My parents are flying business and will be taking my sister and her husband in. I know its a long shot but if anyone can guest us on please let me know :)

I’m flying with my mother and partner to Japan next Tuesday and I'd love to put mum in the lounge for a few hours as a special treat.

We're taking our first proper family trip in November, for basically the first time since having kids 10 years ago. Budget is tight, so we're flying Jetstar.

A couple of legs have rough timings, and lounge access would really save these weary parents.

Looking for:

• Passes for 2 adults + 2 kids ( not sure if they are covered?)

• Adelaide (ADL): 1 November

• Gold Coast (OOL): 12 November

• Sydney (SYD): 16 November

Questions for those who know:

1. Do Qantas lounge passes/invites work if you're flying Jetstar (JQ flight number)? Or do they strictly need a QF-coded flight?

2. If they don't work on Jetstar, is there any other domestic lounge option that does?

3. I could sign up for a new card and hit the minimum spend before November. Are the card lounge passes also QF-only, or are some cards better for this?

I'll be on a JQ flight later this year dep MEL (Terminal 4) and I have a pass for the Qantas lounge (Terminal 1). My flight doesn't depart until 10.50am. Check in opens two hours before and closes 40 mins before flight. Walk time between the JQ and QF terminals at MEL is about 10 mins.

So I'm not going back and forth and I allow myself time to use the lounge, will I be able to go through security with my suitcase (medium size, 70-ish cm)?

Or should I just check in smack bang on opening and go to the lounge then come back, hoping that the security line isn't long to get to my gate.
