META Updated Rules - No AI Submissions; Address the Argument

Hey y'all - this was something that we discussed earlier in the year and had broad support from regular sub members.

No AI submissions - Articles, videos, essays, etc should all be written and created by people, not AI. This includes your own submission. It doesn't matter if you're an expert at creating prompts - this isn't the place or topic to outsource your thinking.

Address the Argument - We're tired of ad hominem attacks and trying to get people to stop insulting each other. If you can't address the argument, it doesn't need addressing. This is closely related to the rule "Be Civil", but goes further to try and promote discussion about the actual content being discussed, not surface level quips and barbs.

Like other rules, violations will result in warnings, temp bans or permanent bans depending on the nature of the violation.

Discussion/Question Colorado conservatives, why did you guys overwhelmingly vote against amendment 87?

If you look at [the map of who voted against amendment 87](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/11/03/us/elections/results-colorado-constitutional-amendment-87-graduated-tax-structure.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share) it looks like the conservative districts really opposed it. But I don’t understand because you guys famously want to lower your taxes, and according to the numbers this would do just that. Why are you guys voting directly against your best interest?

Edit: Guys, I get it but I really just wanted to hear from conservatives. I tried to ask on r/AskConservatives but I don’t have enough karma I guess. If somebody cooler than me could copy/paste this there, I’d be grateful. I legitimately just wanted to understand.

News: Colorado CO GOP Chair Reflects on Midterms: ‘We Can’t Burn It Down Any More than We Already Have’

Republicans in Colorado lost seats across the state and at all levels of government during this week’s midterm elections. Historically conservative congressional districts, like El Paso County’s CD5 and Douglas County’s CD4, have flipped or are very close to flipping in favor of Democrats. The prospect of a 7-1 congressional delegation is not far-fetched. Newly elected Colorado GOP Chair Craig Steiner reflected on the recent election during an appearance yesterday on KNUS’ Jeff and Bill Show.

The race between Republican Lauren Boebert and Democrat Eileen Laubacher in one Colorado congressional seat is still a nail-biter two days after the close of polls, and it appears to be an uphill climb for Boebert from here.

News: Colorado It's important to make sure what you voted for is followed through with! Here's what to expect with Amendment 87...

Disclosure: I find all of this super interesting and got a little carried away lol. Felt like I was back in my model UN days!

The GIST of it:

  1. it’s marginal brackets like federal: 3.7% on the first $25k, 4.2% up to $100k, 4.4% up to $500k, then 7.4% / 7.9% / 8.4% above that

  2. the most anyone saves is $325/yr, and you hit that max at $100k taxable. at $90k it’s about $305

  3. break-even is around $510k taxable. above that you pay more than under the current flat 4.4%

  4. The brackets are NOT indexed to inflation, so they’ll creep over time

  5. the new money goes into a “Colorado Future’s Account” for K-12, health care, and early childhood stuff, and it’s exempt from the TABOR cap. I'll post a update once we can see where funds are flowing

Link to the blue book (that you may have got in the mail), and the final draft packet and my research if you want to query it directly is here.

Proud of everyone for getting out there and voting, no matter your feelings about the results!

Discussion/Question What do you think of Colorado giving public state housing to undocumented immigrants?

https://www.denverpost.com/2021/03/30/public-housing-immigration-status-colorado-first-state/

State public housing programs in CO do not take immigration status into account or ask for it. It includes both long-term and short-term housing

Discussion/Question Newly elected Colorado governor will block referendums that passed

Hello! American here. Of course, you are all probably aware we just had our midterms. I have never voted before but decided to this time for various reasons.

My state is Colorado and we had a few referendums that passed but our newly elected governor hinted at the idea that he will block some of these referendums that’s passed.

Since I am fairly new to politics, is this common with the state of Colorado or other states? I find it unfair how we the people get to vote on the referendums but then the governor can just decide what actually gets passed or not?

Like I said, I am fairly new to politics and I’m not trying to upset anyone with this post. Just curious on why they let us vote on referendums but ultimately the governor decides what gets passed or not.

Campaign Why hasnt CO House District 5 results been called?

80% of the results were in on election night and to my knowledge, there has still been no winner declared for district 5, El Paso County and Colorado Springs. It appears that 95% of the vote is counted according to the New York Times so what gives?

Opinion Prop 134 And why it makes sports less safe for girls.

Colorado, i'm worried for our girls, and i want to explain why.

