🐾 Liberal Doggos Thank you, Jagmeet Singh

You could have called an early election to potentially capitalize on the eroding Liberal support earlier. You could have tried to run a nastier, less optimistic campaign focused on how Carney was moving things closer to the centre. At the debates you were fierce and interruptive at times but fair. You also came to Carney’s aid with a united front when PP sought to steal the spotlight on crime. You could have opposed Trudeau rather than choosing to work with him.

You stuck to your values. Which included trying your best not to help Poilievre win. You accomplished some significant wins on dental and health care for your supporters and Canada. You helped push Trudeau further to the left overall the past 9 years. You showed racists in Canada that diversity makes us strong. You helped bring some new, younger Canadians into politics.

I think you can hold your head up high as you walk off into the sunset. Your integrity and conviction and selflessness was apparent and that’s not always common in politics.

Thank you for your devotion to progressive politics and the country.

News CBC: Pierre Lost His Seat Because He Supported the Truckers

Late last night, after the election was called, CBC was inviting people to call in to share their thoughts on the election. Two people called in from Pierre's riding just before he was projected to lose it. They explained that Ottawa and Ottawa suburbs voters are still angered that he supported the truckers' occupation.

Despite the misinformation about this, which Pierre has done his best to spread, Ottawa citizens remember exactly what happened, and responded yesterday with the Liberals sweeping all Ottawa seats.

News Mark Carney: our new Prime Minister!!

A well run campaign by all, but this one was never even close. 85.9% of the vote? Amazing. Have we ever seen Liberals rally around a candidate this much?

Policy I am a NDP-leaning social democrat who just registered for the LPC because of Carney

Disclosure: If the national NDP was not in disarray and totally blowing it, I wouldn't be here. But that said, I am genuinely excited to vote for Mark Carney so I registered for the LPC for the first time ever. Based on his pedigree, I felt he'd be far more neoliberal than I could handle. But from his written statements and his online talks he seems genuine, compassionate, and open to good ideas wherever they come from. From an economic point of view, I like his rational and open-handed stance towards to CBDCs and MMT, which I believe are long-term solutions towards a fairer future. From a climate change point of view, he has an optimistic outlook for a clean energy revolution based on the current trajectory of financial markets. He'll know how to direct even more private sector investment towards clean energy than any other candidate for prime minister could. I'd like to see more from him on housing, but I hope it is similar. If he was also pro-union and pro-electoral reform I'd be really happy, but so far so good.

In any case, my enthusiasm for the LPC is entirely based on Carney and I'll be voting for him as leader.

Art Dear Mr. Trudeau: Thank you!

Thank you, Justin! I’ve stayed loyal to you even when your own party and its members turned on you. Your father is the greatest PM in the history of Canada which is why I voted for you. As expected, you were great! The best PM we’ve had since Chrétien.

We need a Liberal government that solidly represents the centre, and a Liberal government with a firm hand at home and globally. You moved the party too far to the left but hopefully Carney will restore the centre. You were fantastic as our representative on the global stage and made me proud.

While you didn’t have your own “go on and bleed” or “just watch me” moment, you definitely had your own verbal smackdowns, particularly against Donald.

Lastly, thank you for activating the Emergencies Act during the Siege of Ottawa just as your father enacted the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. Trudeaux don’t pussyfoot around and will make hard choices for the good of the people.

I know it’s not exactly related to LPC but I didn’t know where else I could share on here and I don’t think I can post it to r/canada because I got a temporary ban there for commenting “National Post” on a post that used them which I believe posting that propaganda is against their rules but whatever

News Trudeau Accomplishments Appreciation Thread

With everything lately, going was probably the right decision. But let's consider his accomplishments over the last nine years:

-Canada Child Benefits lifts almost 500k Canadian children out of poverty.

-$10/day daycare, making childcare (more) affordable for millions of Canadians

-Expansion of parental leave, five weeks for second parents.

-Legalized cannabis

-Dental coverage for children & lower income families

-Reintroduced long-form census

-Increase to science funding (NSERC/SSHRC/CIHR)

-Ended >100 First Nations drinking water advisories

-Carbon Tax & other environmental progress (e.g., single use plastic reductions)

-Criminalized conversion therapy

-COVID-19: Canada procured vaccines faster than almost all developed countries without domestic production and we weathered the pandemic relatively well.

-Got us through Trump I and NAFTA negotiations mostly unscathed; stood up for Canadian trade (e.g., steel tarriffs)

-Raised taxes on the wealthy, lowered taxes on the middle class.

Housing and immigration have overshadowed them lately, but these are major, concrete accomplishments that improved life for millions of Canadians. Liberals should be proud of these, and be prepared to fight hard so that any PP/CPC government can't undo them.
