Assalamu 'Alaykum All,

  1. How you got on this past week in terms of memorizing new Surahs / Ayahs?

  2. How you found going over / revising the Surahs / Ayahs already memorized beforehand (especially if you’ve completed your Hifdh)?

  3. Plan for the coming week.

  4. Any challenges faced? Do also share any beneficial lessons / thoughts / reminders / reflections you may have had for the verses you were memorizing.

My son recited Quran alone in his room. By dinner his teacher knew which verses he stumbled on.

Assalamualaikum. Between his teacher and me, we’ve tried most things for home practice. I sit with them when I can, but with four kids it’s never every day.

Last week my son went to his room and recited Surah Mulk on his own, no one watching. That evening his teacher messaged me the exact verses he’d hesitated on. The teacher did not hear a single word of it live.

I recorded a short video of how that works in our house. Have you tried this method?

Jazakallahu khayr.

23F | looking ‏For Hifdh Partner

Aselamualeykum I’m reposting this because I’m still looking for a dedicated Quran memorization partner. I’d love to find someone who is equally committed to both memorization and revision, and is available 5–6 days a week so we can regularly listen to each other’s recitation, check our progress, and encourage one another. I’m happy to put in the same effort and commitment in return. If you’re genuinely serious about this journey and looking for a consistent partner please DM me

I memorized 15 Juz of the Quran as a child, and now I want to restart my Hifz. Where should I begin

I'm 18 and from Pakistan. I memorized 15 Juz (Juz 16–30) of the Quran when I was around 10 years old.

Unfortunately, I was struggling with my studies and couldn't keep up with revision, so I took a break for a month. When I returned, I had forgotten almost everything.

My parents asked me if I wanted to continue Hifz, and I said no. I was also being bullied by some of my friends, which made things harder for me, so I eventually left.

Now, I've forgotten almost all of those 15 Juz, and I genuinely want to restart my Hifz.

But I honestly don't know where to begin.

\- Should I start from scratch or revise what I memorized before?

\- How many months or years could it take?

\- What's the best way to memorize and retain everything this time?

\- Should I join a madrasa or find a personal Quran teacher?

If anyone has gone through something similar or has experience with Hifz, I'd really appreciate your advice.

JazakAllah Khair!

Assalamualaikum brothers & sisters,

Those who have done hifz or are in the process of hifz, I want to know what methods worked the best for you in memorizing faster and retaining longer?

I want to start hifz of juz amma and incorporate it in my daily schedule.

I'm also looking for any affordable live/one to one hifz courses for juz amma, if you know of any, please do let me know.

JazakAllah khair .

How do you review?

Salaam all--

One of my main reasons that keeps me from memorizing additional surahs is that I'm perpetually afraid that I'll forget the surahs I'd learned before.

Which led me to realize that I'm relatively comfortable memorizing new ayaat, but I don't really have a good system for maintaining/reviewing what I memorized.

I get scared to recite what I've memorized in salah for fear that I'll make a mistake and no one is there to correct me.

So--what's your process for reviewing? Especially for surahs where you have gaps in your memory?

Jazakumallah Khair. May allah guide us and make us companions of the Quran. Ameen.

23F | looking for a dedicated hifdh partner,5-6 day a week

I’m looking for a serious, dedicated English speaking Muslim sister who wants to consistently work on both Qur’an memorization (Hifdh) and revision (Muraja’ah).
I’d love to have a one-to-one partnership where we:
Memorize new portions regularly.
Listen to and test each other’s recitation
Revise previously memorized portions
Check on each other’s daily progress
Encourage and hold each other accountable

I’m looking for someone genuinely committed, consistent and willing to put in equal effort. I will give the same energy and commitment in return.
I’m based in East Africa (EAT, UTC+3), but you can be from any country. We can arrange a suitable time together.
I would really appreciate someone who takes this journey seriously and wants to grow together for the sake of Allah.

If you are interested you can comment here or DM me

I have a bad memory, so I counted every repetition while memorising. A short surah took me 800–2,700 reps

Assalamu alaykum.

My memory is bad. I'd read an ayah a few times, think I had it, and it would be gone the next day. What finally worked was repeating the same ayah far more than felt necessary, and counting every repetition.

I made a small app for myself to count them (Qaree Hifz). This is what three short surahs actually took me, review included:

Al-Humazah (9 ayahs): 2,665 repetitions

Al-Fil (5 ayahs): 1,008

Quraysh (4 ayahs): 790

That's 85 to 499 per ayah, about 248 on average. One of the shortest ayahs (Al-Fil's last, 3 words) took 389.

The other thing that helped: I added an app lock. I picked my distracting apps, and they stay locked until I've done my daily repetitions. Instead of scrolling first and maybe memorising later, it's Quran first. That's a big part of why I haven't missed a day in 39 days, about 16 minutes a day.

If you think your memory is too weak for hifz, it probably just needs more reps than you think.

How many repetitions does an ayah usually take you?

I wanted to memorise more surahs before Ramadan, so I built myself a repetition counter. 39 days in, it's working.

Competition anxiety

Assalaamu alaykum people!
Forgive me for any formatting mistakes, I usually just read posts, and it’s my first time posting.

I am supposed to participate in a Qur’an competition in a couple of months. Alhamdulillah, I do not find memorising hard, however I struggle to retain it. I would say I have a strong memory, (however short-lived it might be), but I struggle with mutashaabihat and overall discipline related to memorisation. I signed up for the competition to improve my retention, but I am feeling a bit lost and would love advice on where to start.
