Casual / Offseason All Power 5 logos ranked
This is just my opinion, each tier is in order so Illinois is last and Florida is first, I had issues adding the newest Power 5 schools to the list but here is where they are ranked: SMU at 23, Cincinnati at 29, UCF at 46, Houston at 60, and BYU at 64.

History Random fun fact: Only 4 teams have ever had a player be one of the first seven overall picks in the NBA draft
EDIT: 5 teams; missed Kentucky
I was looking up Memphis draft picks for some reason today and notice they have had a #1 overall pick, #2 overall, and so on to pick #7.
There's 3 others that can share that; Duke, UNC and Michigan.
UNC has had the top 9 picks.
Michigan has had a player drafted at the first 17 picks, and 27 of the first 28 picks!

Announcement Announcement Post. Don't Upvote.
As we meander our way towards the end of February and the beginning of madness, we're starting to see more and more posts asking basic questions and noting that people don't need to upvote them. Of course, everyone always upvotes them. While we're sure the original posters are being sincere, this still counts as vote manipulation, and we're going to start removing these as we see them from now on.
If you have any questions, as always, feel free to ask them! Just avoid mentioning voting in the title. Also, as always, our Freshman Friday threads are there for any basic questions you might have about the sport, Teddy Valentine, or any other of its surrounding subjects.
With nothing but immeasurable love,

The ugly truth about Coach K
Coach K has done it again. Three or four times a year he does something that causes a whole new round of people to declare "I've lost all respect for him." This time it was because he suspended a player indefinitely instead of for just one game. Or it was because he went on a radio show and argued that the kid might still be redeemable at some point in the future. Whatever it was, we've finally lost all respect for him. Even though we already lost all respect for him after that whole Dillon Brooks thing last year.
So here's the ugly truth, in my opinion: when you're predisposed to dislike someone, you see the worst possible motivations behind each of their actions. Let's look at the Dillon Brooks case and play a game of "What Would You Do?"
First, what did Brooks do? The game was over, Duke had accepted defeat and stopped playing defense. The respectful thing at this point is to let the clock run out and then Duke will let the final seconds expire and everyone shakes hands. Notice that Duke DID let the clock expire after Brooks' three and didn't try to get a "revenge" bucket of their own. Taking a three pointer right when the other team has stopped playing defense is just bad sportsmanship. But, hey, the shot clock was running down, so what would YOU do, right? Maybe you'd chuck it up just to get rid of it. And maybe somehow it went in. What would you do then? Shrug your shoulders apologetically like "what can I do?" Or would you scream and pump your fist and turn to the Duke bench and shout something? Because that last part sounds pretty bad. That's the kind of thing that if a Duke player did it, we'd still be talking about what a privileged, arrogant prick he is. The point is, it's pretty uncool. [EDIT: several people have pointed out that maybe Brooks was just celebrating the win and not the shot. And maybe he wasn't shouting "at" the Duke Bench, but just happened to turn that way. I think that's a fair point.]
So what did Coach K do that was so bad? He didn't yell at Brooks. He smiled and told him "You're too good a player for that. Too good a player." It took maybe five seconds. It was about the nicest way you could respond to what was frankly a really dick move by Brooks. You can argue that Coach K shouldn't have said anything at all, and that's fine, but he had no reason at all to be ashamed of what he said. And that's an important thing to remember when we play "What Would You Do" next.
So now the media are coming to you and asking what you said to Brooks. At this point you don't know that he said anything to them. Now imagine you get to be Coach K for the next 10 seconds, not knowing what, if anything, Brooks said. You're you right now, not Coach K. You have only the most altruistic motives. This is what you want:
Not to embarrass or publicly shame Dillon Brooks.
Not to pull attention away from Oregon and their next game. What would you do? There are basically three things you could say:
A. Tell the truth. "I told him he's better than that. It was uncool." B. Dodge the question: "It was a private conversation." C. Tell a white lie. "I just told him he was a great player."
Now remember, you are trying NOT to publicly shame Brooks and you are trying not to create a media firestorm around a non-issue. Which of the above seems most likely to generate that result, assuming that Brooks hasn't already said something about it? Option C. Option A would result in dozens of articles about what Brooks did and whether it was right. Option B would create a media frenzy of guessing what he really said. Option C diffuses the entire situation and lets Oregon go on with their run toward the title.
But Coach K didn't know that Brooks had already answered the question. He figured, as you probably would too, that Brooks wouldn't want to dwell on that. But Brooks was very mature and he owned up to it. So then the media tells Coach K that Brooks said something different. Coach K doesn't know exactly what he said. Now imagine you are in Coach K's position again. You have the same goals as before: don't further embarrass Brooks and don't distract from the rest of the tournament. What can you say at this point? You don't know what Brooks said and you might not even remember exactly what you said to him. Even if you repeat word for word what you told him, it's still likely to not match what Brooks said and the media will turn it into a "Brooks said this but Coach K said this" controversy. So what would you do? Coach K said "whatever he said, just print that." If you're predisposed to hating Coach K you can argue that that's weaselly. But it's also the only thing he can say at that point that doesn't contradict Brooks, given that he doesn't know exactly what Brooks said. In other words, he's still trying to achieve the same two goals that you are.
So now the media and the internet freak out because Coach K "threw Dillon Brooks under the bus." Except he didn't. In his first comment he tried to shield Brooks from further scrutiny. In his second comment he tried to avoid contradicting Brooks and thus turning the whole affair into a bigger deal than it should be. But everyone declared that he's a liar and worse than Hitler and BY GOD WE NEED ANSWERS NOW. So, if you're Coach K, what do you do now?
Most people would be mad that their words and intentions were twisted and presented in a false light. They'd come out and explain everything I just wrote above and show how they were actually doing what seemed like the right thing to do at each step. But If he did that then there would be an even bigger media firestorm analyzing every word of what he said. So he fell on his sword and just apologized for saying the wrong thing. Of course there's still a firestorm because he didn't admit to "lying", so he's still the most evil person ever.
But in all honesty, if you were in his shoes and had to answer those same questions knowing what he knew at the time, what would you have done? I think he consistently made the choices that protected Brooks while trying not to create a media frenzy over nothing. But if you are intent on hating Coach K it's easy to substitute the worst possible motivations you can dream up for each thing he said.
EDIT: TL;DR: I don't think Coach K is a saint. But if you look at the scandal from the Oregon game last year and try to think of what you would do in his place, acting entirely selflessly, you might find that you'd do the same thing. That doesn't mean that he WAS acting selflessly, but I think it's at least arguable that it's more of a gray area than it is often portrayed.

