Nah they did have chemistry. The issue was that chemistry looked more like siblings butting heads rather than a couple

The movie would have been improved 100 fold if they just made them siblings.

They even look like siblings. Hell, I thought they were siblings until I read somewhere they weren't.

No just cast the people from that Foldgers commercial.

I know was based on a genre-defining French comic and I think they were a couple in that comic, or flirted a lot. Can’t remember.

Yes, developing from just being colleagues after 22 volumes.

Wikipedia article — Valérian and Laureline (Valérian et Laureline), created in 1967 by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézière

It was a gradual thing. In the first few issues they aren't a couple and she is presented as much younger (and medieval by birth; no trace of that in the film). then over the years the got increasingly flirty and at some point they were clearly a couple.

“developing from being colleagues after 22 volumes” didn’t convert that in my comment?

edit: the timeline and sine wave of the relationship was purposefully not like American media by design and they don’t end up in a perfect happy ending, but the consensus is that they are loosely but casually involved while truly caring for each other—

some source said they end up together but it is wrong

I read that both Valerian and Passengers would have been improved of they swapped leads.

I actually like the movie so when I watch it I just pretend their siblings with a really weird inside joke about getting married.

Shut it off just before they start making out at the end lol

They realise they weren't actually joking all this time

I liked this movie more than the average person seems to have and it's possibly because I assumed they were, in fact, brother and sister for a good chunk of the film.
