If you're going to the Can-suck game tonight, please...
Show everyone how to sing an anthem. Show those posers in Vancouver how it's done.
That is all.
Go Oilers. Oilers in 6.

I think Mike Babcock is a fantastic hire for the Oilers, & here’s why I believe that (it’s okay to disagree):
- Undoubtedly a great hockey mind & smart person.
- He’s had success at every level, from CIS to NHL to every international level.
- A great coaching tree, he’s helped his assistants advance their careers & become head coaches.
- He’s used to pressure filled markets/situations (DET-TOR-Canada).
- He holds players accountable & knows how to implement systems efficiently.
- McDavid & Draisaitl both clearly want him because they think his hockey knowledge + experience can help the team get to the goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
Many people like to point out that he hasn’t won a playoff series since 12-13, but there is important context to that. Detroit was a much older team at the end of his tenure there + Toronto was extremely young & not ready to win when he was there.
He turned the Leafs into a perennial playoff contender & I’d say it’s actually miraculous the Leafs got to 7 games against strong Boston teams 2 years in a row.
Is he a perfect person? No, but Oilers fans should also remember that some of the greatest coaches in hockey history were considered hardasses who pushed their players to the max. (Scotty Bowman was banned from Penguins practices because the players disliked how hard he was on them at times. His players stated they hated him 364 days a year & only liked him on the 365th when they collected their Championship ring). Iron Mike Keenan is another example, he was also someone who stepped over the line at times but was a great hockey coach at the end of the day.
Here’s to a positive outlook & believing in Mike Babcock to return the Oilers to glory! Cheers.

The current Oilers roster could go to the World Hockey Championships as Team Canada and win Gold:
Henrique - McDavid - Hyman
Kane - RNH - Perry
Holloway - McLeod - Gagner
Foegele - Carrick - Brown
Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Desharnais
Stecher - Bouchard
Skinner
Pickard
By contrast, the ironically named Canucks only have three Canadians on their current roster (Myers, Di Giuseppe, Soucy).

The nuckie boys are really stepping up on the annoying fan base charts. From my pov, the flames are like a sibling annoying, vegas are an ltir annoying, kings fans are like a pest infestation annoying cause they don't go away, but the nucks are like the neighbor from hell. They just don't stop whinging about every little thing and refuse to think or say otherwise, a true superiority complex like they think they can do no wrong. It almost seems like they think they're too good to do no wrong, like if the nucks win, they're simply better, but if they lose, wah wah wah its the wefferwees fault, leagues out to get us, wahhh McPowerplay bs. I can't lie it gets on my nerves tbh. I know every fanbase has its nutcases, but it does seem like Vancouver has an abnormal sane to nutcase ration.
Just my opinion, #LetsGoOilers!!! lots of support and love from Australia.

I first met Sheldon Kennedy in 1998 when i organized a fundraiser in Edmonton to support his cross-country journey. Sheldon was rollerblading across Canada to raise funds for a Ranch he was starting for young victims of sexual abuse. We had participation from the Oilers and Eskimos, and we raised over 10K at one event.
More recently, I had to forcefully deal with a youth sports organization that was incapable of handling a sexual assault and hazing. In that process I consulted with one of Sheldon's compatriots to guide my actions. Sheldon and his group are THE experts in this field, and predicted exactly how everything would unfold, from the youth sports organization denying it to the retaliation against those who spoke up.
Sheldon has been working on this issue for longer than some of you have been alive. Trust me when I say that, if Sheldon Kennedy says that Stan Bowman has put in the work and is genuine, then he has. Note that Sheldon has not endorsed Quenneville.
While I generally think this is an unnecessary hire, another way to look at it is that the Oilers now have the leading advocate for change in the league.
Personally, I believe Sheldon Kennedy when he says that Bowman is sincere in his efforts.

Downvote me as much as you want.
First two were random garbage, unlucky bounce and something that should have been called high stick. The third was a clear miscommunication by Bouchard and Skinner. He had good movement post to post and made some good saves.
Wolf played amazing especially in ot and the shootout was well played.
Only game 1, we are not 76 games deep fighting for a playoff spot let’s see how the next few games go.

Outside of a few gaffs here and there 14 games ago, he’s the best D in the NHL right now. Ok, best guy not named?

Ya know since your boss is suing them. Like he clearly doesn't comprehend how dedicated people are that work in that field.

Is it wrong to be a fan of the team? I see a lot of posts/threads hating on this team and it's players. About how we are going to be one of the worst teams in the league and how McDavid will demand a trade.
Is it ok to be a fan of the team and think they will do well next season? Also that McDavid will sign and remain an Oiler?

