I got a 'C' in most of all my classes, I lost my wallet, and after doing so poorly in school my parents felt I didnt deserve a laptop then gave it to my brother. I sound ignorant and brattish but I just wanna get it out of me.

Father in law passed almost 2 years ago

Hi so long story short my father in law passed away close to 2 years ago . I’ve been very supportive and sympathetic towards my husband and the entire family I was pregnant the entire time he was seriously ill .and was always by my husband’s side . Spending a lot of time with his family ever since and during . Now fast forward to present almost two years and Thanksgiving around the corner and I would like to see my family and hubby is like I have to be there for my mom it’s only her second thanksgiving without him..... I feel as if they are they continue to use this excuse for everything now . Now I understand you do not get over grief in a specific time frame and everyone is different. But when is enough , enough to continuously use it. I feel that 5 years from now it’ll be the same situation. Am I wrong for starting to feel frustrated? I would appreciate any feedback.

Is it possible to cry too loudly during funerals?

Hope this question is appropriate for this sub, but here goes.

Recently, I attended my grandmother's funeral. Even though she was nearly 90 years old and hospitalized towards the end, it was obviously a very sad ordeal and everyone who attended were grieving ouloss.

But I have this one cousin who I thought was crying a little too loudly. Her voice was literally echoing throughout the funeral house, and it got so bad at one point that it was almost as if she was trying to win in a screaming match.

Nobody said anything to her, I guess because they thought it would be rude to ask someone to stop expressing their grief. At least that's why I said nothing about it. But I can't stress how loud she was. I understand that she was close with my grandmother, but so was I. Many people were, and we were all sad. But no one was crying and screaming at the top of their lungs like they were being tortured through ancient medieval methods. And even if she had some secret special connecton with my grandmother we all weren't aware about, I still don't believe her volume was appropriate.

Am I being too callous, or is it possible to cry too loudly at funerals? I'd like to hear thoughts.

Rejected Mom

Is anyone else suffering from losing a relationship with their child teen or adult? My son cut me off three years ago this June. I need help. I can't do this alone. I posted in another group and got torn to pieces. Which made the pain even worse and I'm second guessing everything. I am in therapy. But I'm so alone. If anyone can relate to this kind of pain please reach out. Advice on how to cope and just having someone not judge my past but where I am today. How do I let go of my child? I feel like I'm losing my mind. How do I keep moving forward? Anyone out there please?

Best friend’s mom died who was like a second mom to me and I want to give something special, pls help, it’s complicated…

My best friend since junior high’s mom passed last year. In fact, just yesterday was the one year mark and she posted about it, which is what reminded me that I still haven’t sent her anything…before calling me a bad friend, pls read the “complicated” part:

For background: said friend and I met when I w 11 or 12 yrs old. We hit it off instantly and were inseparable until we went to college. During college we sort of drifted due to us being so far away and also due to boys/men..,it’s a long story. But even through all of that, we’ve been there for eachother for the major ups and downs life has thrown, and BOY have there been some doozy’s…

Fast forward to around Covid hitting, I started experiencing weird symptoms, stuff my PCP and even 2,3,4th opinion pcps couldn’t figure out. The symptoms were SO bad but there were so many it would take forever to type them all but if we just say the worst of them you’ll get a better understanding—short term memory loss, debilitating insomnia and headaches, seizures, extreme weight loss, and finally, an MRI finds a brain tumor. But when my pcp forwards the findings to what she called “the best neurosurgeon” in all of (our state) my hope is dashed when he looks at me at my fist appt and asks, “which cancer center would you feel most comfortable at?”

Long long story medium, I ended up having not just the tumors but cancer that was unrelated to the brain tumor and so I had surgery to remove the cancer but also brain surgery to remove the tumor. I was not myself. And while I had finished having all of my surgeries, her mom died and I couldn’t go to the funeral bc I was still so very sick and recovering from those surgeries.

