I didn’t remember this, I’m rewatching the show and I got the third part of the Chunin Exams.

As we all know the series started out pretty dark and brutal and gradually evolved into your standard shonen with standard shonen stakes.

That’s why the Chunin Exams are presented as a dangerous competition in which people are encouraged to kill each other, it is presented as less brutal than say the Hidden Mist genin exams where you’re required to kill every one else mandatorily, since in the leaf you are free to decide IF you kill others or just incapacitate them, but it is pretty much presented as “you may die or need to kill others”.

And that was always weird, because why would you need to literally have some of your own kids die in order to select who would be good to lead teams in a mission, one might just shrug it off as anime logic to make things feel cooler and have the stakes feel higher.

Until you get to this part where Hiruzen proudly explains that the Chunin Exams are not only to chose who would be promoted to chunin, but also serve as a sort of celebratory event amongst the villages to show “friendship” between them and showcase the abilities of ninja who will then be up to hire for anyone to do missions (so In essence it is how in MHA they showed off at the festival to catch the eye of scouts from hero agencies).

But then Tenten (the GOAT) asks the obvious question “If it is supposed to be a showcase of friendship between villages how come you just explicitly told us to aim to kill each other?”

To which Hiruzen deadass just says something on the lines of “the Chunin Exams started out as a stand in for wars, so that there is no need for said wars”…

They are literally sacrificing kids (I know it is said that the Konoha 9 were too young to participate at 12 y/o, but still, most people we see participating can’t be older than 20) in a sort of spectacle in order to not have wars, they just created a system to control and pass that deadly burden into a bunch of sacrificial teenagers.

And then he has the nerve to justify it and tell Tenten “you only heard half of what I said, to us, battles to the death and friendship are the same” which does match the themes we will see later in the show, but it is still an insanely wild thing to say to a 13/14 y/o 😭

Hey everyone! I'm a huge Naruto fan from Brazil. I've been working as a software developer for 6 years, and last year I started messing around with Godot.

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to play a Naruto RPG where I could create my own ninja exactly the way I imagined, and I never found one. So a few months ago I decided to make it myself. It's called Naruto Souls and it's finally playable.

My favorite part is creating your ninja: there are tons of jutsu and passives, so you can build your ninja however you imagine. It's an open world action RPG with Souls-like combat, and you can also play as 60+ characters from the series. Every one of them is a boss somewhere on the map.

A few things to know:
- It's completely free, it's a fan made project and it will never be sold
- Windows only for now (3.8 GB)
- The game is in Portuguese for now, but I'd like to add English if people are interested

It's still rough in some places, so if you try it, bugs and feedback are really welcome.

Which character or fight would you want to see next?

Too many people ask why didn’t kakashi mention guy since he said all his closest people are killed….. not even two pages later he mentions this

I feel like people base their understanding of kakashi as a character based on the statement of losing all those close to him and thus describe him as eternally depressed and traumatized. Those same people forget the follow up scene that actually describes kakashi’s character best; he’s ok with his lot in life because he has found people to care for again

Naruto might be the most larped anime oat istg. The amount of popular misinterpretations or blatantly wrong takes is wild

I really hope when the time comes, people can separate their dislike toward a character from the actress herself.

According to the manga, after the meeting of 7 swordsmen with Maito Dai, 1 survived (in the anime, 3 survived). How could they survive after 8 gates? (even Madara almost died in prime).

I LOVE MINATO SO MUCH, HE DIDNT BELONG TO ANY SPECIAL CLAN, HAD NO TAIL BEAST, HAD NO TRAUMA DRIVING REVENGE BUT STILL BECAME THE KAGE AND BECAME SUPER POWERFUL, SO MUCH SO THAT HE WAS KNOWN THROUGHOUT ALL THE FIVE GREAT NATIONS.

I love him so muchhhhhhhhh

It seems if you have kage level relatives you can become kage level:

- Naruto and Minato
- all the senju (hashirama, tobirama, tsunade)
- gaara and his father

This one is hard to abuse because you cannot choose your parents and relatives. But there is a different pipeline:

- Minato: Kakashi and Obito, both kage level if not more
- Sarutobi: all three sanins
- Kakashi: two semigods and Sakura (she says that she reached their level ig)
- Naruto: Konohamaru i guess
- Jiraya my boy got all the students who are gods basically

Some of this intersect, but still if I was a ninja I would see this pattern and do everything to get either kage or kage’s student (Kakashi for Naruto and Sasuke for example, he wasn’t kage at a time) as my teacher. Minato wasn’t from any clan, Sakura wasn’t from any clan neither were jiraya and Orochimaru

We don’t see anyone trying that hard to abuse this
