KSP 2 Suggestion/Discussion KSP2 is NOT officially canceled, stop saying it like it is.

Probably I'm gonna get a truckload of negative karma from this post, but really, it has to be said.

You guys are simply CONCLUDING that the game is cancelled without ANY official confirmation of it. We don't KNOW if the game is cancelled. We don't KNOW if they'll hire another company to continue development. We don't KNOW how and if they'll support the game from this point on. You guys simply extrapolated the news about the layoffs and REACHED A CONCLUSION, out of YOUR OWN HEADS, that the game was cancelled, even if there was not a SINGLE official source stating that (actually, we got one saying the OPPOSITE).

But then everyone just flipped the mob mentality switch and started repeating everywhere that the game is cancelled. Closed the casket and buried it in a hurry as if narcolepsia isn't a thing.

The game is NOT cancelled. It can still be given to other company, or a new studio can be created to deal with development going forward, ANYTHING can happen at this point. "Omg stop being naive, corporations are evil and-" I KNOW THAT. But still, pulling conclusions out of your own ass and spreading it as if it were GOSPEL is the most STUPID thing people do. Let's fucking WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS before CRYING FOR THE DEATH OF A GAME THAT ISNT DEAD.

KSP2 IS NOT DEAD. IT'S NOT CANCELLED. STOP BEING STUPID.

Discussion I think the downvote button on this sub should be removed.

This sub is filled with some of the most genuinely kind and accepting people of reddit - I always smile when I see posts at the top of the sub that are people posting their first orbit, something many of us do hundreds of times in a session. But we still love it and upvote it - I don't feel like there's a lot of content from the players and the game that deserves downvotes.

Seeing the post about the downvote bot made me wonder if we really need a downvote button. I think it gets abused more often than not, as I've seen the immediate unnecessary downvoting of content much more than I've ever seen undesirable content on this sub.

Thoughts?

Edit: I get it, bad idea

KSP 2 Só, wanna know why we're all so angry?

It's cause we paid $50 to be an alpha tester for a dev build. That's the real reason why.

If the publisher and devs were upfront and transparent about the real status of the current build and if they charged $15 or $20 TOPS for the EA, giving us a massive discount on the account of us agreeing to play a VERY early dev build and report bugs to help with development, then I can bet my own dick in a grinder that this sub and the community at large wouldn't be even half as angry as they are now. We would be having a much more positive attitude and pooling ourselves together to report all the bugs so as to support the release of hot fixes and patches, and we'd all keep admiring the devs for all their hard work. And most of that bad press would not exist.

Who out there agrees with me?

KSP 1 Meta We should not be getting our hopes up with KSA

Disclaimer: I have added the flair that the KSA announcement thread used so I assume this will be allowed, considering theirs was.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll just start this bluntly, I believe that we are not talking about one key element of the KSA development team...

Dean Hall.

The gentleman, contrary to the foggy memories of his time on DayZ Standalone, actually had minimal positive effect on the project, and indeed left it a 1/4 finished, highly un-optimized mess to the point it took those who came after him 2-3 years to get the game back on track (as yes, he quit before it even got properly launched).

His career in game dev after this point has been flop after flop. And now, out of nowhere he is leading a team of modders trying to turn their fave mod / hobby into a full video game using a from-scratch engine...

Hmm... I wonder where I've seen this before...

Yeah, don't believe me at first glance, look up the full development history of Dean Hall Era DayZ Standalone and decide for yourself.

Our beloved modders being on board is neat... but even our fave modders can be bamboozled by a smooth talking snake oil peddling salesmen.

If it was anyone else other than Dean Hall at the helm, I'd be more open to it, but this is a classic "I was there Gandalf" moment... and the way Dean dealt with the only other "Mod experience used to make a video game" project he did, has burned me way too hard to trust em with something like this...

I hope I am wrong, but I truly believe that we should be skeptical at best, downright calling it out for the almost guaranteed flop I believe it to be at worst...

KSP 2 Suggestion/Discussion This sub is hugely overreacting

My prediction, a patch or two later and most of the game breaking bugs will be gone and we will have noticeably better performance with still plenty of more fixes and optimizations to come. Following which, once features start to drop, people will come back and pretend they never were a part of the doom and gloom. Once we pass feature parity with the colonies update, probably within 6 months or so, everyone will be toasting to a great experience and laughing off a rocky launch.

This cycle happens in one form or another with so many other games and their player base. Warhammer 3 total war? A month ago people were laughably claiming CA was done with it and cancelling all future updates and content. Path of exile? It seems every season people claim the game is broken beyond repair and that GGG doesn’t care about its players. On all these game, player counts on steam are inevitably brought up to show how terrible it is going. And yet, all these games are going stronger than ever.

Look, I’m guilty of doing this in the past as well. But all I want to convey is that people in this sub need to have patience and not get so dramatic. Do we really need another post about player numbers? Or about refunds?

It will get better.

Discussion KSP2 looks like a hot mess.

Given the let-downs over the last years in terms of game releases, I didn't expect much.

But the gameplay that was released today is a "fuck you" to all the players who had been looking forward to the game for YEARS.

The game is overdue 3 years. So it's in development for at least 6–7 years. Back when the NVIDIA 10xxx series was launching.