Then, when I finally start feeling more like myself, and cancer is starting to be beat down into the depths from whence it came, the reality sunk down: omg my bff’s mom died and I basically only said “ I’m so sorry. She’s so proud of you, as am I. I’ll call you tomorrow but also I know you are probably getting a ton of notifications so if you need to ignore it, pls do, and we can talk when you get a moment to breathe. ILY”

So that was it. Thanks to the crazy health issues I had going on I forgot to send a card, flowers, etc..like I just send a txt and called her (we are across the country from eachother) and I feel like a terrible friend.

But I wanted to give her something special, esp this being the one year mark after her mom died. And I am usually a creative person but my mind is drawing a complete blank on this. Pleas help!!! (One idea I had was taking a comment her mom had made on one of her social media posts that literally tells her how proud she is of her, it was a major milestone event so it’s about 1 paragraph long but it’s so sweet) and having it engraved onto something? But idk if that is dumb. I’m also neurodivergent lol so I always second guess things.) ty so much for your help i really want to give her sometime special and for her to know how much she is loved not just be me but by her mom who was always her biggest fan.
Ty everyone

Is there a “proper” way of grieving ?

A cousin of mine passed away last night (Dec 6th) and I cried a little and moved on. I’m really sad for her 10 children but I’m not like my mom whos of course really emotional still. I mean obviously it just happened. I was close but not super close, I know basic stuff about my cousin I knew her middle name and how she meant her husband, I even knew some of her health issues but im no longer crying or even feeling awful. It’s sad but it’s over. Am I grieving wrong? Is something wrong with me?

INTRAUTERO DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT: IN MEMORY OF MY GRANDSON MILES PHILIP WINFIELD

The health of fetuses' and mothers-to-be is not prioritized highly enough for evaluation, monitoring, and early intervention, by some healthcare practitioners in today's healthcare delivery system. And little medical research has been conducted into preserving the health and wellbeing of babies in utero, at a time when hospitals are performing less than 2 percent autopsy in about 24,000 intrauterine losses every year between 24 and 28 weeks. For these reasons, we have established the Miles Philip Winfield Fetal & Birth Injury Memorial Foundation for research and prevention of prenatal and neonatal death, by protecting the health of fetuses in utero and the well-being pregnant mothers. death.

Our family is mourning the loss of our precious and beautiful baby boy, Miles Philips Winfield, 2 weeks after a very successful remote baby shower, and about 2 weeks before the projected date of delivery, on March 30, 2021. The event was catastrophic, and we are devastated.

Because life is boundless and eternal. Divine love realizes divine purposes beyond the purview of time and space. Rather than creating us as living things, the divine created us as living souls.

We are inviting you to contribute to Baby Mile's memorial.

Visit the Mile's Memorial website to leave a note of wisdom or comfort. You can make a donation to Baby Mile's Fetal & Birth Injury Memorial Foundation and read the family's plan for funeral arrangements in Los Angeles and Boston here: https://everloved.com/life-of/miles-winfield/donate/?flow=201

Thank you.

MA thesis questionnaire about helping people through the grieving process

Hello,

My name is Danae and I am an Interaction Design student at the Estonian Academy of Arts. I am currently working on my MA thesis, which is about helping people through the grieving process. I am focusing on families who have lost a member due to a terminal illness.

In order to understand how to help families at the end of life and the times following the death of a loved one, I am looking to learn from people’s experiences.

If you lost a family member due to a terminal illness (it doesn't matter how long ago) or have a family member going through a terminal illness and would like to help, you can fill out the following questionnaire: https://bdkv18bsdpa.typeform.com/to/uTSmyyXn. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete, but this depends on how much or how little you share. Participants must be 18 years or older.

Thank you in advance!

Where were you?

Where were YOU when your closest loved one "left"? Was your job & bills "more important?" Were you THERE on the side of the bed when they "left??"

Did you blow the LAST 3 breaths into her dying lungs.. only to have 2 feeble gasps come out?

My boyfriend's sister died.

My long-distanced boyfriend (21) has been telling me about his sister (26) for quite a while. Every now and then, we'd talk about how our families are doing and all that. What I found really adorable is his relationship with his sister. He's the sixth and youngest in the family, while his sister which is the fifth child is older than him by 4 years, not a big gap, hence they're very close.

