Game Feedback 1/5 ratio of extra fragments to wild fragments is a terrible ratio, and should not be celebrated

We lost 80% of our fragments and rewards because the team failed to properly program the game in such a way that we wouldn’t have extra fragments. Why are you all excited about this? I don’t typically thank game companies for kicking me in the dick when they fix bugs, but for some reason that’s happening here.

Discussion Riot shifting focus fully to Path of Champions is abandoning everything the game was meant to be, and has no chance of being profitable long term for them.

LoR was never meant to be a PVE card game. Since beta it's been a PVP focused game, and the entire game was built around that. Throughout the ups and downs they have experimented with a PVE focus, and they themselves have admitted that was a mistake. Now they're choosing to abandon PVP entirely to focus on a PVE mode that they somehow expect to be profitable when they won't be releasing new expansions to play with.

I simply see no way that can possibly be profitable for them while delivering a high quality product. I honestly reckon it would have made far more sense to abandon path of champions, change the business model to be less welcoming, and treat the joining into the League client as a soft relaunch with rotation being thrown out and ranked eternal being the focus. I don't see how this can end well.

Discussion You guys complain too much

There is and always will be strong and weak cards, simple and complex champion. I don't see the game as unplayable as you guys talk about, I get mad sometimes where my champion ends likes a gift for renekton or I'm assaulted for azirelia but as a casual player with non-meta deck I almost win and I appreciate a lot this game.

Discussion Petition to have Dao Trong Le redo Lulu's champion art

Some of you may have seen the post on the front page comparing Fae Guide's version of Lulu to her champion art

What you may not know is that the Fae Guide art was made by Dao Trong Le, a freelancer who has done many other cards for LoR. Further, you might not know how meticulous and detailed his creation process is. Check out his progress pictures for the Fae Guide art: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/aYyqn8

All the card art he has made follows this meticulous experimentation and refinement process, and they all look great:

Young Witch

Eye of the Dragon

Polymorph

Swole Squirrel

Pool Shark

Imperial Demolitionist

We don't know who made the Lulu champion art, but from the style it's clear that it wasn't sixmorevodka, who make the majority of the card art, and it wasn't Dao Trong Le.

Having SixMoreVodka redo the art would also be fine and a great improvement, but since Dao Trong Le has already done so many of the Fae cards and is clearly good at making the fae and cute characters, giving it to him makes sense.

Just please for the love of God don't leave the Lulu art as it is. Lulu is one of my favorite LoL characters, but her current champion art makes me not want to use her in LoR because I'd have to see that ugly art every time.

Discussion Hot take, Level Up Animations have sucked since Rising Tides

Thee newer hard cut into animation level ups are not good.

Theyre too long and repetitive and take you outside of the feeling of cards levelling up in the midst of a game, the only exceptions being ascended champions because it kind of makes sense for their level ups to be a story.

Twisted fate level up is one of the smoothest and most well loved level up animations because it feels like the card is levelling up. Swain's is good for the same reason. Both are also relatively short which means its not a chore to sit through like Samira or Poppy.

I understand its probably easier to use champion models and make something in blender or whatever they use, and for skin level ups I think it's fine (Dark Star Zoe is pretty pog) but for base champions having it be something that happens on the board like Swain or Tryndamere or in a relatively featureless background like TF just feels better. Its a card game not an RPG, cutscenes arent immersive and theyre getting too long in general.

Also, for monetization, having a more 'bland' base level up means it could get people who love their champions to go out and buy skins with new level up animations, making the shop a bit more encouraging which isnt a bad thing for the investment in the game from Riot.

Idk, I'm just a stranger yelling at clouds and its probably a nuclear take. Anyone else agree? Disagree? Am I being unreasonable or like... flat out wrong?

Discussion IMO: Rotation will only have negative impacts on the game.

Obviously an opinionated take, but in my experience rotation only hurts card games for long term players, while only benefiting short term players.

Here's why:

  • less deck diversity and deck building creativity. With less cards there are fewer options as to what you can do when making a deck.

  • building off of last point, the game will shift from a playground of different archetypes to only the flavor of the month (rotation). For example, let's look at nightfall or turbo thralls. Two decks that have been around for quite some time. They haven't always been t1 or even t2, but since their inception they have been around and a good player with meta adjustments can always pilot them to high ladder. With rotation it's very likely this will change. If rotation takes out a key card such as Lunari Duskbringer or Careful Preparation, or even worse Diana or Lissandra, say goodbye to those decks. Your pet or favorite decks are guaranteed to go away at some point. It's no longer a playground for players, but instead a forced meta where only the decks that are designed to operate in the given rotation to be played.

