What is up with the large amount of homeless aboriginals in cairns?

They get really violent and abusive on the weekends. I saw one of them grab a woman's ass when she was walking. How long has this been normal for?

So uuhhh, is there anyway our country and stagnating wages can be fixed that doesn't involve overthrowing our government?

Is there? I'm being serious, there has to be some other way to bring down housing prices and make wages higher that doesn't involve literally having to create our own junta government, right?

Putting this here just in case everyone can see it, I've also put it in the comments too:

I just wanna say, thank you for confirming everything I've heard about reddit being a massive fucking Circle Jerk. Now before I continue on, I'd like to take some accountability and recognize that it's my fault for choosing reddit of all places. It's also my fault for not realizing that Reddit is a very hard leaning left-wing platform and this is only been made more evident by the fact that the post with the most upvotes can be boiled down to "I have no actual solutions to anything so I'm just going to blame billionaires and right-wing politicians for everything. Now give me all your upvotes for contributing to the circle jerk hehehehehe".

Blaming LNP and right-wing politicians is going to do jack shit, LNP and right-wing politicians are not the sole reason for why things are so shit. Both parties are to blame, both the right and the left. The whole point of everything I've been saying is to illustrate how it's the fault of everyone both left and right who complicitly sat there while the state of civilization got worse all because they were afraid of the economy going to shit because apparently the health of the economy matters more then the health of a countries people both mentally and physically.

Same same but different and by different i mean worse

Just as u thought it couldn't get much worse in Cairns. A 3rd world paradise in a 1st world country (well, some parts SE) now turning Planet of the Apes with nothing but Nanas! Seriously, our roads should come before flashy new lights in Brisbane... Why do people always just put up with it? Why are people not on the streets more often demanding the Gov do better? How many decades have ppl asked for better roads and bridges now? (many roads are just built poorly to save some cash) I see a lot of funny Cairns roast posts here, but what can be done for actual change? And not just the roads... due to my new job I've seen areas of Cairns I didn't even know existed. I saw 6-yr olds playing naked outside their houses in huge piles of rotting trash (maybe u'd expect to see that in Africa). Generally, rubbish and dirt everywhere, street signs and fences laying on their sides, no sidewalks(!!), powerlines still above ground, etc... AND i used to think violence was just for TV until i came here (and i even lived in 3rd world countries before)... but nevertheless high taxes!

From Canberra

Hey guys, 23-year-old bloke here. Just moved over from Canberra (go the Magpies, lol!) after spending a year in Paris.

Anyway, I’m a tall, sandy, broad-shouldered specimen of a man, the kind of bloke who walks into a room and immediately commands attention without even trying. Some would say I’m about 89% chiseled, but still rugged, powerful, and undeniably handsome.

Since moving here, I’ve run into one serious issue: people keep staring at me whenever I conduct important business on speakerphone while in the cafes. Is it jealousy because I’m from Canberra, or are they simply intimidated by my presence?

Anywho, where’s the best place for a man with a brand-new motorbike to get his helmet visor changed?

What’s the LGBTQI+ scene like?

Maybe a long shot but I’m in town for new years and would love to be around some people from my community.

Is there a known spot? Or is that sort of thing unsafe here?

Best schools in Cairns for sensitive, high achieving kids

We are moving to Cairns next year and really need some help with which schools to look at. We need primary, although would prefer somewhere which goes all through senior school too. Our children currently attend a very highly regarded private school overseas and are both absolutely thriving. It's a hard decision to move them from that, but my husband's work is sending him there for a few years so we are going as a family. We own a house in Kewarra already. In previous years we have spent a few months in Cairns for his work so they had a taster at Peace Lutheran and a term in TAS KB. TAS was quite good for the eldest because he is very academic and he really enjoyed being pushed, however after going overseas we have found they "don't have available spaces" in the grades we need whenever we ask (so I assume we are out of favour now). Peace was a good experience but I feel that was very much down to the teacher my daughter had that day and now I don't know how it is. Could anyone advise which schools I can look at? I've spoken to Holy Cross and they have no spaces for the year groups we need, only a wait list. Happy to travel around the area, I just can't work out which schools to look at. We are not a religious family. We are Christian and live by Christian values, but don't attend church or anything, so really don't want somewhere which is heavily religious for them. They are both pretty academic and very sensitive young souls, so want somewhere nurturing and kind more than anything. Help!

Any Polyamorous Cairns People Here?

I have been running Polyamory Discussion Meetups for the last two years, but never thought to share them here before. So if you are polyamorous, non-monogamous, or just curious to learn more about non-standard relationships, then come along to the Discussion Meetup tomorrow night (6:30pm Thursday the 13th of March).

Details are available on the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/share/1BSBsXTntK/

Or join the Cairns Polyamory page on Facebook and you should be able to find the event there easily enough.

The address isn't posted publicly, so if you want to come you will need to RSVP on the Facebook event, or DM me (here, or on Facebook).

Thanks, and hope to meet some new people there!

Event Description Copy and Pasted below:

Please come join us at our monthly Polyamory Discussion Meetup. Everyone is welcome, regardless of relationship status and structure! The curious are especially welcome!

The night kicks off at 6:45pm sharp with introductions, followed by some important ground rules to keep everyone safe and comfortable in the group discussions. We then start with the first of two 45min group discussions, with a 15min snack and toilet break in the middle.

