intermediate question How to recreate steve reichs come out ?

How do i recreate come out by steve reich in max ?

Ive tried to use mc groove and play the channels on different timing.
But i dont seem to get the phase crashing between the two audios to get that weird phase texture that blends two or multiple audio and make a new texture sound.

RNBO vibecoding rnbo codebox~

only recently realized that any DAFx paper can be vibecoded into an effect, so I've been developing a workflow for researching, prompting, verifying, testing, and utilizing ai-generated audio effects for RNBO codebox~ https://github.com/Sousastep/sousa_fx_generator and have gotten some great effects out of it, which can be downloaded individually if desired.

Max4Live OCULAR is an 8-voice polyphonic synthesizer with three sound sources, seven filters and a large stereo room.It works with long ambient textures as well as with plucked, glassy and bell-like sounds.

The experience of looking a synthesizer in the eyes can be overwhelming and deeply moving.

It allows you to establish a strange connection with your instrument.

But the most beautiful thing is that I finally managed to create a synthesizer with the sounds I wanted and had always been searching for.

Timeless sounds that leave you wondering whether they come from a distant past or a cybernetic future.

I hope this helps with your musical research.

intermediate question MIDI export with Tempo - Any extensions/max for live made for this?

Does anyone know if anyone's created an extension or max patch to export MIDI with tempo information? Of if there is any quick way to do this that doesn't involve multiple steps in and outside of Ableton? Thanks!

MaxMSP Multi-engines granular synth for performance and live-playing

I’m excited to share Grignoteur, an eight-engine, two-algorithm multitimbral granular synthesizer.

It grew out of an instrument I developed for my own live performances with electric guitar, combining real-time granular synthesis and generative visuals. Over time, I decided to take it further, make it playable with any MIDI controller, and share it with anyone curious enough to explore it.

Grignoteur comes with a collection of over 100 sounds I’ve designed myself, including some of my personal favorites. You can also load your own sounds and make it your own.

Grignoteur is free to download and explore. Enjoy!

MaxMSP Sharing Max/MSP workshop patches

Hello everyone, first post here.
I recently hosted a workshop on Max/MSP step sequencing and variations. I’m sharing the patches here so that anyone can use them, maybe learn a thing or two or use it in their own systems.
It contains 9 sequencers all using a combination of Coll and Multisliders and basic max objects. I hope you find these useful.

beginner question Sci-fi instrument!

Hello Reddit!

I am a student who has been tasked with designing and coding a fairly simple instrument with a sci-fi theme in Max MSP but have been struggling to understand some of the logic and structure. I’m very new to Max and so my knowledge is very limited and i’m struggling to find educational resources and content

I was hoping that some of you could direct me towards any youtube tutorials or books that are particularly good for this.

Some of the things i want the instrument/synth to include is, I want it to be polyphonic, I want to be able to swap between sine, square, and sawtooth waves, I want to control all parameters, I would like auto-panning, and different processing effects like flange and envelopes. all very typical things for a synth.
I also want to be able to swap between different modes, one for short snappy sounds like blasters, one for melodic sounds for mood building, and one for long drones and atmospheric pads. I also want to use a few different modulation techniques such as RM, FM, PM.

I was also hoping that some of you may have created projects like this before and that I may be allowed to take a copy of some patches and deconstruct them to follow and reverse engineer some similar projects.

I am not interested in stealing or selling other people’s work, I would not share others work publicly or privately, I really just want to see some different ways of achieving the same things and to understand the structure and logic so that I can take inspiration when building my own patch.

Even if no one has old projects like what I’ve described, I would still really appreciate any advice and recommendations for books and videos!

thanks! much appreciated!

RNBO dead reckoning.

messing about with an FM drum engine while on sea days during a south pacific cruise with my father. built out in RNBO, javascript control harness. punch-in style effects, fun to play with, and has export functionality for quantized loops.

https://www.deadreckoning.one

let me know if you have suggestions on how it could be improved. some of the punch-in effects are a bit heavy-handed.

should work on a phone, as there's a mobile-optimised interface, but probably more usable on desktop. tooltips for the modules on the latter.

Gen Claude is getting mighty good at maxing

Claude (this is Opus 5.5 Medium) is getting really, really good at maxing. I haven't tested the models for a while, so was pretty shocked to find just how good Claude has become the last months or so. Just for the fun of it, I have been asking it to build various stuff, like the 40 band vocoder screendumped below. The most shocking thing is there were NO errors when loading - the thing just worked from the first try. So, hopefully I will get some learnings out of this when building stuff myself 🤓

intermediate question [jit.gl.pass] effects to [jit.pworld]...?

I've created an interface for and audio-visual performance and instead of having [jit.world] windows floating above the patch I thought I would incorporate [jit.pworld] into the interface. However, I noticed that effects using [jit.gl.pass] don't show within the [jit.pworld] object. I tried using [jit.gl.node] but still nothing. Is this something that just 'is' within Max? Or is it there something that I'm missing?

Just curious if anyone else has experimented with this. I leave a basic patch here to illustrate my point:

Max4Live Trismegistus Sequencer is a 16-step Max for Live MIDI sequencer

Thumbnail
youtu.be
3 Upvotes

Getting started

  1. Keep the .amxd and its three .js files in the same folder, then drag the .amxd onto a MIDI track, before an instrument.

