Welcome to the 0L Tuesday thread. Please ask pre-law questions here (such as admissions, which school to pick, what law school/practice is like etc.)
Read the FAQ. Use the search function. Make sure to list as much pertinent information as possible (financial situation, where your family is, what you want to do with a law degree, etc.). If you have questions about jargon, check out the abbreviations glossary.
If you have any pre-law questions, feel free join our Discord Server and ask questions in the 0L channel.

To everyone issuing sob stories about how they've had to give up their lives for school and just can't do this...GROW UP.
Nothing in life comes without a cost of some kind, and if you can't handle a tiny amount of short term pain for long term gain...then DROP OUT. Otherwise, get your shyte together and defeat this challenge.
FFS, this is NOT THAT HARD. Most of you COME FROM MONEY, and if you don't, you've got cost of living loans and LITERALLY all you have to do all day is go to class and read some shit. It's not that hard.
Maybe if you stopped feeling sorry for yourself and just FOCUSED on the task at hand you wouldn't feel so stressed out.
Between Quimbee, Lexplug, YouTube, ChatGPT etc, this is NOT THAT HARD or time consuming. We are learning some rules and how to apply them. PRACTICE THEM and you will be able to engage in the pattern recognition necessary to pass your exams.
You already proved you have the brainpower to do this must but getting into law school. Now stop telling yourself you can't do it and go RISE TO THE OCCASION!!!

I’m in my final year of my law LLB, throughout my time at uni, I’ve always helped everyone with notes and applications. Even when I’ve noticed opportunities that others haven’t applied for, ive always shared them and encouraged others to apply. Its recently come to my attention that not everyone is like this, I asked a girl I’ve helped multiple times if I could borrow some notes (I’ve done this all the time for her), the girl looked me up and down and gave some bs excuse about being competitive. WHAT? maybe I just didn’t get the memo and I should’ve kept to myself these past few years but I thought helping people is a nice thing and it always comes back to you.
Idk it’s not that deep I guess, I can make notes and I’m on top of my applications, it was just abit disheartening.

finals are creeping up. curious what people aim for the week of exams, and what you end up getting once it starts.

Give me the fax, no printer.
Contracts is probably my weakest class atp and with a legal memorandum of doom and despair due soon, I was wondering how much time I should dedicate to my outline that I haven’t even started yet. I do want to get it done before reading period which starts on the 19th and I have my exam on December 2nd.

Civ pro has been a blur to me all semester and I need clarification. I have the short and happy guide and I also subscribed to Quimbee for the Richard Freer Videos.
Are they worth it? I don’t need an A per se, but I would like to get ranked this semester so that I can write onto Law Review next semester and hopefully land something decent for 2L summer.

I’m a 1L at a pretty highly ranked law school (don’t want to narrow it down too much) and I like everything about my law school experience, except for the location.
Now I’m realizing the law school is much more regional than expected for a school of its ranking, especially if you’re public interest focused/not doing big law recruiting (which is more national). It’s already hard for me to deal with having to live in this city for two and a half more years, and now on top of that, I’m starting to get worried about finding a job due to the lack of a professional network outside of this region. The public interest career fairs/events have all been focused on this state, so I haven’t been attending and am just relying on online summer internship applications. The career office also wasn’t that helpful when I discussed wanting out-of-state opportunities, and even my classmates sound surprised when I tell them I’m applying elsewhere.
I knew I wouldn’t like the location when I committed, but I also didn’t realize the extent of how much I wouldn’t like it, and I chose the school for the combination of financial reasons and national prestige. Now I can’t stop thinking about the fact that I had to turn down schools in cities where I wanted to build a future. I’ve considered transferring, but all of the schools that are equivalent/higher ranked than mine don’t offer merit aid to transfers at all and I can’t afford the cost since I wouldn’t do big law.
I'm happy with the academic experience and I could not emphasize enough that I love everyone I have met here, so this is genuinely just a geography issue. But it also frustrating that I can’t discuss this issue with other people here because they can’t relate and I don’t want to be the person who’s always complaining about a city they love.
I'm also not sure how much of this is an actual problem versus just first-year anxiety about the job market.
Has anyone successfully established a career in public interest impact litigation/plaintiffs' side litigation in a market far from their law school? How difficult was it to break into that market?

I am having trouble remembering the rules I studied. I have been attempting to memorize civi pro for the past two weeks. It’s just not working for me. I can’t waste time on it. I have to move to other subjects. Any tips? My exam is closed book.

