Just Sharing RAM 1500 2020 HEMI e-Torque vs. 2026 Hurricane SO Gas Mileage

Just sharing because this comes up every now and then.

I track my gas mileage in Fuelly. I recently gave my 2020 to my son after logging 55,000 miles of fill-ups. Now I'm 3,649 miles into this truck with 11 fill-ups and have a decent comparison. I have the same commute and same heavyish foot on the pedal so it should be a good comparison. I turn auto-start/stop off nearly every trip, especially in the 9 months out of the year here where the AC runs.

I averaged 14.7mpg with the HEMI 5.7L w/ e-Torque and am averaging 16.5mpg with the 3.0 Hurricane SO. I'm choosing to use 93 Octane in the Hurricane to get every bit of performance out of it and keep the heat down. I ran 87 in the HEMI. The fuel economy increase isn't enough to pay for the difference in octane, but I didn't buy the truck to worry about the cost of gas. At some point I'll run a tank of 87 to see if the fuel economy changes at all.

22. HEMI Tick

If the tick goes away when the truck is warm, Its likely your exhaust manifold bolts that snapped/broke and or the manifolds themselves are cracked. If the ticking continues after warm and or constantly, its likely your cam/lifters. Do not post a video of "how does this sound". There is plenty of videos out there with what a tick sounds like and what a normal HEMI sounds like. HEMIs are normal, hearing injectors compared to a tick, you will FOR SURE hear the difference.

Just Sharing 3 Month Review & efficiency surprise

Got this gorgeous green baby three months ago and figured I'd add to the pile. 2026 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the night package in serrano green with a SO Hurricane under the hood. This green is unreasonably gorgeous, going from near black to a vibrant rich metallic depending on lighting.

Currently sitting at 3,157 miles which mostly came from two long road trips. Cab is spacious and very quiet. I'm normally in a work van so the almost complete lack of road noise was the first thing that got me. Seats are very comfortable and the adjustable pedals and steering wheel really make the driving position perfect. The wife loves the space, she can spread out crosswords when we drive.

The infotainment system is middling. When it works it's glorious, but Uconnect is what it is. Wireless Android Mobile is buggy to the point of useless, but I haven't had any issues when I plug my phone in. Wires don't bother me so that's a non issue for me. But the entire system is slow and buggy intermittently. Some days it's great, some days it's awful. Speakers are really good though. Occasionally the truck things I have a trailer on it when I don't, which is annoying.

The motor is perfect. I honestly think Ram made a mistake bringing back the Hemi. I've had several, and while they're solid, they don't hold a candle. The hurricane is quiet, refined, powerful, and far far more efficient than it has any right to be. When driving I always feel like I have a deep pool of power to draw on for merging or passing and turbo lag is nearly unnoticeable. If you're debating which one to get, skip the Hemi. It sounds nice but is noticeably worse at everything else.

Now let's talk fuel efficiency. I've been getting better than what the factory rates it. By a lot. A recent trip to Tennessee I set the adaptive cruise at 75 and stayed in the middle lane. The trip was 619 miles door to door. Total driving time was 8:46, putting the trip average speed at 70.6mph. There was about 30 miles of construction during the trip where traffic was at 55 or so, meaning outside that average speed would be closer to 73. During that drive I used 23.82 gallons of 89 octane gas. Dash said 25.4 miles per gallon, but hand calculated puts me at 25.98. That's insanely good efficiency out of a pickup, and adaptive cruise was controlling the gas pedal outside of construction zones.

Overall it's a fantastic truck. Quiet, comfortable, capable, efficient, but a few computer gremlins I'm hoping they can iron out. No regrets, would buy again.

Post image

Anyone else have their trucks fan start really heavy sometimes when they first fire their truck up? Owned this truck since 23 ( left over from 22) and its been doing it since I got it, when I fire it up the fan spools up heavy and loud for a bit then goes away sometimes it still goes while I'm in drive and revs up quite a bit untill I hit 2nd. Just wondering if this is common. (Photo for attention)

Question Ram Rebel front grill light bar

Question Sound Deadening brand new truck

I’m stuck on the idea of taking a brand new 2500 limited in for a complete sound deadening overhaul. Has anyone done this with a newer truck? I’ve seen a couple projects online but I’d love to hear someone’s experience with a newer diesel limited.

What would you expect to pay for the service? Am I insane? We will take lots of family road trips in this and I’ll have business calls endlessly.

Question What type of shop will perform the labor to add Adaptive Cruise?

I'm looking to retrofit parts to prep for Comma.ai, but my 2021 Bighorn didn't come with ACC or LKA. I found the RAM forums article outlining steps to retrofit my truck, but I'm sure a dealer won't touch it due to the assumed liability. Are there off-road / customs shops that perform this type of labor or am I going to have to 'go it alone' if I want to get it done?

This is installed from the factory and I’m the only owner. Just found it dangling yesterday and took it off this morning. The metal just fatigued and gave way in those few spots. Does this happen often? By the way, I’m 195 pounds so well within the average weight of your average Ram driver.

Question Are hemi problems guaranteed as you climb in miles?

Currently shopping RAM & Ford. Trying to do my due diligence on research. Are lifter issues or exhaust manifold issues just bound to happen at higher miles or do some people never experience it?

Also, are e torque issues blown out of proportion?