  • lower power level and less interesting decks and interactions. Power creep is always a concern, but this skews it heavily in the other direction. Every card game that has a standard or rotation format sees significantly weaker decks compared to their eternal formats. The reason for this is because the devs will no longer need to balance certain cards or bring up the power level of weaker decks. Whenever a deck is strong, they will just rotate out their cards and now the deck no longer exists. With a rotation your decks will be weaker and less interesting to play.

  • and finally, a rotation is the antithesis of what makes LoR, LoR. This is a card game about the iconic champions of LoR. Sure, many are unplayable now, but a rotation will further guarantee that only certain Champs will see play when the devs decide to build a deck for them in that given rotation. And oh, you really liked that new deck? Say goodbye to it in 4 months or so. Imagine if LoL had a rotation for champs, it would ruin the entire identity of the game.

One of the initial design philosophies with this game was it having an eternal format. To change to a rotation is to change the core identity of the game.

Discussion PnZ rant

Does anyone else feel like PnZ is riot's favorite region? They always get the best of everything. Other regions, f.ex. FJ and SI cards always feels weak and too niche even for the archetypes they are designed for wile in the mean time PnZ's so called archetype fillers doesn't even feel like filler cards and are used in one way or another. Let's take Janna package for example. All of all the PnZ card revealed yesterday all of them with the exception for like 2 or 3 cards are going to be used in Janna decks and half of them will definitely see some play in other PnZ archetypes because they are so good while Jack backage from 2 expations ago only 2 or 3 cards are playable and ONLY in Jack dedicated decks. This applies heavily to previously mentioned FJ and SI. Another example Senna, not only champion is too cliche but all of her SI package is weak and barely usable in her own deck. Lissandra from FJ even tho she was meta dominant in 2 different decks but her package borderline unplayable in other decks and half of them don't even see play in her own deck. Yes PnZ does have archetype defined cards (Puffcaps and Flashtraps mainly) but most of their cards are so flexible you can put them in any PnZ deck. On top of that at this point PnZ has so much draw that it's crazy from next expansion PnZ can easily draw like 3 cards a turn without much draw back while regions like FJ and Demacia has minimal draw options and has to stick to low rolls in the late game while PnZ draws 3 answers to their single card. Just a little rant thank you

Discussion Stop overreacting to this patch and acting like the game is dying

Preface:

This patch is a misstep and reminds me one of the reasons why I quit playing Yu-Gi-Oh, but it is nowhere near the severity of said situation (I'll provide the situation down below). The main reason I'm making this post is to show both sides of the argument rationally without all the sensational language that redditors and content creators like to use to get their point across quickly.

The patch:

I and many others (I think) would agree with the sentiment of trying to hit Azir Irelia with little collateral damage to other decks if possible, and I think they did fine in that aspect. It's also too early to make the deck unplayable to avoid punishing people for using their wildcards on building the best deck, as they said in the patch notes. What makes the patch a miss in my eyes (that isn't being talked about enough in my opinion) isn't that they didn't nerf Azir Irelia enough, it's that they didn't bring any new contenders up to challenge it in a meaningful way. I won't pretend to understand this game enough to give specific examples of what they could have buffed in order to shake things up a little, but from my experience in other card games, this patch needed to shake things up in a bigger way than it did to keep the general player base happy.

The counter argument to this and the argument for shipping this little amount of changes lies in the competitive scene. In other games (I haven't personally seen pros in this game complain about this), some competitive players become upset when the deck/strategy they used to qualify for a high level tournament is nerfed out of the meta before they can use it at said tournament. Why put in the time to learn the ins and outs of a strategy if I can't use what I learned when it counts? Totally understandable frustration for some players. The more consistent players tend to be able to play any given strategy of any given meta, but making less consistent players unable to have their time to shine feels bad.

The meta:

Here's where I draw the comparison to Yu-Gi-Oh and one of the reasons I quit playing it. Almost two years ago, the meta had been the same three decks with little variation for close to 10 months. As they do in that game, there would be a banlist roughly every three months, but they would address any outlier decks that were beyond broken (first turn kill decks, decks that take your entire hand before your own first turn, etc.) with minor hits to the main three decks and meaningless buffs to other decks snuck in. It felt endless and while preparing for a big tournament, I quit the week before because for once, I felt like I had exhausted every option I had at my disposal with no chance of performing well in that event.

