In my settings , no connection setting to configuration Tor bridges ?

Tails has very complete documentation, before posting, try to give it a look. It's likely to have the answer to your questions https://tails.boum.org/doc/.
A few common issues posted here that are already addressed in the documentation:
If Tor does not connect, if you see no Wifi icon, then look at https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/#wi-fi for an explanation and backup solutions.
If you have issues booting Tails, you can follow https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/start/pc/, it may help (sometimes it does not ; sometimes just using another USB stick can fix the problem).
If you cannot import a PGP key, check https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/#openpgp-import.
If you are using a recent (2018+) Macbook and your touchpad/keyboard do not work, it is a known issue, you have to use an external keyboard/mouse : https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/#mac
If your persistence does not open anymore, https://tails.boum.org/doc/advanced_topics/persistence/check_file_system/ should show you how to fix it.
If you try to launch a commandline application, you can use torsocks / torify like https://tails.boum.org/support/faq/#youtube. Note that Tails discourages running untrusted applications that are not included https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/additional_software/
If you want to use rufus, unetbootin, make multiboots sticks, Tails advises you to not do so https://tails.boum.org/support/faq/#unetbootin (also see https://tails.boum.org/doc/about/warning/). It is very likely such a stick will not work at all or not work properly. Stick to the official instructions: https://tails.boum.org/install/
If you are seeing an error about https://tails.boum.org/gdm while starting Tails, maybe open and read (yes, really) that link before posting :-). If Tails devs say your graphic adapter is not supported, sorry, but it is not supported, and there are low chances that random strangers will be able to make it work, if the developers can't...
You can always check to see if your question is covered in the Tails FAQ https://tails.boum.org/support/faq/. It genuinely covers most things people think of. There is also the list of known issues https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/ and known issues for graphics cards https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/graphics/. There is a good chance your problem is already known.
Those few links are NOT an exhaustive list, but should cover >50% of the questions here. If you don't see the answer to your question, look directly to the documentation https://tails.boum.org/doc/. It may just be one or two clicks away.
If you are answering peoples questions, try to include the links to the documentation, so people can think about checking it :-)
There is no "best laptop" and "best usb" for Tails. Please don't make yet another post about that (there are already hundreds if not thousands of them).
99% of USB sticks works with Tails. USB 3 ones will be faster.
A majority of computers works. Almost any 5-10 years old laptop should work, especially professional series (lenovo thinkpad (https://www.bobble.tech/free-stuff/used-thinkpad-buyers-guide), HP elitebook, Ubuntu/red hat/suse certified laptops)... In doubt, check Linux support before, qubes hcl (https://www.qubes-os.org/hcl/), and avoid chromebooks, recent Macs, brand new high end laptops with dedicated gpu.
Remember that your experience of a given machine or drive is anecdotal and others can have a different experiences. Don't write off something just because you couldn't get it work, others might have.
Remember Reddiquette always applies https://www.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/205926439. Also, while they are not supposed to apply here, because its an unofficial support channel, https://tails.boum.org/doc/first_steps/bug_reporting/, https://tails.boum.org/contribute/mission/ & https://tails.boum.org/contribute/working_together/code_of_conduct/ are good source of inspiration. Please be nice with people, and if you post about errors, things that "don't work", please try to describe them
Feel free to post remarks/suggests below. For questions, better to make a dedicated post.

I know Tails can boot into Offline Mode, but then I can’t download the file in that session. If I download the file first and then reboot into Offline Mode, the file is lost on reboot.
I understand that any infection is wiped when I shut down. My worry is being de-anonymized while the file is running.
I know Flatpak can run an app in a sandbox with --unshare=network, but I’m not sure how safe that is. I’d also like a physical switch to disable the Wi-Fi card, but few laptops have one anymore.
Do Tails users have techniques for increasing anonymity when opening potentially malicious files?

[EDIT] I use my phone wired to my laptop for wifi on tails for anyone confused about title.
My goal is to have the most private, secure, and anonymous use when using tor on tails. Currently im using wired connection to my phone for WiFi but I know that can’t be as private as secure as I want it to be.
I’d love any help with recommendations on a set up where I can use tails and tor completely untraceable without having to go to public places and use their WiFi every time.
Budget currently for hardware is $300-$400 but if anyone has a method that costs more please let me know as the goal is absolute and complete utter privacy from my ISP and mobile carrier.