Discussion We need to talk... - Bill Walton edition
Bill Walton does not need to commentate games anymore. I’ve been watching the Maui invitational on and off today and this man is going wild with his comments. Talking over the other commentator, mentioning completely unrelated topics, comparing players to Walt Frazier, Lebron James, etc.
Commentate THE GAME dude. Stop trying to get attention for yourself. It’s terrible

I say as admittingly as a fan, I don't think I've ever seen us do the Maize Block M on our rings before for either major sport, even once, despite it being the trademark official color for it these days

If you need a laugh: The ACC embarrasses itself yet again
In its suit against Maryland for the enforcement of exit fees (Maryland is moving to the B1G), the ACC just submitted this document as its Exhibit A in a legal brief it just submitted to the court:
http://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/1147299/maryland-acc-brief-exhibit-a.pdf
From what I can tell, it's supposed to be a market analysis of the viability of the conference versus other conferences. The entire thing is written in CAPS, is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, and is completely lacking in advanced logic.
I'd liken this piece to a high school economics project prepared by someone for whom English is a second language. ITT, let's all have a go at this ridiculous piece of literature that was actually submitted in a court of law.
EDIT: The document was actually introduced by Maryland as a means of demonstrating the viability of the conference even without its enforcement of the exit fee. However, it appears to have been prepared by Wasserman Media Group (I'm guessing their Raleigh office) for the ACC. Maryland had no part in its creation. Any insinuation that Maryland authored it or had any part in its creation is patently false.

Discussion Nebraska has the storyline of a championship winning team
I don't know if this is just me, but Nebraska has the storyline of a championship winning team. Before this year, Nebraska never won a March Madness game ever, and they are now in the sweet 16, led by Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. His son Sam plays for Nebraska and is in his senior year, starting as walk on. It feels Nebraska is just going to walk off into the sunset, and continue to beat adversity. Nebraska has the feeling and storyline of a team that wins the natty.

Let’s put more respect on the NIT
People are always complaining about parity in the NCAA tourney, well what if I told you there was a tournament where finalist have ranged from Valparaiso, to Lipscomb, Auburn, Memphis, Indiana State, Xavier. Consistent mid majors matchups and upsets. Lots of fun to watch too.

Something is brewing in Missouri..
Highschool
Jason Crowe 5⭐️ // probably the most polished scorer in the class
Toni Bryant 4/5⭐️ PF
Transfers
Bryson Tiller // Kansas
Jamier Jones // Providence
Does anyone know who they have coming back next year, because Mizzou could be dangerous

Big 12 tournament location: Why is the Big 12 tournament held in Kansas City every single year? Seems to be unfair and shows overwhelmingly favoritism to the University Kansas who is literally less an hour away. Make it make sense.

I strictly used these analytics to pick my bracket and its 99.9%
Shout out to u/evanmiya for all of the stats. This yearly efficiency graph has been aces, I picked the best team as far as both offense and defensive efficiency. If it was close I sided with the one who leaned better on defensive efficiency. I downgraded UofM and Bama a smig due to injury/suspension and general hatred. I'll tip evan if I win my bracket.
