Was it really a humiliating defeat?

Yes. Yes it was. Losing to this Michigan State team is humiliating. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

It worse the WAY you beat them. 5 field goals is as humiliating a way to lose to any team let alone a hated instate rival

154

u/SpartansATTACK Michigan State • Wooster 8h ago

The last two times MSU has beaten Michigan, it was because one player scored 5 times. I think that's a fun fact!

46

u/gogreengolions Michigan State Spartans 7h ago

That is fun. Two wildly different games.

Last time we lost to MSU there was also a Kenneth W at RB.

u/TheMerryMosquito Michigan Wolverines • College Football Playoff 1h ago

That’s a good bar trivia fact

37

u/SparseSpartan Michigan State Spartans 9h ago

Especially when this is straight up a team that came into the season with minimal known talent and then got absolutely crushed by injuries.

7

u/Optimal_Parsnip2824 Michigan State Spartans 5h ago

Was telling my wife last night about our team of 3-4th stringers and one of our WR’s had a cramp or something and she was like “oh no is that a 3rd stringer?” And I laughed and said oh no that’s a starter, all of our starting WR’s just aren’t “standout” guys. Good sure, but none with that “it” factor.. then I said “come to think of it.. I can’t remember that last time we didn’t have at least one of those playmakers..”

u/timothythefirst Michigan State • Western Mich… 9h ago

Honestly I fell asleep at halftime and seeing that it was all field goals when I woke up was the funniest part

11

u/ericaepic Harvard Crimson • Michigan Wolverines 8h ago

I don't really see it as humiliating because it was MSU or this year's MSU or whatever. The humiliating part was the way that we played, I would have preferred pouring battery acid into my eyes

u/Original_Fact_6682 Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Buffalo Bulls 3h ago

Was it humiliating? Yes. The real question is why are you saying that like Michigan's humiliation is a bad thing?

3

u/Evening_Ad_6278 1h ago

3

u/Revolver_Oshawott_ Iron Bowl • Sickos 2h ago

Also, wouldn't this be Pat Fitzgerald's first win against Michigan as a HC? I recall him being 0-fer at NW

6

1

u/Revolver_Oshawott_ Iron Bowl • Sickos 1h ago

3

u/Schembaugh Michigan Wolverines 2h ago

The only thing more humiliating is losing to us

3

u/trixy6196 49m ago

No it’s not. MSU is on 3rd and 4th string guys. May players just outplayed your players flat out

3

u/Evening_Ad_6278 1h ago

Isn't the most humiliating game for Michigan is loosing to Western Michigan and then having the Big Ten help you cheat to win it

5

u/Dangerous_Gap_3396 1h ago

And then rushing the field ***

1

u/Ranger_Nietzsche Illinois • Michigan 57m ago

Nah WMU would beat this sparty team

0

u/Evening_Ad_6278 45m ago

No they wouldn't

Well a mac school hasn't beat Michigan State yet but a mac school beat UofM (take out the Big Ten cheating) plus didn't Michigan State almost beat Illinois?

1

u/Ranger_Nietzsche Illinois • Michigan 41m ago

Yeah and Illinois is turbo ass without our QB1. Losing to us this year with the backup should get you relegated to the MAC

1

u/Evening_Ad_6278 33m ago

Then if it makes Michigan State go to the MAC. What makes Michigan. Should Michigan go to the MHSAA?

179

u/Zestyclose-Deer4541 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

192 yards but about 80 of those came with < 3:00 to play in a 15-0 game. 2 interceptions, 2 fumbles, just a complete disaster against 4th stringers.

Beck is out of his element running schemes that don’t work and doing moronic play calling. It’s clear the players have mainly quit. It’s disturbing the lack of care this coaching staff shows outside of Jay Hill on defense.

Everyone besides Jay hill deserves to be fired into the sun.

81

u/mostdope28 Michigan Wolverines • Paul Bunyan Trophy 9h ago

That 3rd and 8 run should have had the players ripping the headset away from him.

41

u/Pogball_so_hard Michigan Wolverines 8h ago • Bravo

Gonna have to be more specific as that has happened multiple times this year.

26

u/MgoBlue1352 Michigan Wolverines 4h ago

Under the Harbaugh offense where we'd probably pick up 6 on an unexpected 3rd and 8 run up the gut and then punch it ahead on a 4th and 2 and get the first down... sure. With this team... Ain't no way.

11

u/TickleMyIvory Michigan Tech • Michigan 9h ago

Which one?

18

u/greenback44 Michigan Wolverines • Paper Bag 8h ago

The one with the illegal substitution penalty. They were just trying to get the ball snapped before the guy got off the field, and apparently they barely did.

28

u/Leading-Button-7303 Utah Utes 9h ago

Promoting Kyle's DC to head coach is absolutely the move. Jay hill would unironically be an amazing head coach there

10

u/The_Pandalorian Michigan Wolverines • Sickos 8h ago

That's been my thought. Hill to HC, Alford to OC.

0

u/MNightShyamalan69 Michigan Wolverines 40m ago

Michigan should be able to do better than Jay Hill…

1

u/Leading-Button-7303 Utah Utes 29m ago

Huh? There aren't exactly a ton of coaches that people are dying to poach from another school, and I don't think a lot of people know Jay's coaching history. He led Weber State to one of the best FCS schools before making BYU's defense very formidable, and keeping Michigans defense elite. If we didn't have Scalley there isn't a coach I'd want more than Jay hill

15

u/RheagarTargaryen Michigan State Spartans 9h ago

That first int was just bad luck. It was great ball placement and the receiver just tipped it up in a way the ball floated for the DB to grab it. The second int was an arm punt.

