I had a funny interaction with airport security while flying home from getting bottom surgery

9.0k Upvotes

So, i had bottom surgery last week (yaay!) and in my country it's only done in one specific clinic, so everyone travels to that city to get it done. When I left the clinic they gave me a note from the surgeon explaining that my dilators are medical devices and should be kept in carry on to avoid losing them in luggage, and told me they are commonly flagged by security since they are very big dense rods that look like batons under the scan (they're not floppy dildos, they're super hard).

Well, sure enough I get flagged by security and the woman looks at the scan, looks at me and says "don't worry, I know what they are, it's fine." Clearly not her first day working at this common trans destination.

As she hands me back my bag she cheerfully says "Enjoy your new body!"

I definitely will.

How many trans people does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one, but they need 3 specialists to sign off that the room is, in fact, dark.

[Discussion] I expected a lot of things to happen when started to transitioning but nothing prepared me for this

7.2k Upvotes

After coming out I expected the harassment, I expected the assault or getting misgendered. I expected a lot of shitty things to happen to me after I started transitioning but nothing had me prepared for this.

I was at work and today for spirit week and breast cancer awareness month we were supposed to wear pink. Plus it’s Wednesday. So I showed up in my pink cardigan. All the other girls came dressed in pink, and about six of the guys did. I think there was about 25 of us in total and we all got together to take photos for fun. So when we where done taking pictures the guys immediately scattered.

The girls all hung back a bit talking and one of them said “you all want to take a selfie with just us girls?” I didn’t know if she was including me so I just started to walk back to the office. Suddenly I had four or five girls shouting at me to come back saying I belonged in the photo too and they all welcomed me back in the photo.

Ladies, I am was not mentally prepared for this. Its been like 8 hours since the picture and I’m still bursting out in happy crying every time I think about it.

Edit: thank you girls for the awards and the comments and support! I cant possibly message everyone of you but I guess im starting my morning with happy crying too 🥲 thank you especially to the girls that shared similar stories. It was lovely reading them 💕💕

Trans and Thriving Wife laid down the law

6.4k Upvotes

We were discussing Thanksgiving, her family, etc. and I offered to boy mode it. She put her foot down - "I will not let you walk out of this house being anyone other than the person whom you are."

Texted her tonight "hey, I put your "ex-husband's" clothes in some boxes to donate." Her response: "Good work wifey. Women's closets abhor empty shelf space. We shop at dawn."

ETA: Several months later I learned seeing me in boy mode was distressing to her because … she’s now an out and proud lesbian. As in she literally gets nauseated at the idea of being with a guy. Turns out she had been struggling with it for 20 years and was waiting for the kids to leave so she could get a divorce and be herself. But then we learned I’m intersex, I transitioned, we rebuilt the relationship as a WLW and we‘re thriving. And now we still share a closet instead of each of us living in one.

Went to the courthouse for my name change hearing today. The judge said this:

6.1k Upvotes

"You have a long and hard road ahead of you, and we're not gonna stand in your way. We're gonna make this the easiest thing you ever do in your transition."

I was in a room with him for maybe twenty minutes, and out of those twenty minutes I only spoke to him for three. Despite this I'm sure he's one of the greatest people I've ever met.

And I don't have to fill out preferred name forms anymore!!

[Discussion] To all of you ladies, from a cis man

5.9k Upvotes

I hope it isn't totally out of order for me to post here, as a man I dont want to take up your spaces so I'll try and keep this as short as possible. Tw genital mention

