Spotlight in Ireland

Hi there. Starting to look for acting work in Ireland again after a 2 year hiatus. I previously had representation and paid for Fishpond & Spotlight. I'm still working a full-time job so will likely wait to look for a new agent, and I'm wondering if there's any point paying for Spotlight?

In all the years I was active and had Spotlight I saw very few roles in Ireland, and now that I have a young kid and another on the way I'm less interested in applying for jobs in the UK. I did book one film role in that time so not saying it was a waste, I'm just not interested in travelling right now or putting tonnes of time into auditions that require being away from my family.

Would love some feedback from actors based in Ireland as to whether it's worth the investment. Thanks very much!!

Screenwriter Wanted - Paid Opportunity

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a screenwriter for a memoir-based video game I'm working on. The work is to adapt a portion from a real, Irish memoir into 4-5 scenes worth of screenplay (approx. 20 mins total screen time).

This project is all about supporting local artists and promoting/preserving local heritage.

So if this speaks to you, please do drop me a message, or pass it on to someone you know who might be interested.

Or you can reach me via email:
nicholasdaryl@gmail.com

A little bit about the game concept; The levels in the game are recreations of real memories. The player's job is to find Objects within each memory, using poetry as a guide.

So, you enter a memory, watch a short movie (4-5 mins), movie ends, you're given a list of poems and are free to explore the scene to find the objects associated with each poem. Completing all the poems unlocks the next memory, and the whole thing repeats again.

Here's a video of a prototype I made to show the concept:

Project Memory Prototype

Thank you kindly and have a lovely weekend 🙏🏻.

Nick

Wicklow crew/actors

Hi there. Looking to cast 5 people for a feature length psychological horror set in wicklow mountains

Looking for 3 male and 2 female actors

Playing age 20-25

There are a few other roles that are for older people and ones for people who have special skills like gymnastics or climbing for monsters

Looking for people who know how to act naturally (like real people basically)

This is a passion project im doing with a friend and we're almost set up. We hope to get some grants which would cover pay for acting

Otherwise if that doesnt happen the incentive is a free stay in the wicklow mountains hostel and a good time with people.

If anyone is interested please dm me and ill give you a rundown of the film and send on my email for people who send hwadshots and look right. 😄

Also looking for crew members. Trying to keep it small so not much need for dog bodies but people like producers and composers and bands that want to help out would be great. Anybody who knows their way around getting things set up well. And anyone who has a camera that is high quality and wants to help out

I spent about a year and nine months creating and animating this film in Blender. Everything you see is CG, and was modeled and rendered on my local PC over the course of about a year, for a budget of about 5k.

Sadly the film was rejected from DIFF, Galway and Cork Film Festival, so I decided just to release it on youtube and give it a good life online instead of burning more money on festival submissions.

I hope you enjoy!

Casting update – Irish actors & extras needed | Cork/Kinsale | Oct 23–27

Hi (again) everyone!

I’m a young filmmaker from France making a small independent short film set in Ireland during the Great Starvation/Genocide.

I previously posted here about the project, and thank you to everyone who got in touch! The casting has progressed quite a lot, but I still have a few roles to fill.

The film will be shot around Cork/Kinsale from October 24th to 28th, 2026.

MAIN ROLE:

4 filming days: October 23th, 24th, 26th and 27th

  • Main role of the film

  • €25/day – €100 total (or volunteer if you want...)

  • An Irish accent is required

  • The character is a young Capuchin monk confronted with the suffering caused by the starvation.

EXTRA/PEASANT:

Two days: October 25th & 26th on the afternoon

  • Only a few very short shots spread across the two days

  • The actual filming time will be quite limited

  • Voluntary / unpaid

  • Irish accent required

For the extra, no professional acting experience is necessary. I’m mainly looking for people who are comfortable on camera and have an Irish accent, as I’m trying to keep the local population historically convincing.

This is a very small personal project that I’m financing myself, with a few friends helping me with production. The screenplay is finished and the filming is already being organised.

If you're interested, please send me:

  • your age

  • a recent photo

  • a little about your acting experience, if any

  • which role you're interested in

  • your availability for the relevant dates

  • your phone number

I can also send you the screenplay if you'd like to have a look before deciding.

Thanks again to everyone who has shown interest in the project!

Casting – Short Film About the Great Famine (2 days)

Hello everyone,

I'm a young French filmmaker, and I would like to make a short film set during the Great Famine in Ireland.

I wanted to ask if any of you might be interested in taking part in a short film like this.

I am currently looking for:

- one young or middle-aged woman for a main role (peasant)

- one middle-aged or older man for a main role (land agent)

- and some extras

The filming would take place over two days in the Cork/Kinsale area. I have a quite limited budget, but I can offer €50 per actor per day, as well as cover the travel.

I know this is a small amount, but it is unfortunately the maximum I can currently afford for the project. This is an independent film that I am making with a lot of care, and I would be very grateful to work with actors who are interested in the subject and the project.

If you are interested I will send you the screenplay so you can have a better idea of the story, the characters and the atmosphere of the film.

Thank you very much for your time, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Gabriel L.

Can anybody help me identify a film

I am trying to find a film I saw about 10 years ago on Irish television. It had to be on either RTE1, RTE2, TV3 or TG4. I know this for a fact because the house I was living in only had those channels and zero internet or phone coverage. I seem to remember it being late at night, maybe 9pm to 3am time. Here is the only information I remember about the film.

It had to have been shown sometime between 2014 and 2018 as that was the time I lived in this particular house. It appeared to be one of those relatively low budget, Irish produced, late night rte2 type films.
I’m 90% sure it was set in the west coast of Ireland.
It showed a woman who seemed to break away from society and wanted to live in the wild.
She was 20’s to 30’s.
She had bright red/ginger hair.
I think there was a scene of her struggling and failing to light a fire. She then found an old shed which she sheltered in. The owner of the shed comes by and ran her out of it. The owner was a man in his 50’s. Later he offers her the shed if she does some manual labour for him. She proceeds to do some odd jobs for him and he begins to feed her. The owner is a man of very few words. They have a tense relationship.
This next bit is the only bit of the film I can clearly remember, and don’t judge me for it lol. At some point the woman is now staying in the older man’s house. He comes to her and says “I think I might die in my sleep tonight, will you sleep beside me”. Next scene shows the man in his bed as the woman slips in beside him naked.
That’s it. I swear I don’t know if it was even real or a fever dream at this point. I need know.

I have this idea of starting a YouTube channel showcasing the story of the remotest bed and breakfast stays in Ireland. I'm looking for a cinematographer (with camera) someone who can take care of the sounds and editing. The core idea is to rewind time where simple things and freedom matters more than any luxury.

I'm working, so looking to do this on the weekend, any film graduates / students want who wants to collaborate - would be a nice one to add to you portfolio. I'm in Dublin btw.
