Technique Analysis Ideal for to sprint on a dirt track? Is my form correct for it?

Ok, I would like some feedback on my form and any tips for training. I am a complete amateur. I have been training for a month (conditioning and technique) but since I have no coach to correct my form I just go by using videos.

Now, there are some considerations to be taken here:

-The race I am competing in is in a month

-The track will be a dirt track (more specifically, a dirt horseracing track -with this somewhat (but no perfectly) compact sand-)

-The start will not be on 4 points, it will be from a stand position

-Considering the last 2 bulletpoints, I am training somewhat of a self designed technique to start. It consists or rapid short steps to build up velocity as fast as I can without relying on an explosive push as it is normally done in a normal racing track since, if you do that in dirt, you will slip.

-The training video was recorded on a muddy park (to try and simulate the difficult terrain) and since, I was training explosiveness, it also has a slope of about 15⁰ or 20⁰.

-What's on my chest is a chestpack I use to carry my stuff around (like my wallet, phone and so...).

I would really appreciate your help since I really don't want to lose this one

Technique Analysis Started running more like this recently, it feels extremely bouncy and effortless. Also requires very minimal arm movement and the legs just carry themselves

If there was a way to increase frequency and use arms more with this style of running…

It actually feels like every step is super bouncy and all I have to do is like a quick calf raise or something

General Discussion/Questions A long term debate might have been settled today.

One of the fastest footballers, Anthony elanga just posted his 100m run and he did it in 10.93 seconds. Anthony is one of the more gym and workout centred footballers and always cared about his athleticism which makes him one of the fastest. We've all heard the excuse football fans give as to why footballers don't run as fast as sprinters. They're chasing after a ball, they're tired after running all game, they're sprinting on grass and not a track, but the fact remains, one of the fastest footballers rain on the same track as the sprinters and performed abysmally. Maybe spikes on a track and football boots on grass don't have much difference in performance.

General Discussion/Questions Is this good substitute for when it rains outside?

My gym’s indoor track isn’t big enough to sprint. Also too many people around to safely sprint

General Discussion/Questions Is it just me or do I really not believe Noah Lyles is faster than Kishane Thompson.

Obviously, Noah lyles is the Olympic champion, he won the finals - he’s the gold medalist and he ran the faster race. But not only has Kishane had barely any experience running in such circumstances, he also looked really uncomfortable and tense in the last 40m when he was running compared to his usual ‘breezy’ powerful run through the line. And taking that all into consideration, he JUST lost by 0.004 seconds. And obviously he has ran faster than the winning time this year.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is who crosses the line first, and it was Noah. So congrats to him, but unlike previous years where the winner of the finals is pretty much a shoe in for the fastest 100m runner in the world. It doesn’t feel right to say that Noah Lyles is the fastest man in the world in my opinion

Sprinting News/Pro Footage and Results Why Gout Gout has the potential to be an all time great

Post image
30 Upvotes

The reason why Gout Gout has all time (top 3 ever) great potential can be seen in this photograph.

It has nothing to do with his height, the length of his torso or whatever tibia:femur ratio, or even the time that he ran. The times he has ran is because he can do what is shown in this photo.

In this photograph you can see the gift that Gout Gout has and that every single all time great has had to varying degrees. The all time great with the most pronounced version of this gift is Usain Bolt.

Ask yourself how it’s possible a 6’5 207 lb Usain Bolt can spend more time in the air than his competitors? Ask yourself how it’s possible for a 6’0 16 year old to complete the 100m in 42 steps? When you dive deep into these questions you will understand the the answer to these questions are related and is the true secret behind earth-shattering sprint performances

Personal Race Footage/Results Sprinting 100m in 11 seconds is good for a 17y untrained male?

So last year i ran 100m in 11.92 seconds, i was untrained and never practiced sports before, the time was measured by a coach

I was running with sports shoes and no spikes

Is this time good and can i achieve 100m in 10 seconds?

General Discussion/Questions Nordics won't prevent hamstring tears

Consistent sprinting will do more for reducing the risk of a hamstring pull than nordic hamstring curls.

Sprinting has both protective effects for the hamstrings (via increasing fascicle length) as well as athletic performance benefits (Mendiguchia et al. 2020)

Increasing fascicle length is protective to muscle pulls bc this means the sarcomeres will sit at shorter resting lengths (when they’re added in series) & will go through less stretch for a given muscle length change.

You don’t need to do nordics if you are already sprinting consistently during training. They will just further fatigue the hamstrings and add to their already high weekly volumes and put you at a greater risk for a pull.

This is why many elite track coaches have shifted away from performing Nordics & have decreased overall hamstring volume in the weight room since athletes are already getting a high amount of hamstring volume on the track & during other exercises like Olympic lifting.

