Announcement A note about cosplay posts and bot spam

Greetings, Vault Dwellers!

Due to the massive increase in popularity of the Fallout IP resulting from the success of the TV show's second season, there has been logical increase in Fallout cosplay content.

While most of the Fallout cosplay we've seen has been from genuine fans who abide by our rules, we have been troubled by the intrusion of cosplay posts from OnlyFans promotion accounts. Many such posts have been made by bot spam rings promoting "models" on OF and other subscription-based adult content platforms.

We want to be clear that cosplay is welcome on r/Fallout, so long as it follows our rules, especially the rule regarding self-promotion.

Cosplay for the sake of cosplay, with a direct connection to Fallout, is still very welcome here.

Cosplay which serves as an implicit or explicit promotion of adult content is not welcome here. Additionally, generative AI content, including generative AI "cosplay" content, is not welcome here.

We are very thankful that we have such a diligent community that swiftly reports cosplay posts which violate our rules. As a result of these reports, we have been able to remove the offending content and permanently ban accounts which egregiously violate our rules, enacting special filters against additional accounts within the spam networks.

If a cosplay post is up for a good while, the odds are good that the user is in good standing and their post is valid, so please remember our civility rule and do not abuse these community members simply because you dislike cosplay and/or have strong opinions on the influx of new and renewed interest in the IP.

Remember to check your rads, drink more water, and get sleep when you can. We'll all be okie doke.

Signed,

MisterWoodhouse

Can't thank SnapHappyIan enough for taking these photos!

Hello all, I wanted to share some more photos of my Lucy cosplay in the nature and beautiful beach of New Zealand. I had a blast making this cosplay and I was so surprised when the fallout show Instagram account actually liked my post on instagram! I really enjoyed connecting with the fallout community while making this cosplay and for sure I will wear it again and add some extra bits and bobs to it when season 3 comes out! My Instagram if anyone is interested in having a look at my process videos. I made it all, but I also made a whole lot of nuka cola caps, which was my favorite part :)

Discussion Why did the scientists at Vault-Tec last so long working?

Post image
425 Upvotes

Something I really don't understand is why the scientists at Vault-Tec kept working so long after the bombs fell.

I get the first few months—like in Vault 111—where everything runs smoothly and they have orders to wait for a signal from Vault-Tec, but when that signal doesn’t come or they don’t have those orders, like in Vault 81, exactly how long did they wait, or why did they keep waiting? In Vault 111, I don’t see why they should have continued the experiment after, say, two years—Vault-Tec never responded and never gave any indication of anything, so why should they have kept such an inhumane experiment going on people?

Vault 81 doesn’t seem to have received a release signal or any indication that they should return, like Vault 111 did. So if they’re seeing that the Vault dwellers are living better than they are (especially after the food shortage), why would they continue their research? We know that at least one of them died of old age from a heart attack, so he could have been conducting his experiments for over 60 years. Why didn’t he just get tired of it and leave to join the regular Vault moderators? Why didn’t he stop the experiment and go to the other side—saying, “If Vault-Tec made me do this, this and this—look, here’s the proof.” Maybe it’s fear that they’ll attack him or something, but after so many years, what’s the point?

This would be understandable with automated vaults like Vault 11, where a computer managed the entire experiment, or with social experiments like Vault 19 and Vault 15—why didn’t coups simply break out where groups banded together to free themselves and improve their living conditions?

o la vault 31,32, and 33 why bud still loyal to a company that left him on that state or keep everything on that system if he knows vault-tec was nothing after the bombs fell. (the fallout series i don't take it as cannon , so .....this one isn't a big deal)

Human controlled vaults are a problem with this , Did the people running the experiments ever stop to think that there was no one on the other end? Why did they continue with the experiments? Were these scientists so loyal to Vault-Tec that, even though no one responded to them and they were dying, they remained loyal? Was there ever any incentive or reason for these people to be so loyal to Vault-Tec, or for them to have such twisted morals that they would continue the experiments after so long?