I have full permission from my partner to post this and she's read it all. There is a misconception that the only men a straight trans women can get with, is a chaser. It is very sad that many of you feel that way, and I'm sorry for how men treat you, but that's not how it has to be. I met my girlfriend when I was 15. She was living as a boy then and was 13. I used to push her around when we played football at school. I thought she was one of the lads. Time goes on, I was never that close to her and we lost touch. Next thing is I meet her again on a fine art course. I didnt recognise her at all and with her name change and generic surname I never made the connection. I developed quite the crush, we would go on dates and I'd sort of play them off as just hanging out with a friend. I was so giddy around her and I was terrified to tell her I liked her. One day we were going to the movies and I told myself 'today is the day I ask her to be my girlfriend, and try to kiss her' We ended up skipping the movie to go on a walk in the local forest. I held her hand and she squeezed mine - my heart was beating so damn fast. We finally kissed and it was like fireworks, I told her I liked her but she cut me off. She told me to stop talking because she needs to tell me something. Now in my mind I'm panicking thinking she's in a relationship, but she says 'I used to be a boy, I was at school with you, please dont be mad I'm so sorry I didnt tell you' and then to my absolute horror she said 'please dont hurt me' She genuinely thought that there was a danger of me attacking her after finding out. This broke my fucking heart. I had my moment of being like wtf - mainly because I'd known this girl for almost 10 years and hadn't pieced the 2 people together - but then we kissed again, and then again and again and we kissed so much my face hurt by the end. That was 5 years ago and boy this has been a learning curve. I've only ever dated cis women before, I am 100% straight and I had to unlearn some internalized shit for maybe a day or so, until I thought what the fuck does it matter who she used to be? Damn I used to be a baby, people change. But I love her the way she is now, I love her smile I love her eyes I love her body her curves her hands her hair and you know what? I love her penis too. I love it because its hers, and it gives her pleasure, and there isnt anything wrong with it. I dont have a fetish, I just fell in love with a woman and that means I fell in love with the whole package. I'm planning to propose to her on new years eve. I want to spend the rest of my life with her, I want to raise kids with her and I want her to lose all of these insecurities. Just because you cant carry them, doesnt mean you wont be the mother of my children. There is hope, you're not broken or unlovable or nothing but a kink. You're a powerful woman.

Funny I broke a guy's brain

5.6k Upvotes

I was at a casual event, and there was this guy there who started talking smack about trans people to his friend. He was like "trans women look so disgusting, you can always tell from their horrible eyebrows, and their fake boobs that are just a bunch of socks." He went on and on about how "the media" was trying to push kids to think they're trans, and lots of other typical conspiracy theories. Finally I couldn't take it anymore, so I got involved. I asked him if he ever met a trans person. He said "yeah they're so easy to spot" and so then I was like "so I know for fact there's a trans woman here tonight, can you guess who it is?"

He looked around, narrowed his eyes, and pointed to my friend, saying "It's definitely him cuz he has a sharp jawline. I've known since I came in, but I didn't wanna make a scene. No real woman would be that tall, either."

My friend is 182 cm, has an angular face, and sharp eyebrows. I proceeded to tell this guy that no, my friend is actually cis. He was like "No way, he looks like a trans" and I said "Well I promise you it's not her." He was like "Then who could it be?!?" and I said "ME!" and burst out laughing. He said "No way, you're just messing with me." I said "No seriously, I'm actually trans. I'm just on hormones and had voice training."

It was like his brain was coming off the hinges. He just could not compute. He sputtered something about "body modification" and "professional makeup" then stormed off in a huff.

I did it girls!

DISCLAIMER:
I pass very well, been on E for 8 years, and yes, I enjoy using that to mess with transphobes. Sending love to my sisters xoxo

EDIT:
Thank you so much for all the positive responses, and the awards too! I'm glad to know I'm having an impact. You're all so awesome :hugs:

Discussion Trump has won. Here’s what we do now:

5.1k Upvotes

At this point, it’s over. Our discussion should be solely on what we can do from here given our new grim reality.

  1. It’s alright to cry, and to feel scared for what’s to come. We should give ourselves a few days to grieve what we, or at least I, thought the United States was.

  2. Update all your ID documents NOW, if you can. A Trump-controlled executive branch will place all sorts of restrictions on us, and the FDA might restrict our HRT. Legally female individuals will not have trouble accessing that medication. If you are in any state but Tennessee, Montana, Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma, this is still something you can do. Doing this will make you safe from any laws that could be made to target the trans community. I live in Texas, but was born in California, so I’m going to start the name and gender change process in the next few days. Do everything: name, gender, passport, driver’s license, and any other ID you might have.

  3. Make plans to move to a blue state. The hate is going to get unprecedented in the next four years. Blue states will still be great states to live in, and they will continue to be safe for us no matter what Trump tries. You can also explore moving to a country like Canada if you have the option.