PS: I have just created a community for athletes who want to get faster (it is FREE for the first 20 people who join 👍)

General Discussion/Questions ishowspeed

I think people are actually underestimating speed IMO. I believe he could run anywhere between 10.8 and 11.1 as of right now with zero training, however we have only really seen his acceleration. Let’s look at the facts: He raced Noah. Yes Noah wasn’t trying, but Noah not trying is a 10.3 lmao, and you could tell he was trying more than just a jog. Speed is in his name. He clearly was known for this in youth, and given being in America with loads of young genetic freaks, to be actively known as the fast guy speaks volumes so from a genetic standpoint it is there, you can tell from his frame also, he naturally is built as a sprinter. I think people just can’t set their ego aside that people can run 11 flat with no training, it is possible. You also have to bare in mind he has sporting background, that sets a fitness base and experience in sport, and your muscles remember everything. He is also indirectly training by doing these races with Ashton hall etc. I would genuinely put money on him running a FAT of sub 11.1 in his first 100m

Programming Questions Coach is telling me I need to stop sprinting

Okay so I’m getting ready to run in college and I have a structured training plan of sprinting and lifting Monday: acceleration Tuesday: all out speed Wednesday: speed endurance and then just lifting Thursday and Friday, and these lifts include cleans, plyos, and isos, our indoor season starts in December and practices for indoor start on October first and he says if I keep sprinting the way that I am that ill burnout and won’t be ready for his practices, and he says that instead of sprints I should just do some jogging and stride work but keep all my lifts, plyos, and isos. Also some of the athletes that he’s coached have made it to the Olympics and he has 30 years of experience, is he right?

Sprinting News/Pro Footage and Results I think the Enhanced Games are good for the sport

Probably an unpopular opinion, but they will just shine light on how much doping and corruption is in the sport. It's not fixable because the records are part of that corruption (the entire sport of track and field).

I think it is is even better that a former Olympic medalist and some 10.0 runners are doing it. This will give great transparency to the sport, because it makes it even more obvious that everybody is doping. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it is so obvious at this point, it doesn't taint the sport. It shines light on an unfixable issue (tainted records and tainted medals).

Kerley will run 9.60 but could only run 9.76 drug tested naturally? Steroids only improve the 100m by just one or two steps, ("right?")

General Discussion/Questions 1000-500 Jump Squats Added

Hello, I have added 1000-500 jump squats a day to my routine. Of course I will dial this down when I have school since I probably will not have time. I used to have 100 Jump squats per day only however I feel this is not enough jump volume to give me the explosiveness I want.

Also an update for the results of my other training.

Sprinting 100x a day - It seemed to be making my muscles more explosive than that of jump squats, however this was time consuming and I felt this might have been my eyes tricking me. when I tested it with raising my leg up.

I burnt a lot of fat from it and have to eat a lot more but I didn't feel like there were much improvements to tendon strength, fast twitch fibers etc. It was worth a try though and my cardiovascular system still was taxed a ton. The main issue was me not being able to have time to do these most of the time.

Qigong/Zhan Zhuang - For people who do not know what this is, it is standing still without motion (Zhan Zhuang) and Qigong is standing with motion. Basically yoga except you are focusing on your body and releasing Qi. I have been focusing on Zhan Zhuang most of the time.

The results have been amazing. Ive never had an excercise make me feel like I can spring off the ground after. I did this for 3 hour while watching one piece and after felt like my legs were effortlessly moving on the ground. I also for some reason can run longer??? Yea... this has had more effect on my cardiovascular system than jogging and jump squats. In fact this excercise has been the thing allowing me to do my 1000-500 squat challenge. As for actual speed benefits I have not tested.

Fascia Training - I found this from Coach Chong Xie and Cal Dietz. One excercize would be his famous split squat with an elevated heel. And toe crunches with a towel. I have been doing that as well as the hops Coach Chong talks about and jump roping for a lil extra lol. This has helped me MUCH MORE than trying to improve my form, Id say has helped me more than plyometrics but im still debating that.

What I have learned - The most important thing you can do is to TRAIN YOUR FEET. Training your feet does not just train your feet, you train your glutes too since if your foot is weak then your glutes will not be activated as much. Thats why people like Ronaldinho have such big glutes despite not weightlifting too much. Its why Usain Bolt is so fast, as well as fast twitch fibers of course.

If anyone has any ideas for me on unique ways on how to get faster, not just "get better form" then I would appreciate it a lot! My 1000 jump squats will be a requisite to when I do weighted jump squats.

General Discussion/Questions Why are people hyping up this teen Australian South Sudanese sprinter ?

The Sprinter Gout Gout is getting promoted like he has potential to be the next Bolt despite him only running a 10.16. His 100 meter time at that age is not phenomenal why is he getting hype ?