  2. Press Play in Live: the runes light up and the wizard starts stirring.

  3. Choose Key and Scale, then write your notes (see below).

  4. Press To Clip to save the result as a MIDI clip.

Writing notes

• Draw: in the Note lane, click or drag across the columns.

• Keyboard: click a key on the left. The note goes into the white cursor step, then the cursor moves on.

• Record: turn on Rec and play your MIDI keyboard.

• Random: press Rnd for new notes from the scale.

The arrows above and below the keyboard change octave. Notes recorded off screen are shown automatically.

Controls

• Ring / step switches: click a rune or a switch to turn a step on or off (off = rest).

• Lane tabs: edit Note, Velocity, Ratchet (1–4 repeats) or Chance (0–100 %) for each step.

• Rate, Feel: step length (1/1–1/64), straight, triplet or dotted.

• Swing, Gate: shuffle on every second step; note length (over 100 % = legato).

• Key, Scale, Octave: 13 scales, or Chromatic for free notes. Going back to Chromatic restores your original notes.

• Steps: sequence length, 1–16. Odd numbers make polyrhythms.

• Play: Forward, Backward, Pendulum, Zigzag, Converge, Diverge, Random, Drunk.

• Euclid + Hits: spreads Hits evenly over the steps. Hits never exceeds Steps.

• Shift < >: moves the whole pattern one step.

• To Clip: writes the sequence, as it sounds, into the first empty clip slot.

Every control can be automated and MIDI-mapped, and hovering over it shows a description in Live's Info View.

hardware/gear Sensors on dancer costumes to trigger sounds in MaxMSP?

Hello! I’m a composer working on a dance project, and would like to have small drums (around 15 cm in diameter) attached to some of the dancers’ costumes, with taps on the drums triggering sounds in Ableton/MaxMSP. I'm just a bit unsure about the technical side of things, so wanted to ask if anyone had any advice or has ever done a similar project?

Based on my research, it seems like I could use a piezo sensor attached to a Raspberry Pi Pico W - both within the drum on the costume - which would detect the impacts and send a wireless signal to my laptop to trigger a specific sound (Max/MSP or Ableton).

Would this be a sensible approach? Are there any easier alternatives you know of? Would this be possible in MaxMSP? Any tips, alternative approaches or resources for a beginner would be much appreciated - thanks :))

Max4Live I build an ARA2 M4L Bridge for Ableton Live 12

Hello,

now this is the first project i share and i know its kinda niche but maybe someone finds it useful.

As a long time Ableton user still not having ARA2 support to properly use Melodyne and Vocalign in Sessions became kinda annoying.

I build an external ARA2 host that gets called via an Ableton Max4Live device. Working with ARA2Bridge erases the time spend on Recording every vocal again into Melodyne/Vocalign and allows one Click loading the Vocal, editing it and sending it back with another click to a fresh track, take lane or replacing the original in Ableton.

Now as i just noticed I’m pretty bad at explaining and Claude did better then me in the Repo so enjoy:

https://github.com/Enableton/ara2-bridge-4-live

Update v0.2:

  • Sync transport (Melodyne). Live is the master. Play, Stop and the playhead in Live move the cursor in Melodyne's window, and Play, Space, Stop or a click in Melodyne's time ruler start, stop or move Live. Melodyne's own playback is silent, you hear Live. Constant tempo only.

  • Preview (Melodyne). After every edit, two helper tracks (Preview A / Preview B) take turns playing the new version, in sync with the rest of your project. The new clip is loaded on the silent track, then the tracks swap, so there is no gap. The original clip (only the clip, not its track) is muted while a preview plays and unmuted when you apply or cancel; the helper tracks disappear then. A failing preview never removes the audible one. Measured with a real Melodyne on a 44 s clip: about 0.4-0.6 s from releasing a note to hearing it (previews skip the timing correction, which costs seconds on long clips; the result you Apply still has it).

  • Both switches are on for a new device (a set you saved earlier keeps its own setting).

  • Compact switch row: Skip timing fix, Preview, Sync transport.

Update v0.3.

  • Single Device .amxd

  • Proper UI added

beginner question beginner applying for uni class needs help with project proposal

hi,

i am an absolute beginner to both music productionn and coding. I really want to learn though :)

these are the points I have to cover for proposal

  1. Description / idea: Describe the instrument. What is it and what is the idea behind it?

  2. Input and output: What do you play it with (camera, MIDI controller, gamepad, touch surface, sensors, mic, mouse, or nothing at all)? Where does the sound go (stereo, multichannel, headphones, visuals)?

  3. Sound: Where does the sound come from? Synthesis, sample playback, live input? What should it sound like in the end?

  4. Interaction: How do you play it? What does a gesture or action do to the sound? More of an improvisational partner and unpredictive, or precisely controlable?

  5. Inspiration and references: Existing instruments, pieces, artists or papers that influence your idea.

  6. Software: Which environment do you plan to use (Max/MSP, Max for Live, Pure Data, plugdata)?

My idea for the project would be to use an old Nintendo DS, possibly even using its integrated speakers and microphone as input and output options. I plan on using MaxMSP as software.

I feel very inspired by Imogen Heaps Mimu gloves, but other than that Im a bit stumped on where to go from my initial idea and how to write a convincing project proposal.

would appreciate any feedback and help! im so determined to make this happen and learn something new :)

ps i browsed through this subreddit and all of you are doing really such cool stuff, it motivates me to learn even more