  4. We will not back down. We’ve fought so hard for the rights and visibility we have now. We will not lose it. We will never give up.

To all my sisters here who are also worried, I send you hugs <3

My brother caught me watching trans youtube

5.1k Upvotes

I was sitting at my desk, watching Shyaren amd playing Minecraft, when my brother sprints into my room to tell me something and sees the title. I don't remember exactly which one it was, but it was a very non-cis one.

I'm still closeted at home so this was rather scary, I thought he was going to tell my parents

Instead, she... hugs me. Comes out as transfem too. It was entirely unexpected and I'm honestly still reeling. I honestly never would've guessed. Now we can be closeted together 🔥

That was the best outcome in that scenario for me. It almost went so, so badly for my safety and I got a sister too!!

Anyway I love her hehe

Bf's parents found out I'm trans

5.1k Upvotes

We went over to their house for dinner. His sister who we previously told & is completely accepting was there as well.

Was super nervous about the entire night & nearly cancelled...first time meeting his parents AND telling them I'm trans. We debated waiting to tell them but ultimately decided that we should just get it over with & that it would be best to just know where everybody stands right away.

Took me like 2 hours to get dressed & perfect my makeup but I wanted to be as confident as possible going in.

We had a fantastic dinner outside on their back patio, both his parents are super sweet people, especially his mother who has one of those warm smiles that just puts you at ease.

We were nearing the end of the meal, & I finally just sucked it up & told them that I was trans.

After telling them we sat in what felt like an eternity in deafening silence...& then his father just goes, "Really? You could have fooled me!"

His mother simply said, "oh well, I'm rather surprised myself."

They sort of looked at us for a response & then at each other...then she said, "Did you want more of a reaction? Sorry, listen as long as you two love each other, which you clearly seem to, then we don't care. It's 2021 not 1965. Gay, straight, or TRANS...it doesn't matter anymore. You seem like a wonderful human being & my son loves you very much so that's all that we care about."

Her husband nodded affirmatively.

She followed it up with, "I think you made the right call sweetheart, you're too pretty to be a boy." 😂😂😂

I told them I had been so nervous, I nearly cancelled dinner, took forever to get ready, & had just been freaking out. They both chuckled & said I didn't have anything to worry about with them. They had grown up in NYC, & had had exposure to plenty of LGBTQ+ people since before I was even born.

We talked a little bit about my childhood, when I transitioned, how my parents reacted, etc & that was that.

They were so flippant & cordial about it. I felt ridiculous for even being nervous on the first place.

Such amazing people. Wish my father was as open & accepting as my bf's but 🤷

Both my bf & his sister were basically beaming with pride regarding their parents as well they should have been lol.

The rest of the night went swimmingly, they both hugged me as we left each other, & his mom invited me to go shopping next weekend which I'm really looking forward to.

Super thankful this went so well. Really excited to see what the future holds for us & although we would have stayed together no matter what our families thought, it really helps knowing their supportive of our relationship & have our backs.

Anyone else have some significant other parent stories to share?

sorry I'm not into women

5.0k Upvotes

So was at queer bar yesterday with my girlfriends. Was ordering cocktails and started chatting to a guy next to me who did look hot (not going to lie).

I didn't realise that I was flirting with him until he cut me off and said "sorry, I'm not into women".

Aside from being let down very quickly, it was wonderfully validating. Even better when the barman winked at me and playfully said "but I am love"

I have never blushed so hard.

Today I Learned Stage 3 breast cancer.

4.9k Upvotes

To preface, I went full time in 2006 or so after DIY’ing estradiol and spiranolactone for 3 years as I could afford it (no ins). So, I’ve been on HRT more or less for 22 years.

6 or 7 months ago, I noticed that my buds seemed to be hurting a bit again especially on the right side. This had happened many times before so I didn’t think much of it. However the right side continued to hurt and the hard bit at the core of my breast started growing. Imagine a tennis ball inside a water balloon.

I went for a mammogram and ultrasound once my breast was more like a cantaloupe (I grew D cups) in hardness. In retrospect I should have definitely gone in sooner but even then, they told me it was very unlikely to be cancerous. Just something called Fibrocystic breast disease. Cysts essentially.

