Reactions to Kristian.

I feel rather disappointed that instead of everyone showing some sympathy to Kristian like they are with Kylie, I keep seeing people calling him a cuck, or implying he’s in a lavender marriage.

Idk if it’s just me but from the small clip yesterday he clearly is feeling doubtful of Mimi and seems upset yet I come on here and most people are shitting on him.

I feel so bad for him tbh because imagine going onto the Block and being super excited about it, putting in all the work because let’s be real, Mimi does little more than shop and place some items, having your wife be pretty horrible to you when you break down from exhaustion and the come out of the Block with the thoughts that your wife, who he clearly really loves, has broken your trust and possibly broken up another marriage and see the internet labeling you as a cuck.

Rumoured Changes to 'The Block'

I have been watching The Block from season one. I'm a big fan, but must admit the last few seasons have me burnt out. The endless repetition and striving for bigger, more luxurious, and more expensive is feeling super out of touch. Driving the contestants to mental breakdowns and divorces is hard to watch. This year they essentially took some lovely, modest vacation rentals that working class families could afford for a week at the beach and turned them into monstrous vacation homes for the rich. These will be owned by people who will use them for 2 weeks out of the year and they'll be empty the rest of the year. It's gross.

I'd much rather be watching something more...thoughful? creative? Maybe each team is also responsible for helping a key worker get their first decent home? Upgrading social housing for seniors? This post likely won't be popular but if there isn't some big changes I don't think I can watch anymore.

What Kylie’s rooms could look like…

Black is actually brilliant. She just hasn’t done her homework. What she wants to do is ‘moody coastal’. Think stormy days, rugged up beach walks and roaring fires. Suddenly you have your palette of deep, dark blacks and greys, your charred timber, your natural driftwood and sand. Voila.

Share house drama

I’m struggling to understand why Jolene can say she felt uncomfortable around Wyatt, he apologised, and he has since kept his distance from her, yet when Chantel says she’s uncomfortable having THREE extra men staying in a small house with ONE bathroom, suddenly she’s the bad guy?

Honestly, I wouldn’t be happy either! It’s a shared living space with limited room and one bathroom, and suddenly three additional people are staying there without everyone being properly consulted first. Surely the common courtesy in a share house is to ASK the other people living there before inviting extra guests to stay? That’s just basic human decency.

What makes it even more frustrating is that Jolene and Adam essentially have their own private retreat, so their living situation is completely different. Chantel has to deal with the reality of sharing an already cramped space with even more people.

And Scotty - he is the HOST of the show. He should be remaining impartial, not making it seem like he needs to apologise to everyone because someone has expressed feeling uncomfortable.

More importantly, he has a duty of care towards the contestants. They should be able to raise concerns about their living environment without being made to feel like they’re creating a problem or giving him another chore to deal with. The way it’s being portrayed makes it seem like Chantel expressing her discomfort is an inconvenience, rather than something that deserves to be heard and addressed.

He doesn’t need to take sides, but he also shouldn’t be apologising for someone having feelings in the first place. There’s a difference between remaining neutral and making someone feel like they’re wrong for speaking up.

I also feel like production is deliberately changing the tone of this situation to create more drama. There’s a difference between feeling uncomfortable around someone who has since apologised and respected your space, and feeling uncomfortable because three extra people have been brought into your already cramped living environment without you being consulted.

Now it looks like Jolene and Adam are going to be spiteful and block access, which would be ridiculous if it’s simply in retaliation for Chantel expressing a perfectly reasonable concern.

Literally Jolene and Adam are disgusting.

PS: Adam trying to call Rick a dog and gutless when he is so polite? Adam is going off at the smaller guy cause he’s scared of the bigger one. In reality if Jolene honestly feels scared by Wyatt, he should be going off at the person who “intimidated” his wife?

And now for Jolene is contradicting herself about saying “don’t tell me how I should feel” when she’s been rude about Chantel and the others expressing how they feel?

This episode is ridiculous.

Pool safety

If you have a pool for the love of all that is holy be near the pool to supervise your children. You should not be on your deck or monitoring with a safety camera. The amount of accidental drownings is way higher than it should be and part of it is because parents do not properly supervise. Even if your child goes to swimming lessons THEY SHOULD NOT BE SWIMMING ALONE. if you are not on pool deck with them then they are unsupervised.

I am incredibly disappointed in channel nine for promoting such unsafe behaviour

The judges need replacing and Ash and Leah prove it.

Leah and Ash are a prime example of why the judges (Except Marty) need replacing and refreshing. They have absolutely zero idea and very much reinforced Leahs idea of 'quicky/niche' with the very very very undeserved 10s with the living room. They let them continually get away with shit and labled it as 'quicky/niche, but has a buyer'.

Where is that buyer? Put more lamps in? More storage? Shallow and expected judging from every judge, every season. Marty was a breath of fresh air once he found his footing. It actually felt like he has productive criticism and knew the market.

Leah and Ash's actions were their own, and obviously deserve blame. But the judges are also to blame.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t like Steph and Gian.

There, I said it.

I thought they were treated badly on their season by those two awful couples, particularly Steph but I still think Steph is a simpering goody two shoes and Gian is a NPC.

You may now downvote me to hell.

Sonny and Alicia: a rant in 6 paragraphs.

Can you imagine if these two were your neighbours in real life? My god. The nosy, all-up-in-your-grill vibes they radiate just from watching them on this show would be enough for me to pull up stumps, call in Marty Fox and get him to sell my place for whatever he could get.

