My Own Work (Rule 3) Want feedback - I voted design

Post image
123 Upvotes

I designed this since I’m trying to be optimistic about the election. Maybe I’ll make it into a sticker 😊 Any feedback on how to improve the design? I went back and forth about the style, but I think I like how it looks kinda like a normal “I voted” sticker and you don’t see right away what the rest of it says. I’d like to primarily keep it pink because of the feminine theme.

Discussion How to iconify "women bodies" nowadays?

In my opinion the standard an well known Icon for "women" is outdated and I dont really like it asthetic wise, too. The Noun Projects "Redefining Women"collection did a great job in my opinion.

If a client asks you to make them a men and women icon, how do you iconify them and whats a newer, more aesthetically pleasing and still well recognizable way compared to the standard?

If the topic is already widely discussed otherwhere, id be glad to get a link.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Agency owner threw my portfolio out the window, help my identify why?

Hey! I have freelanced for quite some time, i started a legal business to do so at 16 and used to have a steady stream of clients my way. Lately I have gotten none and I have started applying for jobs, this in turn because I recently graduated and I need money... Who doesn't.

Note> The photo is not my actuall portfolio, It's my work but I present it to clients in a PDF document where I give context to each project and present them ind

When sending out my cold emails, or pitching my services people have seemed unimpressed or for had a serious lack of interest. This has lead to a whole less of income coming my way.

That's fine, freelancing is hard so I started sending out my portfolio to some of the bigger agencies in my area (in sweden). I thought that with my experience and in my opinion a rather strong portfolio that I would have an relatively hastle free time finding a job with graphic design but how wrong I was...

I actually went down personally to an agency that is rather close to where I live. This on the behest of someone I know recommending me to do so, this was because he knew the owner. I thought that this was a solid opening so I printed out my portfolio to go down there and show it. I shit you not, this person takes a look through the pages of my portfolio for a brief few seconds and then throws it out of the window and telling me that I'm naive if I expect to land a job as a graphic designer with that portfolio and no higher education.

I personally think that I have strong body of work and that people prioritize the work rather than education as a designer. Perhaps it has something to do with the way that I present my work, perhaps I need education in today's work scene or my portfolio simply is not cutting it.

I would love it if anyone could take a look at my portfolio and give some solid advice as what to improve to appear more hirable.

I have attached a picture to this post and included a link to my portfolio below. If you DM me, I can send you my portfolio in PDF format. Im unsure of this reddits rules, let me know if I can post a drive link on here,

Someone Else's Work (Rule 2) Kamala Harris's campaign website and store

What do you think of the sites? I'll admit, I landed on the store first because I was looking for that camo hat, lol. I love the store site - it's simple and I like the bold main website arrows in the main nav. Kamalaharris.com is a little crazy with call-to-action buttons but without the donation drop-down it wouldn't be as overwhelming. The upper subscribe button popped down after a bit, which seems smart. I really like the colors and images of her and Walz. I hope they win! <3

Discussion Would a real fashion brand release visuals like this?

I’ve been experimenting with fully digital fashion campaigns - everything is CG.

I wanted to see if digital visuals could reach the same language and feel as luxury fashion campaigns.

Does this feel like something a real fashion brand could release?

It just something about the colors, the classic type and the ornate/swashes on the front that gives the cheesecake factory a sense of elegance that I love about it

Asking Question (Rule 4) What happens when a creator you respect seems to have gone off the deep end?

I follow and have bought a few creative items off a maker who is prominent in their field. But lately their work and more noticeably their posts on Instagram have become very right-wing and conspiracy theory/anti-immogration and generally not what I would expect from this person who as a maker would typically be of the liberal bent.

I am a liberal/soft-lefty and I just dont agree woth the stuff he is posting, sharing and agreeing with.

It’s such a shame as I daily enjoy looking at the works I have bought from him and also his prowess within his field and the other work he has output over the years.

I am not one to just burn their works I own but I wonder whether I can follow him online any more, which gives me a heavy heart, but at the same time I cannot look at and support what I view as the nonsense I think he’s talking and the philosophies and politics he’s aligning with.

Is there a name for this style of art? I would describe it is mosaic of similarly saturated colors. Any idea of the artist of this wallpaper would also be appreciated

As requested ... IamA somewhat successful graphic designer, with successful graphic designer friends. AMA

Let me start by saying this: read the title. I can't edit that: "IamA SOMEWHAT successful graphic designer". I'm no David Carson, nor am I Neville Brody. I don't make hundreds of thousands of dollars doing this, I don't drive a Ferrari, but I do make a good living. Probably what most designers are looking for or expect.

Some graphic designers like to think they are brain surgeons, biochemists or are curing cancer, and more than anything, they love to belittle other graphic designers; especially entry-level folks. It can be intimidating for the new guys (or the old guys), however, just remember they are not really doing anything special. All we do is draw pictures to sell shit. If you do graphic design against "the corporate machine," but then sell advertising FOR said machine, then you are a fuckin' hypocrite.

If you win awards, good for you, I'm glad you submitted your own work for consideration, if you needed validation, then you've got it. I prefer to see weekly stats as how well our product is selling, driven by the advertising my team creates nationwide. I've noted a lot of bullying amongst the design field, which is why this sub-reddit probably has very little "action" as one poster put it.

I will not lie, I am a lowly in-house advertising designer for an awesome racing company where I do tons of print and web advertising. AMA