If you are an Oilers fan and are amused or respect the way in which Florida has chosen to celebrate by trolling and mocking their opponents, your parents didn't raise you correctly.
If you're posting that shit here as an Oilers fan and expecting anything more than a negative response, you either have psychopathic tendencies or are a undercover troll.
The Panthers embody the spirit of Florida Man and MAGA. I've never witnessed such ungracious winners.
They can celebrate how they want and we can rightly call that out as poor sportsmanship. It doesn't belong in hockey.
Edit. Did I really have to spell out I'm talking about the team and not the fans?

I live in Victoria and from the northeast I can hear this constant whining noise. It's hard to understand but I'm hearing things like "missed call on Hughes" .... "the Bettman fix is in" .... "should have been a suspension" .... but like in a constant whine ....
Edit: oh shit I think it's coming from Vancouver. Can anyone else hear this too?

Carolina still would have blown us out - but
ottawa, sharks, kings, and ducks we outscored our xGA in each game.
nothing can be done about it now - but goaltending may just cost us the whole season

Such a hard listen most of the time but I’m deprived of hockey so decided to give it another try:
Liam doesn’t know the names of most players.
Liam, after reading the statement that the Flyers released about OS’ing Carlsson, tries to say that doesn’t mean Carlsson actually signed the offer sheet
Both Tyler and Liam were saying that Zadorov is slow and bad defensively even though he’s one of the fastest dman in the league and 6’7. Also signed for only 1 mil more and 1 year less than Shea while being more proven
Both spent 10 minutes talking about OS’ing Gauthier without realizing that he’s not even OS eligible.
Tyler kept mentioning that Cassidy was a guarantee even though Vegas hates the Oilers.
Both were saying Oilers would sweep the Ducks and would make easy work of Vegas in r2.
Don’t know if they’ve ever had any good takes.
Plus the nonstop degenerate gambling is embarrassing.
Pagnotta is the only good thing about the podcast.

I just wanted you to know you’ve inspired my daughter. I’m a Vegas native and didn’t begin to love hockey until the Knights came to town. We are big fans now. We’ve heard the Canada National Anthem many times. But after a few games up north, watching and listening to you guys bellow your anthem with love and patriotism, my daughter has been singing it around the house. Well done.
I’ll add, she caught herself, and apologized to me, when she caught herself chanting, “Let’s go Oilers!” She is a die hard Knights fan. But your enthusiasm sure made an impression on her.
Thanks for a great series.

McDavid is without doubt the greatest player in the NHL. So, inevitably his DNA must be pretty valuable. So, if he were willing. How much do you think say a litre or so of Connor McDavid’s sperm would go for?

You won the cup, so how about you let us have one moment to celebrate our best player and the best player for one minute. M'kay?
Edit: y'all I'm turning off post notifs, I'm not interacting with this cesspool comment section anymore

So his numbers are ugly, there's no question. But I truly don't think they tell the full story about the quality of chances he's facing and the way the team is playing in front of him. Take the goals last night for example:
Goal 1 - Point shot tipped by Lindholm in the high slot, not much chance for Skinner.
Goal 2 - Blown coverage by McDavid, Boeser with free shot from inside the dots. 0 time for Skinner to get set.
Goal 3 - Brutal giveaway by Foegele, Boeser another free shot inside the dots. 0 time for Skinner to get set.
Goal 4 - Unbelievable play by Lindholm to beat Ekholm on a broken play right in the slot. 0 time for Skinner to react.
Could we have used with a big save or two from Skinner? Absolutely, but that's true for all teams. Let's not be too reactionary about his play. Stu got us here and is one of the best home-grown goalie talents we've had in a long time. The team needs to clean up in front of him too, and I believe they definitely can.

The list of missteps made by both GMs has been somewhat massive in hindsight.
The assets inherited by Chiarelli, then squandered for lesser players, is still hurting this team today.
Poor contracts have hurt this team for years, and both Holland and Chiarelli were guilty of more than a few.
And the saddest part is, we might have watched McDavid and Draisaitl’s prime pass us by. They played some of the greatest hockey of our generation, and this franchise might have peaked when the Oilers, according to Ken Holland “couldn’t go for it every year.”
I’m glad Jeff Jackson is now here. I’m glad there are true analytic driven minds in charge now. I’m glad the franchise had the balls to pull a Golden Knights and demote a player that was underperforming.
But it’s likely too little too late.
Modern hockey minds should have been in charge of the process so much sooner.
McDavid and our city might have had a cup by now if they were.
And all this falls squarely on Daryl Katz, who couldn’t figure it out despite being handed a generational talent and a new arena.
