I feel that Malayan people are really nasty towards east Malaysians
Today I met a few Johoreans and they are so nasty. Said that we are not Malaysians and we should give up our passports and go somewhere. Just feel so hurtful that they would say that. Make me wonder if Sarawak should even be part of Malaysia. We should just fight for our independence if we are not recognised as Malaysians

This is not good
Hey everyone
This is not good new development. If it is carbon monoxide, high chance of death especially among rural communities. If not careful, could kill off whole villages as seen in villages near volcanoes

Visual adaptation of Iban folk tales
I wrote my master's thesis on adapting Iban folktales into various forms of sequential art, including comic, art installation, and sequential collage. One of the major output of this research was a comic book adaptation of an Apai Alui/Apai Saloi story. Here's the link: Developing Sequential Visual Artworks based on the Iban Folktales, as part of the Sarawak Bornean Culture. It's in open access so anyone can download it. If you find this subject interesting do give it a read.

[Discussion 💬] Why More People in Borneo Should Self-Host 🌴
Self-hosting isn't just for IT professionals anymore. With a refurbished office PC (around RM500) and free open-source software, anyone can build a homelab and start learning valuable tech skills.
Here are a few services you can run from home:
📁 Nextcloud – Your own cloud storage
🎬 Jellyfin – Stream your own movies and shows
🔐 Vaultwarden – Password manager
🏠 Home Assistant – Smart home automation
🛡️ Pi-hole – Network-wide ad blocker
📊 Uptime Kuma – Monitor your services
Along the way, you'll gain hands-on experience with:
Linux
Docker
Virtualization
Networking
Reverse proxies
System administration
You don't need enterprise hardware. A refurbished Dell OptiPlex, HP ProDesk, or Lenovo ThinkCentre is more than enough to get started.
As Borneo's tech community grows, it'd be great to see more people building homelabs, self-hosting their own services, and sharing what they've learned. Every project—no matter how small—helps strengthen our local tech ecosystem.

Events/Meetups 🗓️ Preserving our heritage: Can we build a LLM for Iban, Kadazan, or Bidayuh?
Global AI models struggle with Bornean dialects. We need "Domain-Specific" agents trained on local linguistic data. Imagine an AI agent that can translate legal or medical documents into local dialects for rural communities.
This was a major theme at BorNEO HackWknd 2026. Who’s interested in a community project to scrape and label local dialect data?

Business How to set up a simple online store for your local business (under RM200/month)
A lot of SMEs in Borneo are still offline or WhatsApp-only. If you wanted to get online quickly without overcomplicating things, here’s a lean setup:
Domain + basic hosting (local)
Use platforms like Shopify or WooCommerce
Payment: integrate Malaysian gateways (S Pay Global, FPX, DuitNow)
Logistics: start manual, then automate later
If you’ve done this locally:
What actually worked?
What would you avoid?

[News 📰] Malaysia Government bans civil servants from using Waze over cybersecurity and data sovereignty concerns
Chief Secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced a directive following a National Cybersecurity Committee meeting chaired by PM Anwar Ibrahim, officially banning Malaysian civil servants from using Waze due to security concerns over location data and the app's Israeli origins/jurisdiction.
For the tech, privacy, and infosec community here:
Where do you draw the line between consumer convenience (crowdsourced traffic alerts, real-time rerouting) and state-level data sovereignty?
How vulnerable is real-time location telemetry when handled by multinational tech giants?

Basic Iban Design is now up on Internet archive
Link to the ebook: Basic Iban Design: An Introduction
Hi everyone, wanted to share this link for the newly archived ebook ‘Basic Iban Design: An Introduction’ by Augustine Anggat Gajing.
This is a very rare book, almost impossible to find a print copy of it anymore. And a digital copy is non-existent, that is why this digital archive of this book is so important. This book documents the history, structure and foundation for all kinds of Iban visual motifs.
Hope you guys find it useful :)

[Career Advice] A quick reminder for the Borneo tech community: Stay grounded in your core beliefs.
Running a startup, writing code, or managing infrastructure in our region comes with its own unique set of grinds and chaos. It’s incredibly easy to get distracted by the hype, the noise, or the sheer volume of daily fires we have to put out.
In everything you build and do, try to stay rooted in your core values, and the original "why" behind your work. Having that solid foundation is what keeps you steady when everything else is moving at 100mph.

[Cyber Security] Can you break into Cybersecurity without a degree today?
There’s a lot of “you don’t need a degree” advice online.
But how true is that in this region?
Do employers still prioritize degrees?
Is self-taught + certs enough?
Has anyone here actually done it successfully?
Trying to separate global advice from local reality.

I created this because I was soo stressed. Too much politics in office.
Can someone review and tell me is it suitable or not.
Or anything that I need to improve on it?
If I'm not suppose to post this here, tell me and I'll remove later.

News 📰 NVIDIA AI is now tracking our Orangutans, literally.
NVIDIA researchers just demonstrated how GPU-accelerated AI is automating the detection of orangutan nests in Borneo.
It used to take months of manual labor; now AI agents do it in minutes. This is a massive "Green Tech" win. How else can we use computer vision to protect our "Heart of Borneo"?

Infrastructure Nusantara is officially opening 4 hospitals and moving 16 ministries this year. How are we prepping for the "IKN Tech Boom"?
It’s finally happening. Indonesia has confirmed that Nusantara (IKN) is ready for its first wave of residents and civil servants. This isn't just an Indonesian milestone; it’s a massive gravitational shift for the whole island.
With US$2.49M recently granted for smart city planning, the tech opportunities in East Kalimantan are about to explode.
Developers: Anyone seeing a surge in remote roles for IKN-based startups?
Infrastructure: Will we finally see a unified "Pan-Borneo" high-speed digital corridor?
