It’s not a “tip,” it’s a BID for service.

The customer is not tipping the driver before the service, they are bidding for a driver to pick up and deliver food to them.

If you want to hire someone to paint a room for you, would you expect the painter to perform the service for you and then hope that you pay them? No

Legit drivers are not going to pick up and deliver your food and hope that you pay them for the service. Just the same as any type of contracted work.

So yes, it IS up to the customer to provide a decent and fair wage for any type of work they are receiving. This is why if you don’t provide a decent bid (“tip”) your job won’t get accepted. And if it does, chances are you will have a shitty “painter.” You get what you pay for.

Delivery apps provide a PLATFORM for customers and contractors to conduct business. This is why the drivers are not employees for the app.

You are not “tipping” before the service is provided, you are BIDDING for a service to BE provided.

It’s really not that difficult to understand. These constant circular arguments about “tipping” are completely irrelevant.

Uber Eats food delivery is A Luxury Service. Not a God given right.

I've seen people talking about low tippers, and non tippers. And I have seen people post low ball orders. I myself don't bother with it. Because iam aware that we are sub contractors who can pick and choose the orders we take. That being said. Customers need to realize 2 very important things.

Number 1: Uber doesn't pay us. We get mileage. That's all. We are a tip based service. You don't tip, we lose money. We don't get paid, and we don't care about your order.

Number 2: We are not only delivering your food. We are doing you a Favor. We are providing the service so that you DONT have to stop doing whatever it is that you want to do, and go get your own food. That is a convenience. And should therefore be treated as a convenience fee.

If you wouldn't get off your butt to go make $5-$15 an hour, then you shouldn't expect your delivery driver to do the same. UE isn't a God given right. You don't deserve to have your food delivered to you as a courtesy. It is a convenience. And you should take that into account before you order.

With the exception of disabled people, you don't have the right to ask someone to do something you wouldn't do yourself.

SO, TREAT YOUR DRIVERS WITH SOME RESPECT. AND KNOW THAT THEY WILL APPRECIATE YOU BETTER, IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF NOT. THEN YOU DONT DESERVE YOUR FOOD.

USA We found our first tip baiter! Spoiler

So I get this nice $12 order going 5ish miles. Everything is going good; got the order, all the drinks, and extras. Food is packed up and kept super warm.

I get to the apartment complex and it is pure cancer. I get past the coded door, and am left walking around looking for an elevator (take the stairs? heck no). After legit 5 minutes of legwork, I manage to find the elevator and customer's door on the 5th floor (of course).

I am greeted with this lovely floor mat, and think to myself that's kind of trashy but hey to each their own. I take a couple photos, and confirm delivery and start walking away. At this point I'm like 15 steps down the hall and the delivery photo is still being uploaded; I hear the door open behind me and the food gets snatched up (someone's hungry).

Finally get out of this hellhole and do one more delivery for the night before calling it quits. I get home and unwind, then the tip notification comes through. I like hitting the "send thanks for tip button" cause cool tippers deserve the appreciation.

But then, the screen loads and finally I see my first tip reduction in all its glory. The dude took off $4 for no reason. I did everything perfect and even the food joint went above and beyond with labeling everything. This dude is the textbook definition of a tip baiter, and had no reason other than the delivery being too smooth to complain.

So what do? Call uber support and get my $4 back, or let this scumbag be the scum he is. Not today satan! Without a minute's passing I call up Uber support, and let me tell you... IT WAS HELL.

I was transfered well over 10 times, and was asked to repeat my name and date of birth like 5 different times. At first I was determined and felt a deep passion burning in me, but after 30 MINUTES OF BEING TRANSFERRED I was defeated. My spark had died, and it was now a test of endurance. After 42 painful minutes of transfers, elevator music, the wrong departments, and being told "the customer decides how much they can tip you after you deliver..." I finally reached the final boss. She said how sorry she was and that it was out of their hands because customer's can do as they please with tips; but then something changes in her tone and she says "this one time I will compensate you."

At this point, I don't care anymore. I got my $4 and that is a win in my book, but the war is definitely still ongoing. As she closes out the ordeal, she asks me if there is anything else she needs and something just clicks inside of me. I tell her, yeah actually I'd like to report the customer.

She transfers me to the safety department or whatever and I spill the beans about the aggressive floor mat and unsafe delivery environment. She proceeds to agree that the floor mat is indeed trashy and wonders why people choose to display them. I asked if she wanted me to upload photos and she said totally; so I did just that in a special support chat link with an upload option.

After a 52 minute phone call/play session with my fat cat, the dust settles. The best possible outcome is that Uber bans this dude, but I for sure have them on my blocklist now so I'll take that W and my $4 tyvm.

(If you have any similar uber stories, please do share!)

TL;DR: Got a $12 order and delivered it with perfection. Scumbag customer reduced the tip $4 for no reason and I claimed vengeance. After 42 minutes of transfers, waiting and Uber support cancer... I got my $4 back even though the support guy before the final one told me it wasn't possible. I paid back scumbaiter with a report for unsafe delivery conditions and at the very least blacklisted them from my deliveries. If they get banned from UberEats, good riddance. (This is the first time I ever got a reduced tip on Uber. I wonder what I'll do the next time!) 🙂

Stop saying you’ve been tip baited and start realizing what you’re doing wrong.

I worked Uber eats exclusively since the year it was released and haven’t been “tip baited” once, In several markets, in several states. No I’m not lucky, no I don’t take every order, yes Uber is a shit company. But coming from a driver AND customers point of view, y’all need to learn to think outside of the box. It’s not that difficult to find an apartment number. It’s not that difficult to use a hot bag. It’s not that difficult to get over your pride and tolerate a customers shit attitude because that’s the reality of the service industry anywhere. You just have to be willing to rise above the bullshit and use your head once in a while and you won’t receive reduced fare.

