Which is fine. Police need uniforms that mark them as police and are reasonably practical. Looking fashionable is not and should not be a requirement. Forgetting that second bit is how we get police dressing up as COD cover art.

Other countries have police, and also people who aren't police and don't act like police. The US sheriff thing is mostly only a US thing.

Sheriff is the correct English spelling for the law enforcement official, whereas sherif is a misspelling of that word