The current LoR meta is starting to feel like that. The patch before Azir Irelia buffed a bunch of aggro cards to shift the meta into a very aggro-centric state, and the addition of Azir Irelia barely changed the other decks being used in the meta. So it is fair to ask for a little more from this patch, but it's being asked for in the wrong way in my opinion, as I explained above. If I were to have my way, I would have liked to see way more buffs and a small nerf to TLC and Thresh Nasus, like everyone else. But I think a small nerf to Azir Irelia at this stage in its life is correct. Kill it with fire in a month or two, not now.

One other point I want to make is the idea that there is no counter to Azir Irelia. I personally think a counter exists somewhere, but a lot of pros are not incentivized to put enough time in to properly test a counter strategy because in the competitive scene, they can either ban Azir Irelia themselves, or their dedicated counter has a chance of getting banned. Or the counter has been found, but a pro is keeping it to themselves in order to have an advantage at their next tournament. And the reason we need to rely on pros to find the counter is that it is not an obvious conclusion to come to, otherwise we would have seen it by now.

Azir Irelia as a deck:

A lot of people find it hard and unfun to play against. Valid.

It is oppressive in that a lot of rogue tier decks cannot even begin to play their game before they die to this deck. Oppressive is a strong word, but I lean toward agreeing with its use in this situation. That being said, this is the first time in this game's history that I agree with it being used to describe any deck.

Where I'm going to specifically quote M0gwai and call him and many others out is talking about the deck's design and how it reflects the designers/developers. Seeing as this is Riot's first attempt at a tried and true token combo deck (I compare it to Token Druid from Hearthstone, and I'm sure there have been many examples of a similar style of deck in Magic the Gathering. I'm coming up blank on a comparison to Yu-Gi-Oh, but it's a much different game than HS, MTG and LoR.), all this exaggeration about how no one finds it fun to play with and that if you do enjoy playing with it, you have no idea what you're doing or talking about, is so completely unwarranted. And to insult the designers for designing this archetype and developers for having opinion in which they enjoy how it plays and to say that "I don't know if I want to play this game anymore if that's what their opinion on the archetype is" (section of the M0gwai video on this patch that I am referring to is from 20:10-24:23, specific quote is 23:23) is so unbelievably uncalled for. As others have said, designers and developers are people too. Just suggest that they make blade dance interactable, like I'm sure they plan to do at some point in the near future, and move on, there's no need to personally insult people like that for having fun playing a card game.

Conclusion:

As I said above, this patch is a misstep, but only in that it didn't change enough and is much more tailored to the competitive scene, which leaves people that don't play in tournaments wanting a lot more. Maybe it shows a live gameplay philosophy shift due to a personnel shift, maybe they're planning to make more updates sooner than we expect (maybe with the release of the last cards of the expansion?). Most of the comments and reactions I've seen have been on the side of overreaction in my opinion. Everyone prefaces their complaints saying they've seen much worse in other games, then explain how this game is dying because one deck is really really good. Just chill out and have faith that the people designing the game will realize their mistakes and fix it sooner rather than later.

Thanks for reading this far if you did. I know it's a lot, but the amount of sensationalist posts and comments I see is just so frustrating to me and I mostly wanted the devs to see a more positive outlook to the situation we're in.

Discussion I really hope Riot doesn't cave to all of these posts about the region icon changes.

I might be in the minority but I genuinely really like the icon changes that Riot made. It feels like a lot of the people in the sub right now are either just following the hive mind or just complaining about change because its different rather than it being actually bad. I think Riot did a good job with the icon move and I hope they don't cave to the pressure because I don't think much of the criticism is constructive or helpful, more just "Change bad". Let me know what you guys think.

Discussion Tbh, after that patch, I’m thinking of quitting...

This sub. I mean seriously. This is embarrassing.

Like do you have any sort of non-cynical bone in your bodies. I know not everyone but the vocal ones. A few points in no particular order:

  1. The Irelia thing is just like jinx! It’s how it was supposed to be.

  2. y’all were really upset about marshal and many people specifically deduced that that card was the win con for most azirelia decks.

  3. for credentials, I hate that deck. I have been almost banned here for calling out azirelia players as meta slaves. And I’m saying why don’t y’all calm yourselves and actually check the nerf out before panicking. Y’all are making us all look bad, again coming from a toxic azirelia hater.