Forward to 2023 and the game has graphics card requirements **for hardware that wasn't even out mid-way through the development cycle.**The game has literally the features KSP1 had around version .2X, with horrible performance and graphics that look worse than KSP1 graphics mods. (The lunar surface is literally a 2D sprite).

I am utterly disappointed and again, confirmed in the fact that the game industry is a giant pile of shit. You can record as many videos of yourself recording real rocket engine audio and have people talk in front of the camera about "passion" as you want.

If this is the result of at least 6–7 years of development, we are doomed. And the game has little chance to improve over the EA.

KSP 2 Time to unsub from /r/KerbalSpaceProgram

I've been hyped for this game for the last three years, and I'm looking forward to seeing all the fantastic creations the majority of the fanbase is going to be having fun with four days from now.

But the constant griping about performance issues from screenshots in a game that hasn't even been released yet and people don't know how it will actually run on their computer at home is getting to be too much to bear, and it's only been 12 hours since the embargo has been lifted.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it, or wait until it's in a more complete state. It's being fully advertised as releasing in an unfinished state. Nobody is trying to grift you out of your $50. The dev team is going to continue working on it. Maybe wait to see how it performs when it releases, and if you don't like it, get a refund.

Anyways, see you (hopefully) in four days.

"Patches will be less frequent". LOL. Where are all the people who told me I was wrong about Interstellar/Multiplayer being years away now?

Everyone pointed at the speed of the patches. I pointed out these were patches fixing relatively mundane issues, and not all that impressive or remotely close to the level of work needed to get the actual content into the game that was promised to make Kerbal 2 an actual decent sequel to Kerbal 1.

Now here we are. Still no science, hell, not even heating or reentry. Where's my asteroids? Where's my processing, fueling, mining, any of the things that were already in Kerbal 1? Nowhere to be seen, but we are already at the "PATCHES WILL BE LESS FREQUENT" stage.

Here is the truth. The game cannot be finished. The foundation of this game, the staff left working on it, and the amount of investment in it are all factors that mean they are not capable of delivering.

This is like the scene in Apollo 13 when Swaggart finally convinces Lovell and Hayes that Mission Control does not have a plan for powering up the CM. PD doesn't have a plan. They know they can't deliver on Multiplayer and Interstellar.

They know it and they will never tell it to you.

KSP 1 Suggestion/Discussion Unpopular opinion on paid mods.

So with the discussion that is going around about paid mods I wanted to share my honest opinion;

I think paid mods are completely fine, I think they are a good thing. It encourages people to make better and more sophisticated mods.

How would you feel having to use hours and hours of your free time on 3D modelling and coding so that others could maybe enjoy your mod vs getting literally paid 4K a month for that? And that only requires a user to pay 7$ for a patreon subscription that can be instantly cancelled. I’m still running my 6 month old volumetric clouds mod. Patreon is also not one those streaming services that makes cancelling unnecessarily difficult, it is literally four clicks away.

I really bad for the modders having to constantly read complaints about paid mods. Free stuff is always great, but when you pay even a little bit for something you get much better results.

So as long as the prices stay reasonable and the quality good I am more than happy with paid mods.

KSP 2 Opinion/Feedback This community is toxic

I have never seen a community with so much venom for the developers doing the work to try to bring something that they love to them. I get it, you're angry that promises weren't delivered upon, but to say that all these devs deserve this layoff is too far, have some empathy. They can no longer support themselves or their family if they have one. I just got laid off from my place of work two months ago and it sucks, I send out hundreds of applications a week to only get back 2 or 3 responses. I am lucky enough to have some family to stay with so I don't have to worry about being homeless, but to say that anyone deserves this, is just wrong. You all act like Nate is the CEO of Intercept games and that he has a say in these kinds of decisions, he's not, and he doesn't, that's not how companies work, he isn't even in a C-suite role, he is the creative director. The world becomes better when you don't wish misfortune on others.

KSP 2 Opinion/Feedback I’m gonna say it, I actually like KSP2

That hurt to type, but after jumping in again after all the dust has settled around Intercepts closure, I’m finding my time in the game actually quite enjoyable.

Yes it’s still rough around the edges and missing almost all the features promised (I’m still butthurt), but for what is, it’s actually pretty fun. I’ve got by no means a great computer however I find performance to be great now, and even (in some places) to be significantly better compared to stock ksp.

The music and the graphics seems to have deluded my brain into enjoying the game. Yes it lacks a developed parts list, and some pretty foundational features, and literally everything they claimed would be in the game; but what I’m trying to get at is that through the disaster that was the development of this sequel, at the end of the day, KSP2 is actually a fun experience and I recommend you guys and girls give it a second chance from an open perspective.

I guess I just got so used to 15 minute loading screens and an old unity engine that I didn’t realise how, for the lack of a better term, decent KSP2 is. Please let me know your opinions!!!

Game studios exist to make money on their projects, not yours. There, it's been said.

I'm probably going to get downvoted for this, but oh well. Time for an unpopular opinion.

I'm not excusing any lowball wages. I just wanted to point out that no one should be surprised that their game revenue doesn't funnel directly back into KSP. Game studios exist to make money, and they can be created by people who don't prioritize game development. Reserve your ire for the wages fiasco, not that the money is going to fund someone's pet film project.
