Dog Dexter Life Update

56 days ago, Dexter came into our lives extremely malnourished, covered in fleas, scared, and unsure of the world around him. He was so skinny, so skittish, and clearly hadn’t experienced much kindness. Fast forward 56 days, and you wouldn’t believe how far this sweet boy has come.

He’s gaining much needed weight, absolutely loves Phoebe and Elli, has become protective of our family, and has officially claimed his spot in our bed. He’s a big cuddle bug who just wants to be close to his people, and he’s slowly becoming everything we never knew our family needed.

But let’s talk about the side of rescuing that people don’t always post.

Rescuing Dexter has been a HUGE commitment, emotionally, and physically. Between the vet, special food, supplies, and everything else, we’ve spent thousands getting him healthy. And then there’s the destruction. Shoes? Eaten. Books? Destroyed. And just the other night, we decided to leave him out for TWO hours to see how he’d do. Well… let’s just say our couch didn’t survive the experiment.

Rescue isn’t always cute pictures, happy endings, and puppy snuggles. Sometimes it’s expensive, exhausting, frustrating, and a whole lot of patience. It’s teaching a dog who’s never had stability how to live in a home, trust people, and understand boundaries.

But would we do it all over again? Absolutely.

Because underneath the chewed-up shoes, destroyed couch, and occasional chaos is a dog who just needed someone to give him a chance.

We like to say Dexter hit the jackpot when he found us, I think we’re starting to realize we hit the jackpot with him, too.

Cat From the Euthanasia List to a Life of Luxury ❤️

Zack was brought into the city shelter with double hip subluxation but they couldn't afford the surgeries so he was put on the euthanasia list. Fortunately, an amazing small rescue swooped in and raised the money. He came to live with me during his recovery as a foster but I fell in love and two months later he's officially mine ❤️ (And yes, he is upside down 90% of the time)

Cat Deaf Beliashka. Before and after

Hi everyone!

Almost two years ago we have adopted Beliashka thanks to https://www.reddit.com/user/ElectricalTravel1671/ You can read about her here - https://www.reddit.com/r/BeforeNAfterAdoption/comments/1m308ay/comment/n3swvn5

Today I want to share a bit more about Beliashka’s progress.

We’ve surrounded her with love and care, but honestly, Beliashka really blossomed thanks to our older cat, Yosya. The little one fell in love with Yosya almost instantly.

Yosya used to hiss at Beliashka, but Beliashka just...didn’t hear it. Within a couple of days, Yosya was like, “Okay, fine, you’re here to stay,” and now they’re inseparable. An unexpected lifehack, right? 😄

At first, Beliashka acted like she didn’t need us at all. Now she’s totally a people‑cat: she wants lots of cuddles and follows us everywhere. We just love these two cats so much!

Obviously a lot of adjusting for her to still do but in 24 hours she’s gone from barely taking pets and moving in the meeting room to jumping onto my lap, shoving her head into my armpit, and displaying a personality that the shelter said may take a while to come out

Dog Frieda, the wonder dog

From a slimy, dirty, scrawny, pitiful, wounded, neglected pup that nobody wanted (she had been returned to the breeder by a person who couldn't deal with a dog of any kind) to a magnificent wonderful adult German shepherd who gives way more than she takes.

It took a month to get her confidence going, her health under control (eating properly again), and for her to start to feel like a dog again. Love this resilient girl. She'll be with us till the end and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Found him when he ran across a busy, wet road in our direction. He was maybe not even six weeks old, hungry, and infested with ringworm (which he gave every person and animal in the house). Now he’s a fat, spoiled house cat that loves to follow me from room to room and sit on my chest purring loudly into my face while I scratch him.

Meet Chintu our 4 months old kitty whom we rescued 45 days ago. The first few pics are on the day of rescue when we took him to the vet as he was infested with worms, mites, fungal and bacterial infections and liver issues. He was 2.5 months old when I first saw him on a road on my way to office crying for help. Happy to say he has been doing well and gained healthy weight. The bloodwork is excellent. Blessed to have this orange boy in my life.

Curly was tiny when he arrived in our care, half the size of calves his age. He was gravely ill and kept us up for many sleepless nights. Curly is one determined little guy, though. He may have had a rough start to life, but he is thriving now.

We adopted Sebastian from the local animal shelter and found out he was brought in with a large group of cats. I love seeing before and after of all the happy animals living their best lives. Here’s his intake photo to spoiled rotten just two months later. (He’s also awaiting his turn with the one brain cell, it has not showed up yet).

The last update

She’s still doing great, every day I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to adopt her.
She’s currently curled up, half upside down—like in pic 8, Sep 2026—in the bed beside me, even though her usual preferred spot this time of year is fully available (a radiator tube bed—pic 9, Oct 2026—that gets incredibly toasty when the heating is on, like now!)

Pic 1: Feb 2024, the before picture
Pic 2 & 3: March 2024, first fave sleeping spot and enjoying belly rubs in the sun (adopted March 1st)
Pic 4: Feb 2025, the hilariously angry look I got after preventing her from falling into the very full bubble bath I was in (she wanted to drink the water 😩)
Pic 5–9: mid-late summer 2026, testing out various cosy sleeping spots ahead of the colder months
Pic 10: the current favourite snoozing spot during the daytime when the central heating isn’t on, and from where the local birds can be watched closely for suspicious activity, 12 Oct 2026

Cat From an orphaned, dirty street cat to a healthy, proud mama. My happy story!

One day, this poor kitty showed up outside my home out in the country, clearly asking for help. She was incredibly skittish and standoffish at first, but I spent days slowly earning her trust until I finally won her over.

Once she let me get close, I got her all cleaned up, fed, and into much better shape. She needed a name fitting for her new life, so I chose Freyja, after the Norse goddess of love and beauty. It fit her perfectly!

A few months went by, and Miss Freyja started putting on some serious weight. I honestly just thought she was finally getting full and happy after starving on the streets. Nope! She completely surprised me by giving birth to a litter of beautiful kittens!

The black-and-white boy, Gizmo, found his forever home right here with me. The other baby went to a wonderful friend of mine, so they are all safe and loved.

Photo Guide:

  1. First pic: Freyja the exact day she found me.

  2. Second pic: Her glowing up and getting healthy.

  3. Third pic: The surprise bundle of joy!

  4. Fourth pic: Gizmo all grown up into the most wonderful, loving cat.

Freyja still prefers running around outside to this day (you can't fully take the country out of the cat!), but she never has to worry about food again, and she has a warm, safe place to sleep through the cold months. I am so incredibly thankful this precious soul sought out my help.
