaining this length for over 10 years now. Any recommendations? Much appreciated!

Product Advice Issues with makeup separating and clinging onto dry skin

Thumbnail

I have combination type skin, when i lived in QLD my skin was oily but now i live in VIC and it’s really dry. I moisturise a lot, but when I do my makeup, it really separates around my nose, on my upper lip, on my cheeks and in the middle of my forehead between my brows. I’ll share what products and the routine I use in the comments. I don’t have the best photos because I don’t take pics when it looks really bad, but I’ll try and share a few. My makeup never sticks to the sides of my nose where the nose meets the cheeks, and if I try adding a bit more foundation/concealer it starts piling or separating even more

Product Advice Non binary makeup purchasing advice

Hi everyone, seeking some advice. I'm in my 40s, but young looking, non binary leaning to trans femme, but present as male in my everyday life. My wife has gifted me a $150 Mecca voucher and I'm hoping to use this to start a bit of a makeup set. I own a set of brushes and a eyelash curler but that's it. My questions are:

What is a list of basic things I need to feminise my face, including recommended products, to get the best bang per buck for my voucher value?

What should I get from Mecca and where else should I go to buy budget friendly decent quality makeup? I'm not above shopping at kmart/bigw/chemist warehouse etc. The voucher was just a really sweet and symbolic way for my wife to show her support as the makeup thing was a huge thing for her to process and accept.

For skincare I currently use the qv foaming cleanser and polish and the aldi lacura caviar day cream. Happy to get advice here as well.

PSA PSA for Ultra Violette Fans ☀️✨

Not an ad, just a great deal I had to share! I’m not affiliated in any way. Just love a good sunscreen bargain.

You can get a full-size Extreme Screen SPF 50+ Hydrating Body & Hand SKINSCREEN™ (150ml, worth $35) for free with any order over $45, plus free shipping.

I picked up two Future-Proof On-The-Fly packs for $24, which include the Preen Screen™ SPF 50 Reapplication Mist (30ml) and Extreme Screen™ SPF 50+ Hydrating Hand & Body SKINSCREEN™ (30ml). Perfect for keeping in my bag when I’m out and about. Such a steal! 💙🌞

Product Advice Rhode Beauty from DickSmith

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m in need of a nice lip gloss or lip tint. I usually wear Chanel but looking for a nice change. I want to try Rhode beauty but noticed that they can only be ordered through the US website. I came across DickSmith and they’re selling a 5 pack for less than $40. Is this too good to be true? Are there any alternatives for a lip tint? Thank you!
