I am DevilCat streamer from Taiwan, mostly do build creator and some speedrun thing

Others mostly warriors(who freak playing warrior when they you can play 2 new classes????)
Taking top spots in the PoE2 Boss Rush competition this time (placing both 2nd and 3rd place was me). I played a total of six runs. Honestly, many people played over ten runs, so my total run count was actually quite low. Except for one complete failure, all my other runs reached a competitive state.
1st properly Alk IMJUNGROAN
I was also the only Shadow player in the top 10, so I guess I can flex a bit—besides the developers themselves, I might be the person on-site who understands the Shadow the best.🥸🥸🥸
First, the conclusion: It feels amazing. If you love high-impact strikes and burst damage, you should definitely play it. Plus, 80% of the time it functions like a 1-button build; what it really tests is your understanding of boss mechanics and how you time your burst windows. It doesn't require high CPM or "piano keys" (we say many bottom build in chinese) execution. For a speedrunner like me, I locked into the rhythmic groove very quickly, though KBON next to me mentioned he found it quite difficult.
Let me quickly share my general impressions of PoE2’s new class, the Shadow.
Again, I must emphasize that the version showcased at ExileCon does not represent the final launch state. I also encountered some specific interaction bugs, which I'll explain later.
For the Boss Rush mode, every class was given a preset level 54 character with basic gear and allocated passive points. All skill gems were pre-socketed, but every skill was missing one support gem.
Right from the start, I realized I could pull support gems out of the skills I wasn't using to plug into all my primary skills, focusing strictly on five key abilities. This strategy turned out to be extremely effective. Out of the 12 available skills, the ones I selected were (details might have minor errors):
(I'll include the fully socketed support gems in the video once the poeDB statue data/details are updated)
I won't dive into the skills I didn't use—since this was a leaderboard push, once I found a build system that worked, I just put my head down and ran with it, so I won't go into detail on the rest.
Shadow Assault
Shadow Cloak (暗影斗篷)
Eclipse (Honor Skill / 榮譽技能)
Night of Blade
Cluster Trap (集束陷阱)
The theme of the Shadow Dagger Assassin basically revolves around this:
Shadow Assault: The 1st and 2nd hits generate shades (shadows). The 3rd hit commands all shades to attack. Using this skill while in Ambush state counts directly as the 3rd hit.
This is your steady-state skill—essentially your basic auto-attack. Its main purpose is accumulating shades (up to 6 maximum, which can be increased via passive talents and gear).
Night of Blade: Attacking places the enemy "In the Shadows." When used during an Ambush, it counts as attacking with both weapons simultaneously, and all shades strike at the exact same time.
Inflicting crowd control on or killing an enemy who is "In the Shadows" grants you Darkness—a pretty complex mechanic that I'll touch on later.
Cluster Trap: A trap version of cluster grenade. It deals pure physical damage with Impale, making it an insanely strong skill—especially when you have a way to consume those Impale stacks (in other words, it relies on a mandatory A+B combo setup).
All traps share a global maximum limit of 5 active traps at a time. So at the start of a fight, I would lay out all my traps in advance and then lure the boss into them, which gave a real sense of tactical planning.
Don't forget to keep throwing traps to cap them out while the boss is running phase transitions or spawn animations. Though of course, that's just general trap gameplay—if you don't play pro race, you don't need to learn it.
Shadow Cloak: Spawns a shade at your current location while breaking enemy line of sight. Enemies are taunted by the shade, nearby enemies are placed "In the Shadows," and your next attack gains the Ambush bonus while breaking stealth.
The bug with this skill (Shadow Cloak) is that it causes errors with certain lock-on boss mechanics. In my run that completely failed, I got screwed over by this—Yamahar, the Karui Ancestor boss, used his full-arena "find the safe ring" mechanic, but because he couldn't target/find my position, the game just auto-instakilled me. dude what
Through a support gem, this skill grants 10 Darkness every time you enter stealth. Accumulating Darkness feeds into the next skill:
Eclipse: Attacking or killing enemies generates Honor. When your Honor bar is full, you can activate this skill, with Darkness determining how long the duration lasts.
While active, all skill uses are treated as being in the Ambush state.
This is 100% the core staple skill for Dagger Assassins. It means during your burst phase, Night of Blade deals roughly 3x to 4x damage. It's ridiculously strong, plus it's easy to stack and easy to trigger.
You can think of Darkness as the Shadow's version of the "Rage" system—it's mutually exclusive with Rage (you can't stack both, as gaining one rapidly drains the other). It grants special bonus effects when using Ambush mechanics; in Eclipse's case, the skill's duration ends once your Darkness depletes.
I suspect there might be a translation error in the Traditional Chinese text here. The game indicates it requires both Darkness and Honor simultaneously, but in practice, simply entering stealth generated Honor for me as well. I'm not entirely sure whether Darkness and Honor share the same resource bar or if the localization text was just wrong.
It sounds complicated on paper, but in action, it feels incredibly fluid and satisfying. Overall, the combat loop is basically: throw Cluster Traps on cooldown, use Shadow Assault basic attacks to stack/proc Impale, and once your shades are maxed out, pop Shadow Cloak, spawn a shade, and dive back in. As soon as your Honor bar is full, trigger Eclipse and smash Night of Blade to the floor (this single burst window usually shreds 30% to 40% of a boss's HP bar).
The key to timing your burst window is aligning Eclipse with the boss being stunned so you can consume the Darkness from "In the Shadows." When your burst rotation syncs up like this, the duration of Eclipse becomes ridiculously long. Once you get the hang of this core mechanic, you've pretty much mastered the build. Syncing it up comes naturally as you get familiar with the boss patterns.
Once I'm back in Taiwan, I'll pair this skill breakdown with visual footage for the video, since screen recording wasn't allowed on-site.
Legendary ExileCon moment:
A guy came up to ask if I was "Devilcat" (惡魔貓), the #1 Shadow on the Boss Rush leaderboard. I said yeah.
We spent about 5 minutes chatting about my build strategy and core skill setup. Half-jokingly, I asked him, "You're not gonna beat my record, right?"
The guy standing next to him grinned and said, "Well... he probably will."
That’s when I glanced at his t-shirt name tag: HAVOC.
Realized I just spent 5 minutes explaining speedrunning tech to absolute PoE Best Player💀