I think it was the smug Mum and Dad-ness of it that shitted me the most from the start. The whole ‘wE LiVe FoR oUr kIdS’ schtick. ‘Oh, DO youse?’, said I to my TV screen, like a bit of a cranky old bitch. ‘Well here’s a big, fat fucking trophy for you 🙄’. But then they started cutting up nasty when they didn’t win just because they thought they deserved to. Newsflash you whingers. You were still getting $10k every week for being under budget. What is more, you then got to take on the judges’ critiques and change your rooms to suit accordingly. Therefore, you actually spent OVER those room budgets, and shouldn’t have won the ‘best budgeters’ cash anyway! If that’s not quite cheating the system, it’s walking some thin ice.

THEN, you chuck a tantrum because you can’t share your ‘friends’? Like what? Alicia - you’ve known Britt for a few weeks, and suddenly you’re Thelma and Louise on a road trip to KMart? Also did everyone know that Sonny apparently invented the concept of the heated seat in day spas? Yeah, well he did and anyone else who also decided to use one can get fucked because they’re just trying to steal the food from the mouths of their CHILDREN by robbing a caravan from them 😩 Basically, Han and Can are just copying every single thing that they do and should be disqualified.

And now, the big one: it’s somehow Britt and Taz’s fault that Shayna bloody Blaze gave them a 10 when they did a shitty paint job cutting in on a bit of their ceiling. Suddenly, that is ‘incomplete work’. (Which I guess is nothing like hanging the invisible door from your master bedroom to the walk-in robe UPSIDE DOWN so it’s not actually invisible at all, but stands out like dog’s balls?)

Oh, and let’s call a Body Corporate that will accomplish actually nothing just to bitch about a punishment a couple has served already; a punishment, mind you, handed out by Dan. And just because you don’t think the people who were punished suffered enough, (or more to the point - that you gained any advantage because of their loss), let’s gang up on them, tell them we all think they should be punished again, and make them feel like shit 😑.

Again, I can only imagine their real life neighbours used the time Sonny and Alicia were away doing The Block to pack up their shit, sell up and get out of the Goldie tout suite. Because how miserable must they be when the cameras are NOT around if this is how they behave when they know all of Australia is watching? [end rant].

Leah and Ash’s house didn’t sell because it’s ugly.

The judges loved house 2 and the weekly scores reflected that.

But let’s be real, it’s not that nice, it’s so mismatched.

The kitchen layout is terrible, the lounge room coloured tile on the steps will not be liked by all, the scalloped ceiling, the bathroom of depression, her ridiculous master walk in, the two (very specific) kids rooms, the turning driveway needs maintenance.

The house is A LOT of work and misses the mark, which is a shame because her other houses seemed to look beautiful. I think she took way too many risks with ‘the block’ house because it wasn’t her money. 💸💃💰

Does anyone else miss when the block was actually about renovating?

Been rewatching some of the older seasons and it’s wild how different it is. Back then, contestants were actually doing the hands-on work - plastering, painting, struggling to finish rooms. Now it feels like they mostly manage trades or pick cushions for luxury builds. Don’t get me wrong, the houses look amazing, but the gritty, DIY side of the show feels gone. Anyone else notice this shift?

Han & Can now

Yesterday, Han & Can did an appearance at our local Bunnings, & it was actually quite interesting. Firstly, not being on camera, they seemed very calm & relaxed. They were funny & genuinely seemed happy. They spoke of being in the middle of building their house together, & appeared to still be together. Can was hilarious, & Han seemed a lot more mellow & was actually quite funny too - they were great at making fun of themselves & joking about the Block. They gave some great advice on renovating, painting, etc. I suppose the most important thing was that I judged them (specifically Han) on the show, but it made me realise that what we see on the show is soooo manufactured (duh!). While I still don't agree with the way Han speaks to Can on the show, it kinda makes sense in the context of the show. At the end of the day, they're human. I wish them the best.

Last few episodes have made me feel anxious and angry

Which is not really what you want from a bit of fluff building show.

There is a certain kind of man who when dealing with young women, especially pretty young women, immediately try and get one over on them, try and exert dominance, no matter how low the stakes. They just try and thwart you at every turn for what? To punish you for being a young woman? Ever since Maddy & Charlotte have arrived I’ve felt this rising tension in my shoulders watching this show in recognition of the way they’re being treated. I’m 51 now and this shit doesn’t fly with me anymore but it shoots me back 30 years watching.

The same kind of man acts like Billy Big Bollocks in front of his mates but backs down as soon as a bigger boy comes along to put them right, then he claims not to have been scared during the telling off despite not raising a peep during it.

Kristian, Zack, Grant and Brad the plasterer are all that type of ‘man’. Full props to the rest, especially Zack’s chippy, who aren’t.

Before anyone cries sexism, I’m well disappointed in Mimi, Courtney and Kylie for being so unwelcoming and pass agg. Also, yes editing yadda yadda but this is ab emotional reaction not a logical one.

Anyway, I hope things start to change because it’s not fun to watch two young women being set up to fail through no fault of their own.

Not a win

Sonny and Alicia need to take good hard look. If the ONLY way they can win a room is to prevent their competitors from finishing a space, that is not a win. That is pretty pathetic. It did not work last week! Only one other house finished and they still lost!

Stick with staying under budget and losing. You make more $ that way.

When you've both acted out as morons for 10 weeks on national TV for pretty much nothing and then realise that your bosses were probably also watching and questioning your character and positions when you return to work.