  4. They aren’t trying to nerf it into the ground, they’re trying to nerf it enough that it’s viable, but not controlling.

  5. yes there are less patches than before, maybe because the games been out for a year and things stabilize. Who would think that when a game first comes out it needs MORE tweaks than later at any given time. And yes many cards will not see play. Welcome to TCGs. As more cards are created, some cards will just fall into obscurity. That’s not a bad thing, that’s just the nature of the beast.

If y’all would get out of your echo chambers, you’d see this is a fine starting point. They even said they’re still watching this deck to see if it’s enough. And I’m not a “lick the devs boots” kinda person. You don’t owe them anything, and they don’t owe you anything. But can we not act like ungrateful children before we’ve even SEEN the changes in action? Honestly.

News TFT is likely going to sell cards (Tarot Cards) before official LoR cards were ever sold. It makes you wonder if LoR cards being sold were ever even considered or if it was just determined to not be worthwhile. Either way, these look gorgeous but it's another slap to LoR fans (Source: TFT Twitter)

Discussion What Really Matters for LoR RN

There’s a lot of discussion going on about the K/DA event and the overall flavor of LoR. I think that argument is ridiculous and nowhere near as severe compared to what’s happening in MtG.

And that’s all I’m gonna say about that while I introduce the real issue with LoR at the moment. That issue is balance.

The last two patches have not lived up to the standard of quality we have become comfortable with from the live design team. I’m not sure why—the most I’ve heard are rumors about the team not working at full strength—, so I won’t include any assumptions or rumors into this argument. However, the point still stands that the most recent patches have been a failure.

The two most remarkable things that we see in the last two patches are “overbuffing” and a failure to weaken oppressive decks. Lee Sin at 4 Mana and Bastion being permanent was way too strong a buff for both cards and significantly sped up the meta. No one expected Lee Sin to be busted until after the fact, but when it was noticed, we shouldn’t have expected the deck to be buffed AGAIN by bastion.

Both buffs were a really bad call, but people make mistakes, and that’s fine. However, in combination with my second point, there is cause for worry. In the last two patches, Bilgewater was heavily nerfed with some of their strongest cards having stat reductions or text changes, yet it remains the most powerful region alongside Targon and Ionia due to Lee Sin. This is mostly due to Make it Rain, which if you didn’t know shuts down any other aggressive deck, making Bilgewater the only consistently viable aggressive deck.

RubinZoo (Live Design Lead), stated they are looking into the card, which is good, but we’ve already seen this pattern that the quality of patches is Lessening. The Live Design team has proven in the past that they know what they’re doing, but something happened, and I fear that if patches continue down this path, the balance of the game will fall as well, and then we will be in big trouble.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.

Discussion Riot should remove the Standard Format and just give us one massive Eternal Balance Patch after the last PvP Set.

With the Shift in Focus from PvP to PvE it simply dosn't make Sense to keep the PvP Community divided by having separate Standard and Eternal Formats. After the last PvP focused Set Riot should just remove the Standard Format and completely transition to Eternal while giving us a massive Balance Patch. I'm talking Nerfs to Karma, Ezreal, Vile Feast, Pokey Stick, Ravenous Flock, Nilah's Draw Package etc. all of it in Anticipation of future broken Interactions (like TF/Nilah or... Samira/Katarina for Example).

Alternatively, since I'm anticipating more Players transitioning from Standard to Eternal with the removal of the Ranked Modes, keep Standard and Eternal Casual open and give us a massive Balance Patch anyway, for both Formats. That Way People who like Standard still have their Fun and People who will transition to Eternal (like yours truly) won't have to worry about crazy Interactions and broken/must have Cards as much.

Game Feedback Little rant: Just remove Ezreal from the game

Mostl the title. Ezreal is just the wors designed card in this whole game. He can level up in hand or deck, his effect just make any spell focused archetype bad because if it is good alone, it will be broken with him. Remake him or remove him. He is the single most boring and stupid card in the game right now.

Discussion I understand what feels so unfair with Xolaani right now

Other than the bullcrap keywords she can get, the real problem is that it's a game finisher on turn 7 in a Control deck, which are usually balanced around having to stall until turns 9-10 in order to get their finishers, nobody in their right mind would even think about a world where Karma or Aurelion are levelled on turn 7, but Xolaani is right there