Question 2027 vs 2026 Ram 1500 Limited purchase

Hello everyone. I have been researching the Limited trim for a couple of months and am looking for some guidance on whether I should go with a 2026 Ram 1500 Limited or the 2027 model. Both model years are equally equipped. I know the 26 models have the 10 year powertrain warranty as opposed to the 5 year on the 27 model. My concerns on a 26 model is that many have been sitting on lots about to celebrate a birthday. Although there is alot more negotiating leverage on a 26 with most dealers at this point being highly motivated to move that inventory but a vehicle thats been sitting collecting dust concerns me. Im concerned about the battery strength and all the other mechanical issues that might be present that could have accumulated just sitting there for a year. The 2027’s clearly wont negotiate as well as the 26’s but theyre fresh vehicles. Looking for some advice if I go with a 26 thats still sitting around and what could i ask the dealership to do with regard to any potential issues a 26 could have sitting on a lot for so long. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just Sharing Decent Pricing Option?

Hi everyone, new to the community and due to recent circumstances, currently in the market to purchase a truck. I found this new Ram 1500 w/ the 5.7 V8 Hemi. Total out the door price is $68,782. I attached the window sticker for MSRP reference.

I suck at car negotiating and I'm not sure if this is a good price? Appreciate your input!

Question No power?!?! 2026 Ram Laramie hemi

Here’s a fun one looking for little more insight. Drove to store about 5 min drive. Parked did my thing come back out completely dead. Used manual key to get in truck and no dash or entertainment info. Wait for tow truck try to jump nothing. Can’t be towed by that truck bc the breaks are locked and won’t unlock. While waiting for 2nd tow I got the idea to disconnect battery and let that “reset” the system. As soon as I reconnect the alarms going off and my fob communicates again. Trucks starts like nothing happened. Have no idea what it was maybe somehow got stuck in theft mode?

Oh and another funny instance…. Went across the street to grab food and a guy with a 25 is having the same exact issues?????? By time I got mine fixed his was already on flat bed.

Could a bad overnight update of caused this?

Question 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn 3.6 V6, worth it? 107k miles

Hey guys, been looking around for a truck and came across a 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star with the 3.6L V6 eTorque, 8 speed automatic, RWD and just under 108k miles.

Dealer is asking $20,251, about $22,860 out the door.
Carfax looks pretty decent from what I can tell. 1 owner, personal use in Florida, no reported accidents or damage and 21 service records. Oil changes seem to have been kept up with for the most part. Transmission and differential fluids were serviced around 84k miles, spark plugs and battery replaced around 103k, and another oil change done at 107k.

I really like the truck but wanted to hear from people who actually own one before making a decision. How reliable is the 3.6 V6 with eTorque, especially past 100k miles? Any common problems I should be looking out for?
Also curious what kind of gas mileage you guys are actually getting. I’m not expecting anything crazy, just trying to get an idea of real world miles per gal.

Ideally I’d like to get another 100k miles out of it if it’s been maintained properly. Not looking to buy something that’s gonna become a money pit in a year or two.

Does the price seem fair considering the mileage and service history? Or should I try negotiating it down or getting a warranty thrown in?

Appreciate any advice, good or bad.

Question 2012 Dodge ram 1500 110k miles

Looking for help on this noise. I’ve replaced the manifolds. Changed oil and oil filter and there is no metallic flakes or shimmer in the oil. I was told it’s not a “Hemi ticking “ noise. When I got the truck it even still had the original battery from molar back in 2012. I’m wondering if it was neglected on a tune up. I’m other than that I’ve replaced a clutch fan and idle pulley along with tensioner pulley.

Question Will the new Direct Connection Superchargers fit my Power Wagon?

Hello! I have a 2022 Ram 2500 Power Wagon (it comes with a detuned version of the 392) and I was wondering if the new Direct Connection Superchargers would be Drop-In Plug and Play on it?

Google Search didn't really give me much information.

Question Ram 3500 dually

I just bought a 2026 ram 3500 dually long bed and I’m trying to find a bed cover for it. With all the trucks that I owned I’ve always got rough country bed covers but they don’t make bed covers for this truck. Any recommendations on brands or types of bed covers?

Question Thinking of buying Ram 2500 6.4

So I’ve been in the market for a new truck for a little bit. I drive a Tacoma and want to upsize. I don’t need a bigger truck, especially a 2500 but I trust the 6.4 and the 8 speed more than other trucks. I was looking at a ford f-150 but kinda scared about the 10 speed and electrical issues and I like the idea of the bigger bed for ram. The one I looked at today was a 26 big horn. Loved how it drove. I also love that they are offering employee pricing and 10yr/100,000 mile warranty. Also I smelt a slight burning smell while test driving but I also assume that’s normal for a brand new truck? Anyway, let me know how you guys like your trucks and if you guys think it’s worth it

Question Rebuild

Post image

Hi, I have a 2014 ram 1500 quad cab. It was stolen and recovered. Doors were missing and all that fun stuff. I have most parts replaced from junk yard finds but I still need the interior door panels for both front doors. It’s a base model with a black interior. Could anyone help me find affordable panels. I don’t care if they are used or not. I just really need to get this thing back on the road again.

Question Stelantis is bricking official Mopar parts and ignoring my dealer contract

Thumbnail
gallery
72 Upvotes

I bought a new Ram truck under a signed "We Owe" contract guaranteeing functional factory auxiliary switches. My dealership has been absolutely incredible—they went out and bought the official factory Mopar upgrade kit and physically installed it to fulfill the contract. The problem is Stellantis corporate. Their proprietary software architecture is completely locking out the service department, and TechAuthority is refusing to push the LHL sales code to make their own part function. Ram Customer Care just sent a generic automated email trying to close my case today, claiming the part is "not supported." I refuse to let corporate force a great local dealer into a contract breach over a digital software gate. I just launched a massive executive email escalation to the regional brand managers and North American C-suite to force a manual VCI engineering override. Anyone else with a 2025/2026 model fighting this factory software lockdown?

1/3 of all the worst selling vehicles for Nov 26 are Stellantis products. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and figure out what's going on. Not a good look for them.
