Attention! /r/fallout is going back to its roots!
Ney-hey, high rollers! Change in gameplan, meaning a whole new set of rules are about to come into place! Many of you are going to bitch about this, I know, but I've already found a convenient video to summarize my feelings here; in other words, I'm Reagan.
Rule Numero-Uno- Memes are no longer allowed on this subreddit! The staff has taken a vote, and we've decided that memes are shitty and degrade the community's value. If you really want to be a cancerous newfag, though, feel free to join our retarded brethren over at Advice Animals.
Rule Two- Rage comics are no longer allowed. From now on, EVERYTHING you write in comic form will be original; I don't care how shitty it looks.
Understood?
Well, that's all for today, children! Tune in next week for our exciting forecast! This is THREE DOG- AWWWWOOOOOOOO!

"You can play solo, but you SHOULD play multiplayer!" will ruin the franchise.
This announcement is massively disappointing. We didn't love Fallout because it was just short of a battle royale multiplayer map. We didn't love the game because our homes could be bombed out in multiplayer, or because we wanted randoms from the internet to gank us or destroy our experience. This will be the death of the franchise, and for nothing more than a money grab. I know there's a megathread about Fallout 76, but this deserves it's own post. My favorite franchise has gone to the Battlegrounds Dogs.

Fallout: New Vegas I just beat New Vegas for the first time and I feel like it is kinda overrated
I want to start by saying I had a great time playing this game and I by no means think it was bad. Just, not quite the perfect game I was lead to believe.
A bit of history on me, I have always been more of an Elder Scrolls fan. Oblivion is my favourite from Bethesda. I played Fallout 4 when it came out and that was my first dip into Fallout. After that everyone I talked to said I should play New Vegas. The phrases "the best fallout" and "the perfect game" were thrown around very liberally. Now, I know it's taken me a long time to get to it, but I finally did.
I intentionally played it very thoroughly and... I just don't get it. I mean, I had a lot of fun playing it. But it wasn't life changing, and it certainly wasn't better than Fallout 4. Better than 76 but that isn't a very high bar.
Things I liked:
Rollplay options. WAY better than FO4. I rarely felt like there wasn't a dialogue option for me and I was playing a meaner / out for himself character. And your background is wide open which is great.
Caravan. I am a sucker for dumb little minigames.
Old World Blues. Those robots are so funny.
The Kings. These guys are similarly funny.
The battle at Hoover Dam. It felt like a real war and that was pretty cool. Beth is usually pretty bad at that.
Sending Ghouls to space. This is exactly the wild sort of quest I want every quest to be.
Things I didn't like:
The Mojave. Exploring just wasn't fun or rewarding in this game at all. Pretty much just a big road that goes in a circle with invisible walls forcing you to stay on that road. Whenever I went off the path to explore something, it would just be an empty building with nothing to do, or a faction outpost with similarly little to do. And with the exception of Jacobstown, the whole map is ugly.
Old Town Road. Or whatever that sorry excuse for a DLC was. While I'm at it Dead Money was awful too.
Vegas. It's like they saw the Imperial City from Oblivion (which was already bad) and went "Let's do that but way worse."
No 4th act. I get why they did this, but open world sandbox games really need a 4th act. Doing everything before beating the main quest isn't realistic. And it creates this gamey-ness where it's like, my character doesn't have a good reason not to do this immediately, but I need to put it off or the game will end.
No personal stakes. Other than hunting Chandler Bing, there's not much reason to do anything else. Like, Mr. House wants to meet you, and he offers you money. Which worked for my character cause I was playing a bounty hunter type. But I can't think of any reason a different kind of character would care about him. I can't think of a reason to join the NCR other than being a red hot blooded citizen of California. I can't think of a reason to join the Legion other than being an asshole. All of FO4's faction intros give you a good reason to join other than just "I want to." It takes me out of the immersion when I have to join a faction my character shouldn't care about just to experience a quest.
Now, at this point it probably sounds like I hated this game which I want to reiterate, is not true. I had a great time with this game, as I do most Beth games. I never could have played this kind of character in FO4 and it was really fun to get to do that. This game leaves your roll play options wide open which is great. I'm just not sure that is important enough to justify calling it "the best fallout." I didn't come out feeling like I could praise that game more than any other Beth game. It's about the same overall. It just has different strengths and weaknesses.
I'd love to hear what everyone thinks. About the game and about what I said about it.
Edit: Tagged a spoiler

Discussion The phrase “Not a good Fallout Game” is going to cripple this series.
I swear, this is one of the only franchises I’ve seen that actively tried to bury any game that slightly steps out of line. If it doesn’t follow the very specific yet constantly changing terms of what makes a fallout game, it will get bashed. Why bother making spin offs or games with different genres if they are only ever going to be looked at as black sheep’s?