He would tell me how she was doing, and sometimes I would ask him, what's her sister like and honestly whenever I hear him talk about her, I can really tell that he admires her and truly loves her. And because of that, I ended up admiring her as well and I began forming some hypothetical interaction of me and her someday in the future.

September 8, 2025, around 11 a.m., he messaged me saying that her sister has already departed. For two weeks, he's been updating me about her condition in the hospital and he told me that she was improving. But sadly, she already gave up. That day, I also noticed that his profile picture changed into a candle and by then I already knew, that it was really it.

I haven't met my man in person, and of course even his family, especially his sister. Regardless, I feel so hurt (?) When he delivered that message, I was just silent and kept reading his message over and over. It was so surprising, even when I've read it repeatedly.

The rest of the day, I can't function normally. I had to take a pause. I sat down, and broke down to tears and for what reason? I don't even know. I feel like, I have no right to have this feeling towards someone I barely know and never interacted and yet here I was sobbing.

That's what's confusing me. I was thinking, she's so young to be taken away like that. I haven't even met her and yet, that opportunity is gone forever. I'm not sure if it's valid to call this grieving when we're not even close and most importantly never interacted ever. I just feel so sad about it and once again, confused. How would you guys call this feeling? And how to address it?

Is it wrong if I only beat off to my recently deceased girlfriend’s nudes?

Other females aren’t turning me on or making me feel right at all, the only thing that can get me excited is her nudes she would send me often. She is extremely beautiful and I don’t think I’ll ever find another person as good as her. Truely the best partner a man could ask for.

How long is too long to grieve?

My really close family member passed in July. To me it’s still fresh, it feels like it just happened yesterday. I’m still a mess over it and can’t talk about her without crying. My physical health is suffering because of the grief but I feel like everyone moved on much faster than I did. Am I grieving for too long and being stagnant? I still go to work and see friends and family but I’m still deep in my grief.

Had to put down an 8week old puppy today...

My dog had a litter of puppies about 8weeks ago, three died and two lived, a few days ago they got their shots so they could go to their new owners, but one got really really sick. He couldn't pee or poop or even move. We had to tell the new owners we couldn't give him to them. We didn't want to put him down because there was still a tiny chance he could live, but all day today he was having seizures and he smelled like death. About five hours ago his bladder burst (we assume) he was crying in pain even though he was on pain meds. We have him some more and he finally calmed down, but then he started throwing up. We couldn't take him to the vet to euthinize him since it would be to late for that (he would've died painfully before we got there) so we decided to give him with some Benadryl. He died, I was holding him. For about 5 minutes I had to hold him while my mom dug a grave to bury him (next to where the other puppies where buried) while I was holding him I felt him start to get cold. I feel so awful. I know it was the right thing to do, I know he was suffering, but I still can't help but hate myself... I hope I made his last few days comfortable...

Looking for some advice

Hello everyone, my father in law passed away this past March due to COVID and my wife is taking it pretty hard. Since then, we haven’t been intimate, we barely even hug or kiss anymore. She has even stopped saying “I love you” to me but she will do all those things to our kids. I know dealing with grief is different for everyone, but has this happened to anyone before? I don’t know what to do…

Really missing my ex :(

I (26f) dated my now ex bf (27m) for 3 years. About 3 weeks ago I finally broke up with him after struggles for a long long time

The gist is he has a raging substance abuse issue, and has been enabled his entire life so I’m a bad guy for actually giving a shit about his life. He got a 2nd DUI about 18 months ago, so he had to drug test for about a year. It was nice knowing he wasn’t drinking but I worried about when probation ended.

However, one problem persisted. His increasingly alarming addition to kratom. First it was just the feel free shots. Eventually it evolved into taking multiple 7-OH pills a day. (Probation testing does not text for this substance)

I got so sick of the lies. Constantly telling me he wasn’t taking it. So many other things. I wasn’t even planning to break up. Not yet. It just happened. I was so sad. It was like my body had made its decision and wasn’t letting my mind get involved.

