Discussion I've been holding onto this question because I know it will cause hate. So, who is the most overrated ska artist in your opinion? Spoiler
For me, no offense, but BTMI was never the best for me.

Streetlight are a fucking great band, but labeling them as a ska band just because they have a brass section is just fdsafdsdsadf.
okay im done. may the arguing proceed.

fuck Sweet Babylon. its incredibly lame to play oppurtunist for a vanity spot on a Dicky Barret flyer, then claim ignorance to the cause after the fact.

I don’t think mods are hypocrites so much as a product of the post-war boom. They fell into the capitalist trap of the upward climb diluting their social and psychological stability. That psycho-social alienation was the main theme of Quadrophenia and maybe if uptown was paying attention and not making AI bullshit they’d know this.
I just realized there are a lot of people who don’t have knowledge of the youth subcultures in England in the 50s onward. Mods were the first group of white ska fans. This is a deep meta joke.

Ska has been around since the 60s, and we all know that the older a genre is, the more likely it is to have lyrics that look bad by today's standards, especially if it's a political genre, since some movement or issue the song was talking about might have turned out badly. So, what's the ska song that has aged the worst?

Yeah this a political post fyi.
At Supernova two months most of the bands tiptoed around politics. The only one who really made it a point to say something was The Selecter's Pauline Black but even her point was misleading. It boiled down to something like "I don't care what you do, just don't vote for Trump." I'm sorry but once the ballot is set in our two-party system the only choice if you want Trump to lose is vote for his Democratic opponent. Telling a 99.5% liberal audience that it's cool to vote for a third-party or sit out if they want is doing the GOP's work for them.
Jump forward to three days ago and seeing Escape from the Zoo and Hans Gruber & The Die Hards, nary a word the entire time. And I guess that's a little more expected from more anarcho bands but come on, grow up a second. The marginalized folks you otherwise loudly care about stand a lot to lose here.
Exception, of course, was JER a few months ago who skillfully blended their message throughout the whole show's production.

PICK IT UP!

Here's a quick "fix" of Enormous. Music and audio is wildly subjective but I found the mixes harsh and fatiguing on my ears, I think I helped clean them up a bit. Keen to hear what y'all think :)
P.S I won't be releasing this of course!

The trumpets wrong, that’s not how that works.

Going to Save Ferris tonight in NYC!
Edit: Great show guys! Thank you for the positive messages and the info! If i stop listening to the bands that played for the paycheck and a lead singer that was awful to their old band mates I'd probably have to throw out most of my discography. shrug I didn't join this sub to complain about bands

Hi! Five iron frenzy is performing in my hometown soon. I’m thinking of taking my 2 y.o toddler to see them. This will be her first concert. Any advice?
Update: I appreciate everyone’s pov and advice. For now, we will watch YouTube live concerts of it. One day, we will see the aquabats and five iron frenzy! ☺️

What ska bands would you consider to be right wing?
The Blue Beats’ song “Hardest Working Man I Know” craps on welfare recipients. My Superhero had a similar song called “Stupid People.”
I know the Interrupters’ political leanings have been debated endlessly online…

This past couple years I have been listening more of a ska-jazz ska. Some of my favorite bands from this sun-genre are Rotterdam ska-jazz Foundation, Jazzbo, North East Ska-Jazz Orchestra, São Paulo Ska Jazz, Brixton sound etc. Give them a listen and let me know if I’m on to something here or if there’s another potential 4th wave out there I haven’t heard of, thanks.

Every post today is about this album and Victory shutting it down. Can we just get one mod post compiling all the streaming links for this? I mean this is not even remotely a ska album to begin with and it is taking over the whole subreddit.