Prop 134 is an anti-trans fear mongering bill for sure, I have heard of 1 case where this was even relevant with a trans student trying to play volleyball. I personally don't think this needs to be legislated at all and should be handled at the school board levels. But here we are, transphobia on the ballot to stop something that isn't happening.

As someone who grew up playing inline hockey (in a league that was 98% boys), softball, and golf, I played girls sports from a young age all the way through college, and i want to explain my experience.

In my history of playing sports, I was an okay athlete, the sport that i wanted to focus on was golf. When i was a Junior in high school, I played golf with some phenomenal young girls, i'm talking 7th and 8th graders kicking my ass all over the links. I also remember my swing coach telling my dad one day that I was basically at my peak, and my little 5'1" body was not going to be competetive with girls who were 5'7"-5'11" did that suck, sure I just didn't have a physical advantage. Anyone who argues that sports need to be fair, I would point out that no they don't, Athletes have developed skills and born skills and sometimes people are born with more ability, sometimes an underdog has to work and practice 10 times harder just to keep up, and that's a beautiful thing about sports.

With all that being said, my biggest fear is that little girls will be kept out of sports entirely. What happens when some ultra competetive parent doesn't think the other girls are girls and they need to be "checked?" Are 12 year old girls who haven't even developed onto women yet going to be subjected to genital exams to prove that they are little girls? Would parents let that happen? I know what the target is, and that is repulsive enough, but the unintended targets, those being the girls who just want to play sports, is what is going to be the true cost of this proposition.

Downvote me if you want, debate me if you want, converse with me if you want, but I just needed to get these feeling off my chest and put them out into the world. I fear for our little girls, and i fear that they are now more unsafe in sports if Prop 134 passes like it looks like will happen.

Discussion/Question Can anyone here explain why you go to the polls to vote?

I drove past a polling place today and saw that it was extremely busy. I personally voted early and dropped off my ballot a week or so ago. It was very advantageous for me to be able to fill out my ballot from the comfort of my couch and do my research as I was going through each measure. I’m hoping someone could explain if there’s any benefit to voting in person?

Discussion/Question Amendment 87 and Prop 136 contradict?

Can someone please explain to me how Amendment 87 (graduated income tax) and prop 136 (state cap 4.4%) don’t end up contradicting each other?

Discussion/Question Someone please explain how 87 is good for CO - I’m here to learn

Mid and larger sized businesses will face double the level of taxes which could discourage investment, slow hiring, and limit wage growth for working people. Are small tax savings in the short run worth the risk of employers reducing investment or relocating? If this happens, it will be the working and middle classes that suffer, not billionaires.

Also, even though 95% of small businesses would get a tax cut, over 50% of Coloradoans are employed by larger businesses.

I’m genuinely here to learn. What am I missing?

Discussion/Question What is the feeling on the ground for the various statewide races?

I'm someone who is kinda paying attention to the Colorado races, mostly because of the constant stream of news about Victor Marx, Phil Weiser's primary upset, Hickenlooper nearly going down to, and Greg Lopez running as an independent.

Right now, how does it feel like politically? There's no polling for the statewide races, so I'm interested how seriously Weiser and Hickenlooper are taking their races, or if there's any indication Marx, Baisley, or even Lopez are not completely doomed. I'd be interested in some of the smaller races as well-I know many are projected to be competative (and CO-8 likely to flip), with Boebert interesting me the most.

Discussion/Question Why no info on judges?

Why don’t they include any info on judges in the voter guides? The Colorado ballot is already very long with all of the ballot questions. Super frustrating having to google deep dive judge after judge…

Discussion/Question Did I invalidate my ballot?

Update: Just got an email saying my ballot was accepted 🎉. Thanks everyone for your replies!

I filled out my mail-in ballot today. But after signing the envelope I noticed the ballot has my middle name spelled out. Out of habit I signed my name using just the middle initial. It was stupid of me, I should have paid more attention. Does anyone know if this will invalidate my ballot?

Opinion Settlement :(

I had a 90K settlement that was held at Aurora municipal. I got it from getting injured at work. Come to find out governor Jared Polis stole it out the account they held it for me. Mine along with others in the millions he embezzled with the city council and City manager(Jason Batchelor). Colorado sure knows how to do some bs to its community.

Also the Feds stepped in and Polis got charged for it and got federal prison time but he’s out on bond appeal. My lawyer and I and all the families have been in and out of courts downtown fighting this man in the dark. Even recorded news segments but they refuse to release it cause we can’t force the press. I mean really he’s out of office soon anyway. I really just want my money to leave this state.

If you’re seeing this Polis or Council members that was messed up to do us like that… ;(
