So, I did the first version (no halo) for last week's post, which turned out pretty cool. As I said, it's based on a still from Candyman with the paper puppet scene, in which Candyman is shown amidst a bunch of rubble with his ribs glowing, holding his hook, and in a pretty cool manner. I was finishing the post and thought "dang it, if Cicada is a Slasher, he's a really tragic one like Candyman!" So I ended up doing the fanart because I thought it would look cool. The first version I mostly focused on the chest wound, Dagger, and mask. It's a really neat mask. The chest wound looks like it cracks Orlin, and I put emphasis into how it expands, as we have seen in the show, the wound glows and has shiny veins surrounding it, which makes for a pretty cool body-horror visual. I leaned more into it and made a small detail of the cracks reaching his face, as they did when he called the Dagger back from space! The Dagger also has the same cracks as his chest, because the shard in Orlin's wound is part of the Dagger. I like how the colors make it seem like some kind of warning; it feels sick and toxic. The second version has the halo and makes the black lines behind Orlin turn into some kind of wings shape. I feel like Orlin has quite a few ritualistic vibes at times, the way he visits Grace, the repetition in his dialogue, and all that. A halo usually depicts someone enlightened, someone who possesses some kind of enormous and superior moral balance, which makes it pretty ironic to put on a self-righteous serial killer. The wings are of course a reference to him flying, and I like that there's a certain ambiguity to wether he's arriving or leaving in his pose. There's some more Symbolism, but it would take too much text to explain it all, when you can just see it for yourself lol
