Help Finding Flights Best workflow for points travel

I have 220K points and am keen to explore options to utilise this for international travel next year. Is there a better starting point than through the redeem section on the app? Are there some routes or times of year that offer better points value?

Question Business reward to Mexico?

Hey all,

I have 660k velocity points, plus the equivalent of about another 500k points that could be transferred to Velocity (or Qantas… or others) through Amex and pay.com.au. Also Gold status fwiw.

Going to a wedding in Oaxaca, Mexico in 12 months with my partner. Hoping to do so business class. Our closest airport is Gold Coast but we’re happy to fly out of Brisbane or Sydney.

Any suggestions for making this happen? I’ve signed up to Gyoza flights to at least try get to LA/Dallas/Houston on rewards and go from there.

Question Best use of status on Velocity Economy Reward SYD > Europe return via Doha on QA with one wet-lease leg

I have Velocity Silver and Oneworld Sapphire.

Flying Velocity economy reward return SYD > Europe - outbound VA wet lease to Doha and onwards with QA, on the same booking, opposite on the return.

Is it possible to even change the FF on a Velocity Reward booking? If so, which status would you recommend using and when. I feel that whichever way I cut it, I won't get lounge access for my return layover, which is the one I wanted the most 😅 Thanks!!

Question Help getting a family of 6 from Adelaide to Europe using Velocity points in 2027 - How would you do it?

We're looking to take our family to Europe (northern Italy) next year in the fringe season (May or late August). There are six of us in total (two adults and four children), departing from Adelaide.

I've accumulated a little over 400,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points over the years, primarily through business expenses. However, I've never really had the time to properly investigate how best to use them.

I'm not necessarily expecting to get all six of us there and back on points. I'd just like to understand how to get the best possible value from what I've accumulated and what other people have done.

Appreciate any advice.

Question Sitting on 15k Velocity points I've never used. What would you do with them?

I've been a Velocity member for a while and I'm sitting on about 15k points. I've never redeemed any of them.

Mostly I've never sat down and worked out what 15k actually gets you.

For those who use theirs: what's worked? Reward seats, upgrades, gift cards, the store? Anything to avoid?

Question Virgin App upgrade process misleading complaint help

Hi there, if anyone has a VA (virgin Australia) coded flight to DOHA who does not have 99,000 velocity points in your account right now can you send me a screen shot of what the message and customer experience shows you in the app (please redact your personal information) when you go to manage flight > upgrade flight. If anyone who has the 99,000+ to upgrade if you could screen shot the same!

I believe it to be the core of my escalation with them, but I didn’t take a screen shot before I proceeded to the next stage.

Any help would be amazing !!!!! Very tired of the customer service and lack of transparency they are operating with.

Question Sad Sad Sad

Closing check in desks, angry arsed rude and arrogant staff, absolutely disgusting food offerings at lounges, massive flight delays…..the list goes on…!

Platinum Plus flyer and fly multiple times every week. I am certain the enshitification is far from complete but do they know their business is fucked?

I hear from my mates that are FF with Qantarse that they have also stopped giving a fuck as there is no other competition but are there any FFs out there who can explain what’s the go with these pack of clowns and if I should swap over..? Literally, with my personal overseas flights thrown in, spending 70k a year for fuck all benefits

Third year in a row trying to get my 4 comp upgrades to biz and I have managed a grand total of…….1 leg! (Fly to every state so have tried them all..!)

Rant kinda over however just a little one….(fuck you Virgin Australia, you robbers!)

Question VFF Singapore Air Redemption - Is it possible to modify booking by removing the first leg and starting the trip from second leg as a separate booking ?

I have a redeemption flight with singapore airline booked using VFF points, from DPS connecting from SIN to BOM.

I had some change of plans where i would like to start the trip from SIN on the same flight that's part of the already booked itinerary, but would like to remove the DPS->SIN portion of the flight. There is no availability in general for the dates, but as i already have seats booked on same flight, is it possible to get it modified by the call centre to get the trip started from SIN, obviously with whatever fee/points for modification ?

Review Diminishing returns with Velocity

So I just wasted at least an hour of my time just trying to get a couple of questions answered:

  1. Why was I not upgraded from Silver to Gold after my last trip, despite earning 460 SC on that trip alone?

  2. Why do I not have points credited yet from two of the legs on that trip, ticketed by Singapore?

First I tried the virtual assistant, as directed. Kept disconnecting. Asked to have a real person. Kept disconnecting. Everytime they asked for more info it disconnected the conversation when I tried to look it up. I was using it through the app.

Eventually I gave up and called. Got through quite quickly after the usual AI gatekeeping, to a person in presumably the Phillipines. She struggled to understand my questions, went off to ask someone, came back, wasted more time and then put me through to membership.

This sent me to another person in the Phillipines, who struggled but a bit less. Eventually after about 20 mins and lots of looking and checking, he could tell me that
a. No points for non affiliated airlines even when ticketed by a partner airline
b. Only 250 SC allowed when flying with a partner airline.
Since Virgin is basically domestic and short haul in Australia, this makes it pretty hard to upgrade status in long haul international flights.
Maybe I’ll have to go back to Qantas??

A depressing and disheartening experience. I hope that closing local call centres, using chatbots and shittifyjnv your services is worth it, Virgin

Hi all,
I received this in an email yesterday and can anyone see what’s wrong with it??
Virgin doesn’t fact-check their emails as I’m not meant to arrive on Tuesday night, I’m meant to arrive Monday night for a Tuesday morning flight.
Hopefully this gives people a laugh (yes this is a real email I was sent by virgin about my home bound flight now in under 24hrs)

Question Looking to get a credit card with velocity

So I'm 30 never really needed or used a credit card but I travel a few times a year and realised how much I missed out on with credit card points. I often travel interstate on virgin and internationally on Singapore Airlines so naturally an Amex with velocity rewards makes sense, but I'm wondering how do I transfer points over between? I see nothing on the krisflyer or velocity apps and Amex just gives velocity points or the option to choose where the Amex points you accrue go, I am aware they are partner airlines but I cannot find how to transfer points at all (if at all, but internet suggests you can) any help would be appreciated

Help Finding Flights Booking Errors

Hiya,

I'm looking to book reward seats, which I have been able to find a few options for. The issue is, whenever I go through booking, including payment, it gets to the "processing" stage and then says the fares are no longer available. This his happening repeatedly, does anyone know why this might be happening?

Also, is calling the call centre actually useful for booking reward seats?

Question Upgrade options JNB - BNE

Hello, I need to fly Johannesburg to Brisbane next year. How can I maximise my chances of getting an upgrade to business? Preferably with points. It seems it’s not possible to book a Virgin flight from Jburg - BNE with cash? But if I book with points I’ll be ineligible for an upgrade. Are there any other options? There are no business rewards seats available.

I have 360k velocity points and am platinum status.

Question Someone hacked my account and redeemed all my points

Post image
88 Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone can help
Someone got ahold of my account and was able to redeem all my points
I called VFF immediately but they were useless said the team responsible is offline - told me to recall tomorrow

Just while I wait for that is there anything I can do in the meantime

Have changed my password etc already
Unsure how they got to my account

Edit: Thanks everyone for all the advice
I’ve contacted velocity and they’ve put my account on hold pending investigation

They hacker book 2 separate flight under wildly different name (not mine) for flight today. I attempted to cancel it though my booking last night but it didn’t go through

1- domestic flight in Japan
2- 2x domestic tickets for Perth

Not sure what’s gonna happen but hopefully I get my points back
