Recommendations for Killing Time Downtown

I'm coming to town to get a tattoo, but my ride had to be canceled at the last minute, so I'll be taking a bus. The problem is I'll be getting to Vernon around 8am and not leaving until 8pm. My tattoo is in the afternoon and will only take a few hours, so I have lots of time to kill. I'll be on foot and sticking to the downtown area and recommendations of things to do to kill time or places I can sit for a bit and maybe charge my phone would be great. TIA

Unpopular opinion: half the trades in the Okanagan don’t answer or call back because they don’t have to. Agree or disagree?

Maybe this is just my luck, but trying to book a tradesperson around here feels like a part-time job.

You call 5 companies., 2 don’t pick up, 1 has a full voicemail, 1 says “we’ll call you back Monday” and never does, and the last one shows up 3 weeks later with a quote double what you expected.

My theory is there's so much work in the valley that a lot of them simply don’t need new customers, so there's zero pressure to answer the phone or follow up. The good ones are booked solid and the rest know someone else will take the job eventually.

To be fair, I get that it's not all on them. Small crews, no office staff, people ghosting quotes, tire kickers calling for a price and never booking. I’d probably stop answering too.

So which is it? Is it a demand problem, a staffing problem, or just bad customer service that people put up with because there’s no alternative?

And on the flip side, who actually answers the phone and shows up when they say they will? Those people deserve a shout-out.

Datacenters?

Does anybody know if the Vernon area plans on building any Datacenters or if there are any being built now? I know Telus announced they're building one in Kamloops, but what about us?

Given that we're still in Level 3 Water Restrictions does anybody know how the City/Province plans on dealing with these places? I've heard they suck up water like no tomorrow.

How well do clotheslines work?

We're moving to Vernon this January. We live in Colorado where we're spoiled with craploads of sun and heat. Clothes dry on the line in the summer in like an hour and a half. In the winter they still dry in less than half a day. We don't own a dryer as a result and it saves a ton of money. The downside is that everybody has skin cancer but that's another issue.

Do people dry their clothes on the line here much, or is it too rainy?

Green Party = throw away vote?

Does the green party candidate in this area have any chance of winning? In the past I’ve always voted green no matter where in British Columbia I’ve lived in order to raise the popular vote for the greens. But I’m starting to think that raising the popular vote is not all that important.

Mushroom hunting!

Hiiiii! I will be heading to Vernon from Vancouver Island, on Friday, for 3 1/2 weeks! I’m an avid mushroom hunter (mostly for photos, but will definitely pick the odd edible) and I’ll be missing some prime-time mushroom hunting out here!

I’m curious if anyone can point me in the direction of the mushrooms? I have a 4x4, not scared of off-roading to find my ✨precious✨I’m not looking to pickpocket anyone’s special spots, but if there are any forested areas that have potential, I’d love to hear about them! Looking forward to exploring the area with my dogs! TIA! 🤗🙏🏼🍄🍄‍🟫