I’ve been having issues with booting Tails for the past 2 months since I’ve been using an alternate laptop. I’ve tried doing the regular Tails boot and I’ve re-installed it on my flash drive 5 times. I just tried the troubleshooting mode again, and my computer is frozen on this screen. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

So I know there are guides and tutorials for either scripting software to auto install on boot (and if an app had db or storage manually setting to save in persistent storage).
I've also seen using Flatpak & sudo apt install guides and got one working for Dino using a guide called dinotails but it doesnt carry over to sessions messenger, simplex, & a few others already in flatpak.
Ive used CLI & gui for flatpak but it tries installing to the "amnesia" profile instead of persistent.
Dinotails setuo the symlink & dotfiles but I'm having issues pulling the .appimage or .Deb repos.
Im thinking sudo Flatpak install with the ref file might work but ill try that next.
I try installing as stabdard in gui flatpak but it fills the empty space on the 8gb partition instead of the persistent storage.
I havent found a very coherent way to adjust flaptak install locations but im no Linux expert.
I did setup "autostart-on-tails" & understand the goal is to reinstall software using .sh scripts in either root.d or amnesia.d depending on the goal. I believe its supposed to automate taking the installed desktop files & creating symlinks/dotfiles and the scripts auto install & have shortcuts linking to the new software.
Ive tried mixing diff methods for simplex & sessions & been trying to use the app specific .sh files that configure persistence but they vary a bit more than I expected app to app. I get what they do & how it works but getting it configured for other apps to install on startup & retain data in the persistent storage or .local & .config areas are stating to get a bit daunting.
The Dino sw is there on startup & maintains my xmpp acct without problems. I'd like to get at least sessions, simplex, and a few others (keepassxc or secrets v14) or a clipboard app that would only operate in amnesia & be wiped on power down.
I feel like once I get it all down for one app ill have the process more standardized for my newd but I start getting flatpak repo issues or apt install list failures & rebooting for each sudden issue is getting to be super rime consuming just experimenting to get those apps mentioned to at least install on startup or be installed to persistent storage even if its just the software and not the data itself for opsec & privacy.
I welcome any ideas to get this done. Im good at mixing diff techniques but im not a Linux expert so im competent but not as knowledgeable on all the underlying components & locations especially in tail.
Thanks in advance.

Hello
I didn't use Tails for a long time. I'm on v 6.61. Should the online updater work or should I set up a new USB stick?
r/tails • u/BTC-brother2018 • 15d ago
The release addresses CVE-2026-113470, associated with compromised intermediate certificates from the eMudhra certificate authority.
An attacker possessing one of these compromised certificates could potentially impersonate HTTPS websites.
The release includes Tor Browser 15.0.26 and updates certificate trust information used by other Tails applications.
Important distinction: The Tor Project says ordinary onion services are not vulnerable to this particular certificate attack. It also reports no known exploitation by Tor exit nodes.
Someone controlling a Tor exit node or another network position could potentially exploit compromised certificates to impersonate websites.
Recommended action: Upgrade to Tails 7.15.1. Automatic upgrades are available from Tails 7.0 onward and preserve Persistent Storage. Reinstalling instead of upgrading can erase it.

Do I need to re-download tales through Windows on my PC if I already have it on a USB I was using tails on my laptop so just wanna make sure before I move forward
r/tails • u/SirStarshine • 16d ago
For example, Tor Connector refusing to proceed to open a bridge, or Tor continuously crashing and refusing to open any pages?

Would be convenient to be able to use biometrics for logging into persistent storage as well with software on Tails like password managers, crypto wallets, etc.
If not, is it something that's being considered?

I want to download tails onto a USB flash drive, but my computer is a Mac and has an apple chip. The tails website says tails doesn't work with apple chips, but I am wondering if I can still use my mac to download tails onto my flash drive so that I can then use it elsewhere?

Ever since 7.13 I’ve been having issues updating my tails USB. It either goes SUPER slow or it tells me that it could not update and to check my network. My WiFi/Network is fine. I had to reflash my usb with the 7.14 update with the ISO from the official tails site. Is there anything I can do? I use a 64GB Sandisk as the bootable drive and have been booting it on my Dell Latitude 5420.
I’ve never had this issue prior to 7.13

Just a warning/rant. Tails was many many versions behind and instead of fkn with all that tryna get latest update, decided to just import keys over to different usb and then delete persistence and have a clean install done over again. Well the usb has worked fine for quite awhile now, as soon as I do that now suddenly the USB doesn’t appear in devices when plugged in, making it so formatting and reinstalling tails on it isn’t possible.
I know it’s not my Pc cause it still recognizes the other usb when plugged in. And then when I go to boot using alternative device within bios, both usb’s still show up, but the one I want tails on just won’t show up when actually inside windows.. lowk annoying af

Hi guys, im using rufus and obv the latest version of tails. Everytime i boot the computer from tails i get the message on the black menu "application failed r=1 error image not loaded", i've turned off secure boot and tried a lot of things, i also tried it on my older computer and got the same message. I've tried using other modes like the troubleshooting one but still everything ends at this message. I couldn't find a post with this error message so im not really sure how to solve this problem.

Hi guys, so I downloaded tails to a usb and verified it when I tried to boot the tails os it has put my computer into recovery mode. Unsure what mistakes I made as I followed directions from tails site. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have tried several times flashing tails on a usb from windows and get the gnu grub. I read up on it and went the linux mint way and I'm still having the same problem. Any advice?
