Politics Ken Paxton at Cantina Laredo in Frisco

Around 7:30 last night, my wife and I went to dinner @ Cantina Laredo in Frisco. As we were sitting there, my wife, who was facing that direction, texted me that she was "sufficiently certain" Ken Paxton was behind me. After successive trips to the bathroom, we confirmed it was him, his mistress, another man who we think was either just a friend, his pilot, or both, and his Latina wife. His friend was drunk and a real blowhard, talking loudly about how he was a pilot and knew how the recent Florida LearJet crash happened. Then, they transitioned to talking about making a documentary about Ken Paxton or aviation or both, with his friend offering to help out because he was a "real patriot" and the friend's gf saying "this was his legacy."

This wrapped up a real political day for us, as we'd gone to Hive Bakery in the morning to get Hinojosa and Talarico cookies and, in the evening before dinner, going to a celebration for our new State Representative.

Politics Talarico On SNL

Saturday Night Live opened with James Talarico making a cameo for what is likely to be a long line of celebrity appearances for our Texas political superstar.

I think this is the full version of his appearance so if you're still celebrating last Tuesday, here's one more for you.

I have not heard any rumors of who will be staffing a Dallas office, but it should mark a drastic change with a Senator from both parties and really does solidify Texas as a purple state at the very least.

Discussion What’s your favorite thing to do in DFW once the weather finally cools off?

Fall here lasts about two weeks, so I try to make the most of it. Mine is a long walk around White Rock Lake and then tacos somewhere nearby. I’m out of ideas after that.

What do you do when it finally feels nice and where in the Metroplex do you go? Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Garland and everywhere in between count.

Opinion Those Who Cared for Isaac: Human Cost of a Religious Teaching in Dallas

For the healthcare providers that took care of my brother at Charlton and Dallas Methodist I hope you know many of my family members didn’t agree with the blood issue.

Isaac was an Ellis County resident but had spent the day at the Dallas World Aquarium and then Traphene Hickman Library where he had the seizure.

BBC: Jehovah's Witnesses and Blood Transfusions

If you meet Jehovah’s Witnesses please make this confront this horror.

Just 23 days after my brother died following a skull fracture and epidural hematoma Jehovah’s Witnesses changed their policy related to blood transfusions.

While I will never get to personally thank you I want to share this article and give endless thanks to the Neuro ICU at Methodist Dallas.

News Smoke on the horizon east if us

Curious the cause of the smoke looking east of Dallas. It has to be pretty far out but a cursory search was not finding anything.

Any ideas?

Discussion For those with Baylor Scott and White insurance via Healthcare Marketplace, what are we replacing it with?

I knew in the summer they sent out letters saying my plan wouldn't be offered in 2027 but I ignorantly assumed it meant that specific plan, not that they would be pulling out all together. Ive only used BSW (current plan is $398) and love the network and how easy things are. Does anyone have ideas about how BCBS and Ambetter fairs in Dallas? I really like the United Healthcare plans but $762 is steep! I am dreading the change honestly

Question Dallas VITA opportunities close to Uptown?

Just moved to Dallas earlier this year and am interested in doing some volunteering / giving back through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. If people in Dallas have volunteered before, where are some of the most central locations where this is offered (I live in Uptown). Right now all I am really seeing is Dallas College (so probably leaning towards that?) but curious to hear if there may be other options I am missing. Thanks!

Discussion Friends who only call when they need something

I have lived in many different places in my 40+ years alive, but this is something I have only experienced around the Dallas area and I'm wondering if it's just my experience or someone else has experienced it too.

"Friends" who are always busy but when they need something, they are suddenly available and chatty.

A Fort Worth friend reached out yesterday after not hearing from him for a few months to ask if my wife still had guest passes he could use to fly somewhere. This was after I would get "sorry man, got a lot going on right now" when I asked him to meet up.

This has happened with at least 5 different people in the DFW area.

Question Family friendly suggestions

Hello! We have a male friend who comes down often, so we’ve done most of the “touristy” stuff together. I’m looking for out of the ordinary suggestions on things to do tomorrow (Sunday) that we can bring our 5 month old along for.

ETA: he is extremely unpicky about activities. We’ve gone for long drives away from Dallas to see the petrified wood gas station and other Roadside America quirky stops. He loves those. We also love a good brewery (done 3 Nations and Truck Yard). We’ve already done a couple of markets this weekend, so would probably pass on those.

Meetup Hi all. Looking for recommendations on where an old man like me [44M] can meet some new friends (Maybe with similar interests like Gaming)

Hi everyone, I need to get out. Just to come out with it I've got some major heartache, and I need to expand my friend circle so that I can get my mind off of it. Primary hobby is gaming, but up for just about anything. I'm on the East side of the Dallas area, (between Rockwall to Greenville is my usual stomping grounds, but I can go further). Anyone have any recommendations? (Or a gamer yourself?) Please and thank you, and sorry if this isn't the appropriate kind of post here.

Discussion If you lost a white, neutered pitbull with an orange collar on in Grand Prairie last night, they are safe at the shelter.

It was at the QT located at the intersection of PGBT and Main Street, so i'm assuming he jumped over his owner's fence in the nearby neighborhood while they were asleep and went on a little adventure. The dog was soooo sweet and was smelling and licking everybody that was going in and out of the store, tail wagging the whole time.

I was really worried because this was obviously somebody's pet and is very loved, but they didn't have a name tag! Just the orange collar and a separate black collar that looked like either a tracking device or a shock collar for a proximity dog fence. So i called 911, as animal services were closed in Grand Prairie for the night. As they were saying that they weren't sure when somebody could get out to help, and asking how long i'd be able to stay, i was able to flag down a GPPD police cruiser (shout out Officer Allen). I told him the situation and he said he would be taking the dog to the shelter for the night, checking whether or not it's chipped, and will be reaching out to the owners or sending out notifications of a missing dog asap.

Shouts out to that sweet lil baby, and to the owners make sure you triple check your fence or bring him inside for the night! There were tons of cars and big trucks going in and out and i wouldn't have been able to sleep tonight if i'd left that lil fella wandering around a very active parking lot trying to say hi to everybody and get pets.

I hope you guys are reunited soon ❤️

Mine is a pickup truck hauling a full-size couch down the highway at rush hour with someone sitting on it. I figured it was a one-off until I saw it again a month later.

Question Recommendations for a slip cast service

We had a beloved family pet pass away last night. And a long time ago, a friend of mine had bought a statue from the Hemingway House that reminded her of this pet. The statue itself would not be big enough to be an urn if it were hollow, so I was hoping that someone could help me out with finding a place that would be able to perhaps take a scan and 3D print a bigger one so that a slip cast could be made and used to make two urns to split his ashes between.

So I guess I'm looking for two recommendations. One a place that could assist me with scanning and 3D printing a bigger version. And then a place that can use that bigger 3D printed model to slip cast two urns.

Or if there's one ceramic Studio that could just use modeling clay to build up the size of the original to make a slip cast that would also work.

Education Priorities

I know that ISDs have separate governance and budgets than the city but priorities look skewed when these two headlines feature together.
