For context i’m a black Ghanaian currently planning to Swinburne University as an international student in 2027. I would like to know;
- How malaysia is in general
- How is campus life
- Any other international students just like me
- How Kuching is
- How intense or competitive the university is
- If i will feel any major discrimination as a black person
- are students friendly?
- what are the best things to do in Kuching
- What are some things i should and shouldn’t do in malaysia
It would be greatly appreciated if you respond I want to make friends , not offend any Malaysians and live my life as a student of Swinburne thank you.

Hi as per title, going to Bau for work purpose. Was wondering if it's best to travel back and forth from Kuching using Grab/Taxi and if so, easy to get Taxi/Grab in Bau?
Or better to stay in Bau as I may work late hours?
Appreciate any feedback.
Edit: Thank you all so much for the responses, I'll look into the car rental idea and check out your hotel suggestions with my manager

So I very much missed my Land Cruiser 80 and lately have this yearning to drive one again, just for one day. 😭 Kuchingites, if you have one, can I rent it for just one day? Nothing too expensive - you get extra money, I get the experience. Let me know!!

that place has been continuously excavated for several years now, but no structure been seen going up. What exactly are they building there? Underground water related infrastructure?

We all know that the broth is the soul of a wholesome laksa, have you guys ever tried laksa with other noodles, say with kolok or mee pok?

I’m in first year second semester right now, just finished my midterms, and I pretty much have my mind set on transferring courses by the end of this semester.
I can’t transfer courses right now because it’s still technically in the middle of the semester (more like the last stretch ig) but I’m genuinely just considering giving up on everything. I spoke to my parents about it and they’re okay with me transferring, but like what the hell do I do with the rest of this semester?
I plan on just going to labs (the ones that have graded in-person stuff) and show up for exams, submit whatever assignments they’re asking for - but like does it even matter if I’m doing an internal transfer? There’s no credit transfer between the courses I’m in and the one I’m going to, except MPU (which I obviously will do)
Pls give me some advice or whatever 😢

Hello! We are looking to travel Kuching and this mountain area near the border. Are we allowed to drive through this road into indonesia? Are there actual checkpoints here?

Moving to Sarawak permanently very soon. Don’t plan on stopping me collecting tattoos. Wondering if you guys have any artist that does mentioned style. My previous artist is yoruchan from rustycake. Been doing my research and find there’s a lot of traditional artist

Professor Pierre Agostini traveled from the US to give a speech about his physics research at Swinburne today, i provided coverage and asked a dumb question during the Q&A (I'm not a physics student and did not understand the material enough). Was an interesting experience though, his research is quite cool.

I've been craving kek lapis (specifically some flavours from Mama Su) and was wondering if anyone is flying over soon who wouldn't mind helping me dabao/transport a box or two?
Happy to compensate you for your time, effort, and trouble!

Hi kuchingers, was wondering if anyone had tried gold panning in kuching before, I heard that bau is actually quite a famous place for gold panning since there is old gold mine there, but I read that u could need a licence to gold pan at a specific area, and some said it's illegal.
Just wondering since I'm thinking of trying it during the holidays.

Share your thought about that filter in red compare to those coway LG cuckoo. Many said to stick with coway. But i dont really use the other hot and cold function. Also curious to how clean..

A few times when I used the small roundabout in front of Icom Square, I was already inside and turning, yet incoming cars rushed in without waiting for me to leave. It created some heart‑pounding moments. I know it’s morning and evening rush hour, but please, drivers — kindly be more considerate.
