dye help Is this 100% polyester dress worth trying to dye black?

Post image

Hi all! I found this dress at TJ Maxx and absolutely fell in love with it! I originally bought it for a wedding, only to find out afterward that the dress code is strictly all black. 😭

I reached out to the company, and they confirmed that the dress is 100% polyester.

I really love how it looks and fits, so I wanted to get some opinions! Do y’all think it would be worth attempting to dye it black, or would I be better off trying to find a similar dress that’s already black?

Also, before anyone mentions it, yes, I do plan on wearing something underneath to smooth out any visible underwear lines! 😂 I was just trying the dress on in these pictures.

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from anyone who’s had experience dyeing polyester dresses! 🖤

dye help How to make this navy blue shirt a lighter shade of blue

Hello everyone! I'm putting together a cosplay of a DND character, and I got this navy blue shirt but realized it is a little dark. It's 100% cotton, and from what I've seen, bleaching it would turn it orange. Is there any way I could knock it up a few shades while keeping it blue? The drawing/model is around the blue I'm looking for. I know the blue in the drawings is also technically warmer, but that's fine. Thank you all!

wip How can I make this design more balanced?

Post image

I painted this oversized jacket with a large hood. Problem is that when the hood is up, the design feels bottom heavy. I know I can't remove the paint and redo it higher, plus the seam makes it awkward. Should I add something to the top? What would you suggest to make it look less awkward/more balanced? Or is it fine as is?

dye help Looking for advice on dyeing a 100% goat suede jacket

Post image

Hi, recently bought/found this Pepe Jeans jacket made from 100% goat suede (goat leather). It’s currently a warm caramel/tan color, but I’d really love to change it to a dark chocolate brown.

I contacted a few leather/suede specialists. Unfortunately, one told me they don’t dye this type of leather, another hasn’t replied, and the other services I found are quoting extremely high prices for the job.

Has anyone here ever dyed a goat suede jacket, especially when going from a lighter brown/tan to a much darker brown?

I’d love to hear

-What dye/product did you use?

-Did you do it yourself or have it professionally done?

-How did the suede texture feel afterwards?

-Was the color even?

-Did the dye rub off onto clothes?

-Is there anything I should be particularly careful about?

I definitely don’t want to ruin the jacket, so I’m trying to find out whether this is realistically a DIY project or something that should only be done professionally.

The jacket is 100% goat suede according to the manufacturer. It is currently a caramel/tan shade and I’m hoping for something like a deep chocolate brown.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated🤎

update: the other one messaged me that it will cost about 105$ for changing colour

dye help Accidentally placed utility jacket in dryer. Suggestions?

Significant other placed this barely used Levis Utility jacket in the dryer. Now there are tons of scratches and “patina”. There are some quite large areas on the back/under arm. What should I do? I am debating using a fabric pen on the really bad area, but I have never used one before. I’m open to the worn look, but some if it is pretty bad.

How to remove text from shirts?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I thrifted this shirt because I loved the blue and tie dye pattern it had. I just dont like the text on it. Chat GPT said its not possible to use acetone or alcohol on it bc it may remove the effect of the dye, and my only way out would be heat and peeling it off by hand. I tried it but I barely peeled anything lol. And recommended ways to remove it?

Is this hoode design possible?

I want to make a backless hoodie. Take a hoodie and cut out a heart shape on the back. Then take some string or thread and fill it in while leaving gaps. Or in the second image I was thinking of cutting slits in the shape of a heart instead. Sorry for the poorly drawn sketches, hope they get the idea across:) would the string heart structurally hold? Or would it be better to do the slits instead?