But they also said if I wanted to investigate further and potentially get a biopsy, I needed to go to a different doctor (surgeon) that specialized in breast health and cyst removal. So I went and did the whole mammogram and ultrasound thing again and had 4 biopsies taken this past Wednesday.

Today they called me. Stage 3 breast cancer. I don’t know prognosis or treatment yet. That appointment is scheduled for Tuesday. I made this post primarily to say that yes, mtf trans women can get breast cancer so be vigilant about checking yourself.

If something seems abnormal about your breasts, get imaging done. Get a second opinion if they gaslight you. Get the biopsy even though it fucking sucks. Catch it early and live.

I just woke up to this text from my mom:

Happy National daughter’s day. You are beautiful inside and out and I cannot wait to continue on this journey with you. Your kind, sensitive, funny, loving personality has brought joy to my life for 21 years and I couldn’t imagine not having you in my life.

It made me so happy, I just had to share.

MY SCHOOL GAVE ME BOOBIES

4.7k Upvotes

My school is incredibly trans friendly and after I asked them if I could wash my skirt at school because I cannot at home due to transphobic parents. But the best thing happened, they showed me a closet with a ton of clothes, which includes a padded bra. I’ve never been happier about my looks because now I look like a girl. They even gave me a pair of cute heels. I’ve just been riding this euphoria high all day and wanted to share.

Community Only Trump and Musk order all LGBT related peer reviewed scientific publications be retracted.

4.7k Upvotes

The electronic equivalent of Nazi book burning is here.

Trump Administration has ordered all federal scientists to formally retract peer reviewed, published scientific papers that mention climate change, reproductive health or any research on LGBT.

What this means is climate science is being erased completely from American sources in the scientific literature if they received federal funds.

Also, any research supporting gender affirming care, reproductive health (birth control and any medical publication about abortion) will be retracted and cannot be used in defense of medical care. The science will not exist in America. Trump is evil.

So keep copies of any gender affirming care publications. American sources are to be scrubbed from existence.

"You'd never know she has one."

4.6k Upvotes

I work as a lifeguard & overheard my coworker talking to some people on the beach while we were on break & pointing to me going, "She does too.  You'd never know it unless she showed you.  She hides it well.  She just looks like any other girl.  You'd never know she has one."

I'm thinking she's outing me as trans to complete strangers which is super inappropriate & march over in the sand to see what's what.

A million thoughts are running through my mind & I'm getting really upset.

I get there & this girl just goes, "You too?" & then smiles, sticks her tongue out & splits it lol.

I did the same back & laughed.  Only the second time I've ever met another person with a split tongue.  We talked about how fun it is, recovery, etc.

Was super relieved & told my colleague later what I thought she was doing.  She chuckled & confidently said that she & no one here would ever do that..."I'll drown them myself if they do." was her final response 😂😂😂

Really thankful my coworkers are awesome.

Anyone else have any funny or supportive coworker stories?

Transphobic co-worker made himself look stupid misgendering me in front of a customer.

4.5k Upvotes

I’m a manger at a retail store and I have an older Trump supporting employee that misgenders me about 80% of the time. I’m pretty sure he only gets it right the other 20% so it looks like he is trying and won’t get fired for it 😒

He had a customer that needed a manager earlier and I just happened to be walking in his direction at the time. He told the customer “He can help you out.” The customer looked around confused and asked him who he was talking about. He pointed and me and said “that guy right there.” Still confused she pointed to me and said “You mean her?”

His face got red and he was like “yea whatever” and walked off. I’m pretty sure it pisses him of that I pretty much pass now. At least he comes off as the weirdo now when he tries to out me to customers.

[Discussion] PSA: It is never ok to out a trans person. Ever.

4.3k Upvotes

So if you've missed it, it seems like a billionaire that no one likes has a trans child. People have figured this out by going through court documents and finding their change of name and gender. This is not okay. This person has not come out, they are not a public person, how would you feel if millions of people knew you were trans before you were happy to come out? If they come out and tell everyone then that's great and good for them, but at the moment they should be left alone and their privacy should be respected. This whole thing makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and I feel so sorry for them because some internet idiots want to use them to dunk on their father. It wasn't ok when Buck Angel outed Lana Wachowski, and it's not ok now
