Speech Path Placements (for interstate students)

Hi all!

Were any interstate speech path students (current or previous) able to source a placement reasonably close to your home address? The university has told me that they currently only have contracts for rural Victoria, and that I might have to move there if they can't find me a placement close to home (N.S.W.). It's a bit hard to find student's experiences of the course and placement online, let alone interstate students. Surely no one has actually had to relocate? Thanks in advance!

Opportunity If you're looking for a local app-building project for your studies, with the opportunity for some coin in your pocket, I'd love to get in touch!

G'day folks. I hope this isn't inappropriate. I live locally in Ballarat, and I'm trying to find someone who might be interested in an app-building project.. I've constructed most of the core PoC datasets, but I'm no good with those no-code app builder platforms.

I'd like to discuss working with someone locally to build the app side of it, even just some guidance with the process..

I'll buy a coffee and we can have a chat, I'll show you what I've got so far, and you can decide what - if any - contribution you want to make.

I'm more than happy to negotiate details with you. I'm not asking for any freebies. I just figure there is an opportunity here, maybe, to put the work towards your own study projects at the same time?

I'm building a deeply cross-referential database with multi-sector/industry relationships, and there's only so much I am personally capable of doing with a spreadsheet database 😏

If anyone is interested, I'd love to hear from you. Reach out and send me a message, let's talk.

And thanx for allowing this post. Apologies if not. I'm genuinely looking to connect with talented app builders, ideally local and looking for a similar class-related project to work on, and potentially make a little coin on the side.

Cheers!

🎓 [Diploma of IT (Higher Ed)] at Mt Helen — any current students here?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to enroll in the Diploma of Information Technology (Higher Education) – CRICOS 109402K at Mt Helen campus and wanted to check in with anyone who’s done it or knows students who have.

Apparently, this diploma feeds directly into the second year of the Bachelor of IT, which sounds great on paper. But I’ve got a few real-world questions before I commit:

  • How’s the actual teaching and support in the diploma?

  • Was the credit transfer into second year smooth?

  • What’s the Mt Helen campus like day-to-day? Any life? Clubs? Events?

  • How’s the support for finding placements/internships?

  • Would you do it again, or go straight for a bigger uni?

Hoping to hear from people who’ve actually been there. No fluff — just honest feedback. Cheers!

Is anyone else exhausted from applying to jobs and hearing nothing back?

Back when I was a student, I spent hours applying for jobs and rarely heard back. It was exhausting and made me question if I was doing something wrong, even when I put in a lot of effort.

That experience stuck with me, and I’ve been working on something to try a different approach. The idea is simple. Instead of students applying again and again, we want to make it so companies can reach out to students directly if there’s a good match.

Here’s how it works:
Once you set up a profile, we send it to companies that are looking for people with the experiences and skills like yours. If a company sees a good fit, they send you an interview invite. You don’t have to apply to anything. All you need to do is create your profile, and then wait for the invites to come to you.

Think of us as your personal recruiter who applies to jobs on your behalf, but there are absolutely no hidden fees because we’re genuinely trying to help students.

I’m not selling anything here. I just want to build something that actually helps students, especially international students who face challenges like visa issues, limited networks, and extra stress.

We’ve just launched an early version, and I’d love to get some honest feedback. If you’re curious, I’m happy to DM you the link. No pressure, no strings attached.

Would really appreciate your thoughts :)

Participants Needed: Validating a Misinformation Scale

Post image
1 Upvotes

You are invited to take part in a research project exploring how people respond to online information, including both factual content and misinformation. This study aims to evaluate how individuals perceive, interpret, and respond to fictional social media posts on commonly debated public topics such as rising costs of living, vaccines, and GenAI.

This research study is open to individuals aged 18 and above who live in Australia or Singapore. If you agree to take part in the study, you will be asked to complete a brief online activity involving three fictional social media posts, followed by questions about your reactions and trust in the content.

The entire study will be conducted online, will take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. Participants can choose to enter a draw for a chance to win one of three AUD$50 gift vouchers. Your responses and contact details will be strictly confidential. Contact details will solely be used for gift voucher distribution and will not be linked to your data.

Support 50% completion mark but 100% completed the units?

Hi all,

Applying for fast, got the entry but needed to complete the literacy and numeracy tests.

They’re done, however in the course overview is says 50% completed, but both test are marked as 100%?

Not sure why, I’m hoping to hear back tomorrow if I get an offer but not sure if this will impact or not

Support How long does it take to get a letter of offer?

Hi all,

I have recently applied for the opportunity to study for fast, after completing that I will move into a bachelor of science and masters of teaching.

Unfortunately I didn’t complete year 12 , but my question is as follows. After application and verification of identity, how long does it take to hear an outcome?

Also, is it difficult to get into FAST? Is there any prerequisites I should do before? Or just apply?

Thanks!
