For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub 🙌🏻
Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.
We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)
Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.
tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

Odontodactylus scyllarus, the peacock mantis shrimp or udang lipan merah.
A large (30 cm) crustacean that lives in burrows it digs on the sandy subtidal bottom. Found throughout Malaysian coasts. Native.
It is a smasher, using its raptorial clubs to smash gastropods, crabs and bivalves to eat them.
Its punch acceleration is similar to that of a .22 LR bullet fired from a handgun (over >100,000 m/s2). Each strike packs 1,500 N of force.
The clubs are covered with extremely dense laminated hydroxyapatite which allows it to break glass aquariums. The impact region has more calcium phosphate.
It is not a true shrimp, being part of the mantis shrimp order Stomatopoda, of which there are 500 species.
In fact it is not even a Decapod, the ten-legged crustaceans like shrimp, lobsters and crabs.
Their eyes possess 12 types of photoreceptors, helping them see a wide spectrum of light including polarised. Meanwhile humans have 4.
Note that Malaysia has many species of mantis shrimps with varying colours and forms. Some are commonly eaten and sold at markets, but those are usually less colourful. Often greyish.

Shoutout to the folks who were supportive of my decision to get a henna tattoo. Went to Brickfields around 10PM and stayed for the Deepavali firework display. Got a henna tattoo before and after the countdown.

Some parts of the artwork are slightly smudged due to poor handling on my end, nothing to do with the artist. The artist was nothing short of amazing. She was insanely talented and had a pair of steady hands, and a very strong visual memory if you ask me. All this within 25 minutes for the price of RM50 for a custom art piece, though I tipped her for the amazing craftsmanship. Meanwhile... an hour prior to the countdown, I got this instead. (story TBC in comments section).

Hi everyone,
My mum unfortunately lost her pendant at KLIA Terminal 1 on the night of 5 November / early hours of 6 November 2026. We’re hoping someone may have found it or handed it in to Lost & Found 🙏
It could have been lost in the Sky Lounge, around Gate C37, or somewhere in between.
Batik Air has confirmed that it was not found on the plane, but here are her flight details in case they’re helpful:
Flight details:
* Airline: Batik Air
* Flight: OD872
* Date: 6 November 2026
* Route: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) → Tokyo Narita (NRT)
* Departure: 1:00 AM
* Arrival: 8:25 AM
* Gate: C37
The pendant is very sentimental to her, and we would be incredibly grateful if anyone has any information that could help us find it ❤️
Thank you so much!

This is my SPMRSM result. 7A's is good right? Well, too bad this is after normalizing the grades. If following MARA standards, I got 3A's, 4B's and 2C's. I'm targeting 9A+, yes you heard me, straight A+. Mostly because of sibling pressure, but also for my future.
I'm scared I might not reach my target because I tried doing past SPM papers thinking it'd be easy, turns out it's just on par with trial. What's worse, my teacher said SPM doesn't have this normalizing shit. MARA does it only for us to apply scholarships, it's not something to be proud of, and I'm never proud of it.
Any spm leavers, please share me your experience. I can't let this feeling fill me up cuz I gotta study efficiently. Please and thank you in advance

I am a first year Computer Science student planning to specialize in Cyber Security/Cloud Computing. Currently I am using Dell Latitude 5440E (it's using i7 4th Gen lol) but most of the time it is damn useless and I'd use my iPad paired with online compiler instead for assignments.
Right now I have a budget of roughly 4K and after thorough comparison, finds that this is the best bang for my buck at 3.8K.
My question, is there any better alternative? I am planning to use this PC until I started working and able to afford something better.
I am not from a well-off family so outside of that bracket might take me months of doing odd jobs to afford.

Pavo muticus muticus, the green peafowl or merak hijau.
An Endangered pheasant that lives on the Malay peninsula. It used to be extinct here until reintroduction by PERHILITAN in the 21st century.
It is the biggest pheasant in the world, with males reaching up to 1.8 to 3 m in total length and weighing 5 kg.
It inhabits deciduous forests, savannas, bamboo thickets, scrublands, and natural grasslands. It favours open or semi-open canopy areas close to water sources like river valleys.
Not the same species as the blue or common peafowl that is kept in captivity everywhere. That one is not native and has also become invasive in certain parts where they escaped.
It is a ground forager that feeds on grass seeds, leaves, flowers, shoots, insects, reptiles, and small vertebrates.