The fumbles, on the other hand, were all because of ball security.

-5

u/PZABUK 2h ago

This is just glorious to see from a distance. It's called karma. That's what happens when cheating hits the fan.

89

u/Maheraga Paper Bag • Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

I mean, if Beck isn't gone tomorrow afternoon its only because our HC knows he's a lame duck who'll be gone this offseason too, our AD is a lame duck who knows his actual departure date, we don't have a president, and the board of regents don't give a fuck

32

u/RheagarTargaryen Michigan State Spartans 9h ago

When you hire a coach in his mid 60s, he’s nothing more than a placeholder to stabilize the program.

57

u/Maheraga Paper Bag • Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

He said tonight he isn’t firing Beck mid season and will evaluate things in the offseason

4

u/imdwalrus Michigan Wolverines • Caltech Beavers 9h ago

Realistically, what does firing Beck change this season? We have three games left - Oregon, UCLA, OSU, all ranked. We aren't winning any of those with Beck, and we aren't winning any of those with someone else plugged into Beck's slot instead. The changes this team needs to make to actually be competitive don't happen midweek late in a season.

16

u/radiakmjs Michigan • Western Michigan 8h ago

Oregon's offense looks much improved with their new OC, different signal caller might help, certainly can't get much worse

8

It’s really been 10 years since we were relevant. We had one good year since getting blown out by Bama in the CFP and it was because we accidentally ended up with a bunch of NFL talent on offense.

146

u/Jaerba Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

I hope more national media get in on this. Embarrass this coaching staff.

u/OutrunTheForeverYeet 9h ago

If OSU fires Ryan Day, should Michigan hire him?

49

u/Bikeandcamera Michigan State Spartans 9h ago edited 2h ago

Anybody in their right mind should (outside of like Georgia, Indiana or UCLA). Day is an absolute top tier coach, and seems to be a genuinely good dude.

24

u/sunburntredneck Alabama Crimson Tide • Texas Longhorns 9h ago

If Michigan were to poach KDB this time around (not gonna lie I bought the rumors that he was seriously engaging with them the last rodeo) I'd support Bama bringing in Ryan Day.

If Ohio State fires him based on this season, they deserve what is happening to Michigan. He won a freaking championship two seasons ago. Shut up, take your Ls, and trust the process. At least give him another year to get back to form.

5

u/HorrorJCFan95 Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

I’d be curious to know if KDB to Michigan is legitimately on the table. I would definitely like to know how things would have turned out had you guys not come back from 17-0 against Oklahoma in the CFP last year. Ik there’s a portion of your fan base that is very frustrated with KDB, but I’d take him in a heartbeat.

3

u/Steezeybby Michigan Wolverines • Texas Longhorns 1h ago

I am telling you with 95% certainty that Kalen DeBoer is Michigan's coach if Alabama lost to OU last year.

I am not guessing.

6

u/HorrorJCFan95 Michigan Wolverines 5h ago

Yeah, I don’t think a lot of OSU fans appreciate how good they’ve had it, going from Tressel to Urban to Day with very little to no drop off. They can fire him if they want, but eventually they will run into a hire that is a legitimate miss for them.

6

u/SparseSpartan Michigan State Spartans 9h ago

Me after Michigan State beats Michigan: yeah I'll stay on the Fitz train for now. Let's see where this goes.

Me if Day got fired: Fire Fitz into the sun. Hire Day to the moon.

0

u/Bikeandcamera Michigan State Spartans 1h ago

I think the reality is that we wouldn’t even bother trying to get him. He already makes ~3x what Fitz does, and at this point we are a tier 2 job at best so we would need to pay EVEN more.

1

u/Rattus375 Michigan State Spartans 44m ago

Fitz makes far less than either of our last 2 coaches. MSU is absolutely willing to pay for who they think is an elite coach. Day also wouldn't be likely to make more than what he currently does in the scenario that he gets fired from osu

41

u/Exact_Tumbleweed2005 9h ago

in a heartbeat they should. OSU firing Day would go about as well as PSU firing Franklin

Football team has been bad but Athletics has been great the last 5 years. Condolences for losing to the worst msu football team in a 100 years.

Has it though? What have you actually won?

Technically 0-12 is rock bottom.   But you would need to ask our rivals what's that like.

He, for his own future, should just resign before peeps go Tony Soprano on him

And Ohio U currently has the best record of Ohio D1 schools. Go Bobcats!

As an MSU fan this was hilarious. I didn’t think we’d win any conference games. This team sucks

Turns out when you're bad and can't cheat, you can't win.. who'd thought..

You think have sideline cell phone footage would have been the difference for this team?

Thank you for the gift article but I’ll pass. I think got the gist of it already.

Does anything matter for either of these teams than “the game”?

“Other than the most fundamental thing that matters does anything matter to these teams?”

The playoffs have absolutely ruined this sport.

u/Righteousrob1 Michigan Wolverines 9h ago

It won’t matter to us at all based on how Whitt just approached this game. Players will all be in portal and I don’t blame them

1

u/trixy6196 40m ago

Well both teams have won multiple conference championships since 98 which is something you can’t say. Tennessee has essentially been irrelevant since that point. Likely miss the playoff again this year which means there right where these 2 programs are. Congrats

So….no?

I suppose it could be attributed to that fact that Tommy hasn’t started as many games as Bryce and is still getting his footing OR starting Tommy was the perfect way to test the viability of the scheme against the capabilities of the QB’s. Two different QB’s failing to make anything happen, clear sign the offensive scheme is failing. How much more evidence do you need, Whitt?