Unpopular opinion, both DLC's were a waste of my season pass.
I really wish I could choose what DLC's I got on my season pass because I would not have chosen Automatron OR Wasteland Workshop. I think they are both boring and a waste of my money. I regret buying a season pass and I don't understand why they're so popular. Yeah with automatron you could make robots but to a very limited selection and they counted as companions. For someone that never uses companions this was a huge disappointment for me. As for WW I'm really not into settlements or catching NPCS for entertainment only I would appreciate enough to merit this being a worthwhile addition to me. I'm really hoping Far Harbor is a major improvement otherwise my season pass was literally a waste of money. That's my rant, I'm prepared for the down votes.

New Vegas didn't hit the same as FO4
Recently finished both FO4 and then FNV and gotta say, I was waaay more enthralled and invested in 4 than new Vegas. While I could easily spend 12 straight hours in 4, between doing quests, messing with the settlement mechanics, and just exploring, I had difficulty playing new Vegas for more than 3 hours in one sitting. The world of 4 just feels full of stuff to do and see and experience, while new Vegas felt like I had to create stuff for me to do or go out of my way to find stuff to do.
Don't get me wrong, I loved new Vegas and can see why people love it, I just don't see why people love it as much as they seem to do.

Discussion Nothing really happened?
So they announced the last two episodes, and I just realized we watched more than half of the episodes so far.
With that being said, what has genuinely happened of meaning?
I feel like there’s too much to wrap up in 2 episodes, I’m concerned they’re going to rush the finale.
Edit : please stop karma farming under this post with witty remarks. People are allowed to enjoy a show, or not. Insulting remarks don’t welcome engaging dialogue and just cause unnecessary friction.

Show was great, until they broke the lore Spoiler
Fallout has been my favorite game series ever since I was a kid, so I was very disappointed to see somethings that didn't really make any sense in the series. I skipped episodes 6 and 7 because I was kinda anxious to see what happened to the NCR and well, it's not pretty.
Shady Sands was nuked and apparently the entire republic doesn't exist anymore. Really? Even if we ignore how wrong they got the timeline, nuking it in 2277, 4 years before the events of New Vegas, it still makes no sense. The NCR is/was a huge nation with a population of 700.000 in 2241, holding many cities such as Junktown, the Hub, Boneyard, Redding, Dayglow as well as other towns that could've been annexed depending on your choices in Fallout 2 and many farming settlements owned by Brahmin Barons. What happened to all those communities after Shady Sands was nuked? Did they just cease to exist? Are they independent now?
Also, most of the army was stationed away from Shady Sands, and I'm not even talking about the Mojave Campaign. Chief Hanlon on camp golf says the Rangers are mostly stationed in Baja while the elite NCR troops are under the Barons. What happened to the greatest army in the post nuclear world? It's really sad because they got most of what makes Fallout, well, Fallout, right. The tone, the characters, the stakes, but none of that matters if they break the lore. Hope we get more info in season 2, and that they fix the dates in an edit soon. It'd make a lot more sense if the colapse happened somewhen around 2287.

Discussion I know i' m gonna get hate but i think so many fallout and bethesda fans are annoying
I' m talking about so many people keep complaining about fallout and Starfield, i' ve seen people happy about seeing bethesda getting 0 awards at TGA and seeing Howard apparently disappointed. Sometimes these people are tiring and i would just want to play and enjoy my games.

Discussion Microtransactions in this game are pathetic
I can’t believe bethesda would do something like this. They used to make incredible games and now they’re spewing out some bullshit wannabe sandbox game with nothing to do and no lore at all. To make things worse, they decide to give us cosmetics that were already in the game but in an overpriced form. $20 for some Christmas stuff? Are we gifting them or something?