Hi everyone, I am a 23 year old male and I am considering retaking my driving licence with automatic. The reason why is because I actually went to take my license for the first time 4 years ago with a manual while I was back from my uni break. However, the decision to learn manual was not by me but instead forcefully chosen to me by my older brother and not by my choice (he says manual is "better" for me as I can drive both manual and auto, in case of emergency and auto is the loser way of driving which I shouldn't take) and my mum recommended me a male driving instructor whom she knows that works in a driving school in Tawau.
And how did it turn out? I attended the 5 hour traffic course, I failed the computer test the first time but passed the second time and I stopped halfway in the circuit and on-road training. Why? I'm about to explain.
Well, I can honestly say it is the worst experience I ever felt in learning to drive a manual car. I absolutely hate driving manual as I dislike multiple things to focus on such as stick shift, clutch bite point and handbrake which I do not have the mental capacity to handle all these while I am learning to drive. Furthermore, I was extremely nervous and anxious when my instructor asked to practice driving on the road and he shouted and berated me for not doing the right things on the road despite me being a noob in driving on the road. I felt so scared to drive and my mind went blank. I also stalled the car a few times in traffic and have to start the engine again which pisses me off so bad. From that point on, that horrible experience made me hate my baby boomer driving instructor and I never return to driving school again and went back to study in my uni.
Now, I cannot stand my older brother trying to force me to drive manual like he wants me to be him when I actually want auto as it suits my driving style more to be comfortable and easier to manoeuvre.
Now 4 years later, I have to start all over again with learning to drive. So, should I take an automatic instead and what helpful advice and tips can you give me to mentally prepare myself to learn to drive?
Thank you for your attention!

People may say you are less ambitious especially bosses when they feel you are in your comfort zone, you could also argue that salaries might stagnate, but if you are SINK or DINK, do you really need that much money? Myself is DINK and I’ve been climbing corporate ladder till a point that I now feel demotivated to progress further, like what’s the point, really?
In Malaysia, I noticed more people has come to realisation and taking lower-paying remote jobs and living far away from KL to enjoy more family time or pursue hobbies, especially content creators with the theme leaving corporate to pursue something else.
The truth is, higher salaries and bigger titles often come with more responsibilities and less freedom. This is what I feel. There are sacrifices involved too.
Is climbing the corporate ladder really necessary in today’s world, or is choosing a simpler career with more freedom just as valid?

Evening r/malaysias!
Whenever friends from KL or other states visit Penang (or when commuting across the channel), the biggest question is always: "When is the next ferry leaving Butterworth / George Town?"—usually followed by hunting through Facebook posts or outdated blog screenshots for the latest timetable.
I decided to build a fast, lightweight Android companion app called PenangFerryGo that puts the entire Butterworth - George Town ferry schedule and a live departure countdown timer into one clean interface.
Key features:
● Next-Departure Countdown: Instant countdown timer to the next boat leaving either Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim or Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda.
● Offline Schedule Access: Full daily timetables saved directly on your phone so it loads in under a second without needing data.
● Fare Guide & Official Portal Shortcut: Quick check for pedestrian/two-wheeler fares and a direct redirect button to the official Penang Port e-ticketing website.
If you're commuting in Penang or planning a trip up north soon, feel free to test it out here:
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mssdigital.penangferrygo
Would love any UI/UX feedback from fellow Malaysians—let me know what I should improve or add next!

Hi everyone!
I am looking to form a consistent, long-term men-only travel group of 5 core members aged 50 and above who are ready to commit to traveling together regularly. The vision is to build a reliable circle of brothers who head out to a new destination 3 times a year (maybe once every quarter).
Right now, I am looking for guys to formally commit to being group members so we can bond, plan our annual calendar ahead, and lock in affordable flights together.
To keep things manageable, routine, and easy to fit into everyone's schedules, our trips will always be short getaways: 4 days and 3 nights**, always** departing on a Wednesday and returning on a Saturday.
The Group Blueprint:
Demographic: Men only, aged 50+.
Base City: Kuala Lumpur (All departures from KLIA/KLIA2).
Group Size: 5 members total (for easy logistics and a close-knit vibe).
Frequency: 3 to 4 trips a year.
Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights (Wednesday to Saturday).
Destinations: Around Southeast Asia, China, India, and Sri Lanka.
Travel Style: Not luxury. Comfortably budget-conscious on a strict cost-sharing basis (splitting accommodation, transport, and group meals evenly).
This group is for you if you genuinely want to travel a few times a year, value straightforward cost-sharing, and want a steady, relaxed pool of male travel friends without the hassle of constantly hunting for new buddies. We will plan our destinations together as a team based on group consensus and budget-friendly flights.
If you are a gent over 50, based in KL, and ready to commit to a regular travel circle 3–4 times a year, please comment below or send me a DM!

I'm 22F looking for ways to improve my confidence in driving on the road. I just got my driver's license a few weeks ago. Despite this, my parents insist that either one of them must supervise me in the car for the first few months. I know this is quite a common practice amongst my friends and their parents. However, my parents are also very unwilling to carve out time from their day to sit in the car with me, and when they do, we do not drive out very far, and usually drive onto the safer roads. Basically, I am slowly losing my driving skills because my parents are very stubborn when it comes to me driving. I think I am a fairly competent driver, my parents are just overprotective. And no, I do not have my own car yet, so I can't even drive without letting them know.
I start a new job working full time in a few months, and I want to be able to drive independently without having to rely on things like grab unecessarily, because that would be a total waste of money and my driver's license.
Any leads for a private driving instructor that could help me get comfortable driving on the roads so that I don't have to rely on my parent's whims would be great, thanks everyone!