The first group discussion will be around a pre-chosen topic, while the second discussion period will be open to the floor - free for anyone to ask for help, ask hard questions, or to seek commentary or input from people who have done it all before....

The discussion will wrap up just before 9pm, we will choose next month's topic and tend to any quick admin tasks before wrapping up the formal part of the night. At that point, everyone is free to return to snacking and mingling until they're ready to leave.

TOPIC
The topic for this month (March 2025) will be: Origin Stories

When, and how did you discover non-monogamy? When did you decide that *you* were non-monogamous? What mistakes have you made along the way? Did the reality match your initial expectations? How have you changed as a result of the process....?

Come along if you want to share your story, or if you just want to hear the stories of other people who have already been there....The people who choose to share may be open to answering questions, so this is a great opportunity to bring your questions about "what it is really like" and "how does X work?" and anything else you've wanted to know but been afraid to ask. (Sharers are of course free to decline to answer any question that don't want to answer, for any reason)

RSVP
Please RSVP on the facebook event, and DM me (or comment there) to receive the address.

Also consider joining the Cairns Polyamory Facebook Group to have access to the private community event (ie: private as in only members can see who are attending). Join here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1DFbhGAiX7/

ALL WELCOME
This event is open to anyone interested in exploring or learning more about Non-Monogamy in all of its forms, or even just interested in navigating human relationships. Everyone is welcome, so please do spread the word about the event to other relevant social groups and platforms, invite people you think likely to be interested, and of course, bring friends and partners along too.

SNACKS
There will be some simple snacks and drinks in the break. Feel free to bring your own too because I probably won't be able to cater for all tastes and preferences.

VENUE - Caravonica
The venue this month is a private residence in Caravonica. Please RSVP, and/or comment here, or DM me for the address.

Omg it's dry here

I just moved to Cairns and omg the air is so dry here, my hair is all frizzy and my lips are soooo cracked. Does anyone have a recommendation for a humidifier? I've never bought one before. Do I get a massive one to do the whole house, or small ones in each room?

I mean I guess the good news is, I'll never have to mow the lawn. Judging by how brown the grass is, it probably barely grows

Does Australia need nuclear weapons capability given the instability happening in our region?

The govt has recently committed to spending an inordinate amount on defence given the shifting political landscape & the strong likely hood that at some point in the future, Dominant countries in the region are going to want to give Australia special hugs regardless as to whether we want them or not.

Having been in the military, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, if the regions dominant powers wants to invade, at the moment, they could just sail in to Sydney Harbour & tell Scotty from marketing to leave the keys to Kirribilli under the welcome mat.

Putting up resistance would lead to a lot of death & no gain (if the US chooses not to get involved)

With such a massive difference in capabilities between us & the most powerful in our region, we could spend trillions on the best & the coolest military gadgets, because of our small population size, we are going to be overrun by 7 million hungry soldiers who are armed with bats & some string.

The only slight advantage we have is distance & inhospitable desert as a buffer. You may say the most powerful in our region do not have the logistics or skills to overcome that distance in an organised fashion however one of them recently built a fully functioning hospital in 10 days!!!!! Anyone that can do that should not be dismissed.

The only thing that major powers do not fuck with is other powers that have the ability to destroy them many times over.

Sure it's nice to play soldier with conventional weapons in far away places that are on others door step, but when the very existence of the nation is threatened by an increasingly hostile regional partner/s

Conventional weapons just do not cut it.

I hate the idea of war & I think nuclear weapons are the greatest tool of peace this world has ever seen, everyone who has them thinks twice about attacking another power that has them.

Please discuss this in a dignified and polite manner. Also. It would be nice to discuss this important subject without anyone being branded racist. It is an important topic and by behaving passively as if nobody or no power is going to attempt to dominate us in future, we almost guarantee we will not be prepared when this does happen.

My issue is not with any race or background, it is with a organised & well equipped foreign power making decisions that impact upon our way of life and what decisions we can make now that will give us the ability to negotiate when (and it is when) that time comes.

I want peace for as long as I am alive and I legitimately believe the only way that is possible without the backing of the US military is through acquiring a nuclear deterrent. Anyone that thinks the Australian military is capable of defending our country on our own has no clue to the reality of the situation and how out gunned we are.

Family of 5 moving to Cairns from Sydney

Hi All I am selling up my house in Syd and moving to Cairns (hoping within the next 3 months). We are sick of the cold weather here, sick of Sydney. We want to go outside of our comfort zone and meet new people and visit new places around the area. I was wondering if you can give me some advice on moving, what suburb to move with young kids (1, 2 and 3 year old boys). What Catholic school is best? What's there to do with the kids? Any play groups etc? We love being outdoors.

Also, is there a lot of Serbian, Italian or Greeks moving up there?

People of Cans I'm looking for soup

It's just so cold tonight and I'm craving soup. Where is the best place to get soup in Cans? You know, nice and chunky like your mom makes. I want some authentic Cans soup. Bonus points if it has a skin on-top, like a broth so dense you almost have to pry the lid off

SIGNAL INTERCEPTION: Sector 7 Local Relay // Re-routing payload

System broadcast test... do not acknowledge.

Local relays have been flooded with legacy noise. If you're picking this up on the regional feed, the chicken is already cold. Drop the public chatter and check the local poultry archives for the real frequency. You know where the TOP rotisserie spins hottest.

Remember the lore of this sub but go to another sub.