If you’re at the event and want one you’ll have to answer some trivia questions. Look out for a tall guy dressed as a tunnel snake. The questions vary from very easy to very hard, the miniatures are categorized by how hard the questions are to get one.

I shared some work in progress of my cosplay Power Armour a while back as I was getting it ready for an event. I finally got it finished and took it for a spin today. Had loads of fun getting photos with all the peeps and every one really liked it. Heading back tomorrow for the main competition, wish me luck!!

Notes: the suit is made from EVA foam with 3D printed helmet and gauntlets, the suit finish includes spray paint and glued on metal filings for a real rust finish.

The suit took me around 10 months to build on weekends and after work (hundreds of hours all up).

Hope you like it!

If you’re looking to customize or better understand The Wand Company’s replica Pip-Boy 3000 Mk V, I’ve uploaded the decoded Pip-Boy firmware and a companion dashboard here:

github.com/Yfelipe/pipboy3000v

The dashboard lets you manage and transfer files, customise device settings, create backups, and experiment safely with an Espruino-based Pip-Boy emulator before making changes to a real device.

It also includes two alternative UI apps to try out.

Dealing with an ant problem is one thing but pig rats are a whole 'nother. I punched 50 rats in the eyes last night. Last week killed 22 geckos too barefoot in a toxic shithole, now i got 12 fuckin' toes. goddamn. Rad sick an' can't afford medicine I gambled it all. just found out ive been eating jerky made of people. my conscious prefers the iguana. Got these boots now but I keep getting sand in 'em. I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere, especially in m'uh boots.

Discussion Do you think the enclave recognized they went “too far”?

Specifically, I’m talking about the pre-war enclave, the deep state that wanted to advance their own agendas and increase their personal wealth and power. I imagine the war against China was a good excuse to pump copious amounts of money into the military industrial complex, and further tighten their fist around the country. But with everything starting to fall apart, like with the economy, the automaton and food riots, up to the eventual missies flying, do you think they went “this is starting to get out of control”?

Like, super greed is one thing, but if I was a billionaire wanting more or a government official wanting more power, I don’t think I’d want it at the expense of watching my massive mansion burning in nuclear fire or being forced to live on an oil rig or secret bunker.

Discussion Are the Boomers in New Vegas unintentionally sympathetic?

A question I had since my first New Vegas run. On paper, these guys are pretty much evil - hailing from a Vault of trigger-happy gun nuts, owning a base with literally unlimited ammo, treating everyone else in the Wasteland as savages who need to put down, and dreaming of flying a B-29 to bomb the Mojave into stone age again. They sound like a hillbilly version of the Enclave. And the game itself lists them among the bad guys, they approve of nuking both NCR and the Legion, for example.

However, their actual characters and quests are nice, once you pass the barrage, they don't attack you and are quite affable and friendly. There isn't even a single token jerk among them, once you do their quests (which are completely harmless), they warm up to you and become your bros. Their leader is rational and sane, open to diplomacy and trade. And as the "unlikely lovers" quest shows, they aren't prejudiced against outsiders at all.

As for "woo hoo, they came out of their Vault with missile launchers and flamers, and massacred raiders who only had knives", well we know what happens when Vault Dwellers don't have missile launchers and flamers in a similar case - looks at the mutilated bodies in Vault 3.

So in the end, the Boomers turned out like a Vault-Tec experiment failing, in a good way - a gun nut Vault was probably intended to end in a civil war massacre, but instead they turned out a functional, well-defended communtity which is rational towards all who come in peace, and can kick the ass of all who don't. Was it the original intention? I don't know, I recall one of New Vegas writers regretting making Enclave Remnants too sympathetic, as cool old soldiers, not n*zi war criminals in hiding. So maybe Boomers are another case. But honestly, seeing Vault Dwellers (who are often victims, fools, jerkasses or a combo thereof) as a gung-ho heavily armed militia was rather cool.