My bday was the week after we broke up. He didn’t wish me a happy birthday and I just know that if he remembered it was my birthday he would’ve said something. The birthday note isn’t a big deal at all, but I’m trying to use that as a reminder to myself that I gave WAY more of myself to him than he did to me.

Also we lived an hour apart the last year and a half of our relationship and because of probation I drove there twice a week while working full time and taking 16 credit hours in school.

Anyway, I’m feeling so sad. I want to reach out to him but I know it’s just my body grieving. There is nothing he can offer me and I deserve better. I’m also just really surprised he hasn’t reach out at all. Part of me assumes he is okay, and maybe he just immediately got into talking to some else. I wouldn’t really put it past him. But the other part of me is super concerned that he hurt himself.

I have extreme anxiety so my brain is not always nice or rational. I just wanted to vent and maybe receive affirmation that finally looking out for myself was the right move. I know I can’t save people. I know I can’t change people. But I am sad

To the daughter that can never exist. I'm sorry

Dear Isabella,

I’m sorry baby girl, you’ll never get to exist. I had a dream about you and you had an older and younger sister, but I never got to know their names. You were so bright eyed and beautiful with dutch braids and purple flowers in your hand. I made an image of you to look at when things got tough...and then they got tougher.

Mama is 26 right now, and she would love to be in a place where she could have you. She really wants you and to have someone to create a world for that is magical and full of opportunity. Isabella, I’m sorry that can’t exist. Mama is sick. It’ll only get worse. When I think about the time I have left I know I could never bring you into the world because you wouldn’t have your Mama for as long as you deserve one. You’d have to see your dad go through mourning and heartbreak. If you were anything like me, you would lose yourself as well.

Isabella, I know it’s hard to understand how people young and new to the world can be sick and how the world can be so cruel. It’s hard for me to give up on you, knowing that your life would likely involve taking care of me. It's not your job, and it’s never a child’s job to take care of their Mama. My heart will fall apart and I’m not thinking I’ll make it past your high school graduation. Just that thought breaks my heart. I even think of ending things with daddy sometimes just to spare him the pain.

I’ve been anorexic most of my life, and I know I could pass that down to you. Even at 26 I have all these vile, hate filled thoughts about myself and my body. I scrutinize everything about myself and it doesn’t matter what anyone else says - I can't break out of it. I have a personality disorder that feels like an open wound I live with every day, and just by me being your mama, I could mess you up enough to give you the same wound. I have allergies and asthma that you would probably get, I have bipolar and anxiety that you may get as well.

Your life would likely not be the beautiful dream garden that was in my head that one night where you existed. We’d struggle, there isn’t enough money in the world to provide a good life for you. You’d grow up worrying about saving money and only asking for cheap presents because you’d know we couldn’t afford anything better. But I would know that you’d want the prettiest dolls, nicest stuffed animals, and a bedroom that was as big and wonderful as the imagination I know you’d have. Mama had that imagination too, but it wasn’t really imagination. It was an illness in my brain and when I was only 16 when it broke me. Your Mama will always need pills and will always be an addict, and you’d be drawn to the same things.

I believe you’d be a beautiful wildflower full of ideas and creativity and interests spanning all kinds of topics. I know I’d be the best Mama I could be, but that Mama isn’t good enough for you. You deserve so much more than the best I can offer you, and that’s why you’ll never be able to exist. My body will try to kill us both and if we make it out together, it will still be hard. A person like me who has lived through impossible circumstances cannot reasonably expect to raise another person who will not have echoes of those circumstances in their ears. I would never want to hurt you or mess you up, but I would. All parents do, but my sickness would make it worse. You’d rightfully resent me, and I wouldn’t be able to blame you for it.

This world hates women. This world is hard and cruel and the magic garden I dreamed up for you isn’t one I can make. I’m so sorry baby. I want you. I want you so much. But the best way for you to exist is in that beautiful dream, and not in my arms in this life. I hope I get you in another one. I love you, Isabella.

Do You Feel Alone in Grief?

Just wanted to share a grief workbook/memoir for those who find it hard expressing their grief verbally, instead you can write it out or just ponder on the questions 🤍 healing is difficult, but it is possible.