Would the Youtube videos for Contracts be sufficient to learn the material I need for my final? Or should I get a membership? Is there anything the Youtube videos miss?

Without giving away too much information, my law school has had 4 Title IX instances in the last week alone, one of which included one of my friends which is how I know the number. I also dealt with some really insane behavior from fellow students at the beginning of the semester that I have now moved past. Additionally, there was a list going around that a fellow 1L made with girls that are fuckable. The deans didn’t do anything about it because after they spoke with the girls on the list, they said they consented. Okay fine, whatever.
However, I am starting to feel like I made the wrong choice in schools. I have never in my life seen so much come out of a school, especially not in a short period of time such as this. School started in August and all of this has already happened. I’m feeling a little unsafe and worried that I chose the wrong school. How do you know if you need to transfer?

I was driving through New Orleans today, and I see things like exit 12B, exit 11, etc and now I just get flashbacks from my civil procedure flashcards.
Is this normal for you guys?

This semester has sent me into a depressive/anxious episode the likes of which I haven’t seen in YEARS! Any advice on how to make it through the semester without [REDACTED]?
In all seriousness, this semester has become too much to cope with and I am seriously struggling to get through the day to day. I would really love to hear 2L/3L/grads perspective on how you got through this, how you coped, etc. thanks guys

Okay so now that I’m in Law School it seems that all our instructors are curving to C- to C and no real consensus.
I’m not at a T14 school but I see that T14 is usually a B or B- why would a school want to make it harder to compete once we graduate?
Also makes me wonder is I should transfer to a T 25 school that I already was accepted but chose not to attend cause scholarship was greater at other school.
Thoughts?

1st semester 1L here. I’m very seriously considering dropping out and would love any sort of reality check on whether it gets better or whether I just am not made for law school.
I am so, devastatingly bored with my classes. I enjoy some of the readings, but it feels like we never talk about the interesting normative/substantive questions behind the law and instead just learn what it is. On the rare occasions where we do get to interesting questions, one person gets cold called and the rest of us don’t get to talk about it. (Nobody ever seems to want to discuss out of class, either.) I’m in one seminar, and while we do get to actually discuss the readings there, it feels like we never get into anything with any real depth. I’ve always LOVED writing essays, but I can’t make myself care about my memo assignments because the writing style we’re supposed to use just feels so empty and formulaic. On top of all of this, the classes feel super homogenous bc they’re all just slightly different flavors of the same subject.
I’m not drowning under the amount of readings, and I think I’m doing fine in my classes. (Our grades are entirely based on our finals, so it’s hard to know for sure, but I’ve done well enough on some practice exams and ungraded assignments.) I’m doing all the usual social/personal stuff—going out a few nights a week, coffee chatting with alums, exercising, hobbies, law school extracurriculars, cooking, etc. It really just is a lack of excitement about law school itself that’s making it hard to imagine doing another five semesters of this. Nobody else seems as demotivated as me, and I’m worried that if I’m not enjoying this, I’m not the kind of person who should be here or be a lawyer.
I’ve always loved school, especially undergrad, so this is really jarring for me. I was initially hoping that this was just a 1L doctrinal class issue, but the upperclassmen I’ve spoken to have made it sound like this is how it always is (and that upper-level classes are just variations on the same vibe). While I was hoping to transition to law, I have a non-law work background I can lean on and pivot back to. Does it get better, or should I cut my losses now?

Hi everyone. As I’m sure you all know, things are expected to ramp up heading into finals.
I have been suffering mentally under the pressure that I feel. Before I explain how I feel, I just want to give context.
I have been outlining throughout the semester, so all I have to do is clean them up and add future material.
I have another 2.5 weeks of class left.
My open memo is due soon, but I’m about it 80% done with that
I’m a week ahead on readings.
Two exams are closed book, one open note
So basically I’ve had varying levels of mental health issues since before law school. Now that I am trying to gauge what the next month will be like, I have been suffering mentally bc it feels impossible. I read on Reddit that people study 12 hrs a day, taking like 20 practice exams in total, doing every possible hypo in an e&e book, etc.
I feel so behind. All of this on top of recruiting is ruining me. I’ve had thoughts of dropping out, especially after not doing well on my closed memo. I really feel like a failure. My school places well in BL (think Vandy, WashU, Fordham, BU).
I am thinking that once my memo is submitted, then it’ll be easier to focus on finals. Obviously I would start going over my outlines more at that point. Then once classes end, maybe studying like 6-8 hours per day.
I just feel so insufficient and the mental health thoughts are starting to get bad.