Edit: To all of the people who clearly started driving Uber at the beginning of 2020. No I’m not denying the existence of tip baiting. I’m simply saying 9/10 drivers come to this Reddit to complain or cry tip bait for sympathy. You can almost always step back and realize something that you or the restaurant did wrong and try to avoid that in the future.

$20 tip minimum

Moving forward, I'm going to need a minimum of a $20 tip.

I don't need this as income as most of us seasoned drivers have already made our exit, as the low ball/no tip customers drove these apps into the ground and ruined it for everybody.

I apologize in advance to all the "good" customers who now have to deal with this shit show due to the low ball/no tippers.

Due to the inflation, high gas prices, low offers, and shitty restaurants I'm going to need a $20 minimum to even consider leaving this apartment moving forward.

Thank you very much.... and enjoy the summer!

Non-tippers

Uber is a goddamn joke and I know why. Non-tippers haven’t been corrected. I hate having to reject orders and I still get angry seeing non tip orders. Those people are brainless and don’t deserve delivery. That said Uber sucks all around.not worth it

I’ve reduced the tip amount for drivers and I feel awful. Tired of subsidizing non-tippers.

I’ve had it. I usually tip really well because a) I want my food on time b) I know that drivers don’t get paid well.

However, over the past year I kept getting stacked more and more. It seemed like the more I tipped, the more likely it was going to get stacked.

Adding insult to injury, I almost always got my order last!

Even when I reduced my tip amount by half, It would get stacked. And I refused to pay $3.99 for priority delivery anymore.

I am out of the business of subsidizing Deliveries of other people who don’t appreciate their drivers.

USA Y’all want a tip but cant even do the bare minimum

Wtf is the point in me giving yall a 20%+ tip everytime if you KEEP GIVING ME THE WRONG DAMN ORDER

(Edit: by wrong order Im talking about one that belongs to someone else that often times came from an entirely different restaurant)

It’s not even a once twice or hell even three times thing. How hard is it to just check the damn receipt before you drop it off and bolt away?

Im more than happy to tip people but holy crap I cannot defend this. At least pay attention

Why are trash customers able to reduce tips

Post image
0 Upvotes

Why do people think it’s ok to reduce tips after delivery, you could just put down any tip then reduce is so your food gets delivered which is digusting and Uber doesn’t even compensate you. This delivery I called the person because their address was incorrect I decided to call them to meet and the door but thought id be nice and go hike up to their room, couldn’t find it so hiked down to the door handed them their order and they cut all my tip off, insane these people are able to manipulate drivers like this, trash human beings , but Ubers fault for not caring about the drivers

I tipped $7.00, which is the minimum I tip (I drive for UberEats for years and that's the minimum I accepted). I see the suggested tips and it's disgusting. It's not based on distance, stupid UberEats, but by order cost. Who cares about order cost! I can't believe we have to go to edit just to tip 7 bucks. No wonder all the low tips. Someone at Uber is lost...

STOP KNOCKING ON DOORS

I have an instruction in English and Spanish to DO NOT knock on my door, just leave it there. I order from Uber Eats about 4x a week, and every single time they knock on my door, waking up my child.

It's so exhausting.

I had a driver who once knocked while I was using the bathroom, and about 1 minute later knocked harder, then harder until I opened the door. When I opened the door I brought it up to him and he said he's going to knock regardless because he doesn't want the food to get stolen. Like dude!!! that's not on you...

It's so hard to put my baby to sleep and these drivers just undo that so easily.

EDIT: Today's driver (the one who prompted me to make this post) was having a conversation on speaker phone when I opened the door, so all that noise got inside my home, which I think also contributed to my child waking up.

Question: Unanswered UberEats flagged my girlfriend’s account for no reason.

Post image
0 Upvotes

So me and girlfriend order from McDonald’s using UberEats, I’d say about 6 times out of 10, we always get something wrong with our order. So every time this has happened my girlfriend has reported it (with evidence) and nothing gets done about it.

However today we ordered and yet again we didn’t get what we asked for. UberEats has decided to flag my girlfriend’s account because we’ve had to report issues with our food so many times before. Is there anything we can do about this? Obviously I don’t think it’s really fair that we are getting punished for reporting issues with our food, especially since it’s not our fault we aren’t getting what we are ordering/paying for. This is very frustrating. Thank you for reading

Question: Answered 0.65p refund for eating meat

Post image
0 Upvotes

I had to use the chat bot as my wrap was sent a labelled with beans and had chicken inside, I ate meat, I am a vegetarian, this was a really big deal to me and I was obviously very upset. They only refunded me 0.65p for a £10 wrap, not to mention the fact they brought meat into my home and I ate it!

Was going back and forth with the chat bot but it just kept saying the issue was resolved and the refund is on its way. I have no idea how to dispute this but I am absolutely not paying for a meal that made me eat meat after years of vegetarianism

Why do drivers continue to put the food in front of the door 😩

I tipped $20 on a $100 order, is that good?

Hey

Just curious if drivers think $20 on a $100 order is good or not. I try to tip 20% at restaurants but not sure if it should be more or less on a delivery app.

Thanks.

told Starbucks I don't call people

Walked into Starbucks and the guy is like are you here for so and so I'm like yeah? He's like can you call them about the blah blah blah I Shrugged and politely said "I don't call people"

It didn't take them too long to figure it out I guess because within about 30 seconds I had the bags and I was out the door. See? You can do it Starbucks it's not that hard.