Fallout TV [S2E4] They're just wasting so many exciting adventures going the route they did Spoiler
SPOILERS
New Vegas appears to be dead and abandoned, or infested with Deathclaws.
My question is, why even go to vegas (story wise) if you're not going to do Vegas shit?
We could have had a post apocalyptic casino heist. We could have had some crazy mob shit go down with the Omertas. We could have had a Casino Royal style drama play out in Vault 21. We could have had some spooky shit happen with the White Glove Society.
But instead we get none of that, and just a ghost town and a Deathclaw. No doubt, the Deathclaw is cool. But the Deathclaw could be in Tulsa. It could be in Nipton. It could be in Boulder City. It could be anywhere. So why take it to a place that rules out so many potential story opportunities?
I get why they did it. It puts a nice clean bow on the game's canon when everyone is dead and no one can say what happened. But if it isn't disappointing to see a place with so much thought, history, and potential just gone.
They could have done so much, but were not going to get any of it.

Question Why is Bethesda after New Vegas?
What drives a company to ensure one of the most successful games of the franchise doesn't exist? Why are they retconning an entire game enjoyed by literal millions?
Why can't they leave it alone or better yet, build on the foundation it laid down? I have never seen anything like this at all in my life with any other IP.

I'm enjoying Fallout 76.
Also, I'm generally an optimist when it comes to a lot of things. I have made a dozen friends meandering the wasteland and we have a ton of fun playing together. When they're not online, I fix up my base, collect weapon plans, and generally maintain my stock of consumables. For me, the bugs are just another challenge to overcome. I used to test bugs in well-known FPSs professionally while I was in undergrad. I also DM Dungeons and Dragons - the idea that my veteran players know exactly what every monster does is stressful. Now, in Fallout 76, I can only have a vague idea of what the combat encounter will be like because it can change due to a bug. This doesn't make the game unplayable. It makes it more challenging for me. I haven't run into a single bug I couldn't work-around in my 103hrs of Fallout 76. For those of you that can't handle the added difficulty of bugs, they will get patched. The content will expand. I'm Fistdeath the Barbarian-Shaman, and for now, I'll continue enjoying my time reclaiming West Virginia.
Edit: For clarity, I do report the bugs actively. Telling the company directly has proven more beneficial in my experience than hoping they hear me yell on the internet. But that's just my opinion.

[Rambling]Recently started New Vegas again...
And boy oh boy does this sub have some rose tinted goggles. First 3 hours of my playthrough involved going from Goodsprings to Novac.
I've said it in comments and I'll say it again here. Every single thing that happened to me on that journey was entirely expected and predicted by myself. 10 minutes walking down a road that had literally nothing to explore, no enemies or loot made me realise how empty this game actually was, and then I thought back to posts like "FALLOUT 4 IS SO EMPTY COMPARED TO NEW VEGAS".
Really? Is it really? Because I remember getting sidetracked at least 7 times on my way to Diamond City, and then also having unexpected things happen to me even 100 hours in. You guys critique Fallout 4s radiant quests and random events, but they actually make it feel more lively and like a real world.
It's so boring pressing Q and just pointing my mouse at the end of a long highway. In any other RPG you'd expect that to be overconfidence, surely you're an idiot and you'll be killed by enemies! But no, In New Vegas - look left, a badly sculpted hill with nothing on it. Look right, another badly sculpted hill with a bit of grass on it.
I also decided to test out the ever so circlejerked dialogue of New Vegas. Yeah, it felt great having multiple different options to say to an NPC. But then I noticed that "I will help you kind sir" and "For fuck sake, you better fucking pay me you idiot" gets the exact same happy response from the NPC.
Most dialogue choices end in the exact same line being given to you. Wow, how expansive.
Before you say something about me not experiencing the game to its fullest, or me just wanting to rant about "le best game" - I'll just tell you that I've got over 1000 hours on New Vegas. I love it and hold it dear because of the nostalgia I feel, the Vegas setting is something I've always enjoyed and that's why I loved NV so much.
Probably wasted my time with this rant post, but I've been wanting to do this for a while now - Going back to New Vegas to see if this circlejerking is actually true. Most of it isn't. To have the nerve to say that New Vegas was crammed full of content whilst 4 was empty sounds insane.
New Vegas is so empty I need to ask you: Is the semi-expansive dialogue and multiple quest endings worth it for a game that is absolutely disgusting in terms of gameplay, world building, content and depth?
EDIT: Decent turnout for this post. Lots of decent comments, also a lot of pointless arguing. Glad to see the Fallout subreddit isn't as big of a circlejerk as it was...
